Mail vs Leather with Hunter confusion
Return to board index
Hi! I'm not a super expert on WoW so here goes:
I have a belt for example that has all better stats than the one I currently is using (i.e. everything is + if I change) and the one I'm using is mail and the one I change to is leather and when I change, the stats actually goes lower and I wonder why is that? It's very confusing.
Sandstone Pauldrons (item lvl 49) Mail.
Wild Shoulderpads (item lvl 93) Leather.
so when I attach Wild Shoulderpads I go from:
354 - 342 in agility
414 - 436 in stamina (only improvement)
1095 - 1065 atk power (range)
66.22 - 64.74 DPS
and a little less dodge
why is that? My Zygor guide also wants to change to first one so I must be missing something about Mail having more effect from its stats than leather even though it says +10 compared to +14 in agility for example.
Thank you and I did search, couldn't really find an answer to this.
You get a +5% bonus to your primary attribute in this case Agility which affects other attributes. Because of Mail Specialization.
*When wearing mail in all slots, Equipping leather breaks that*
Once you hit lvl 50, you get an ability that gives you 5% to your primary ability if you are wearing the proper gear type ( in your case, mail) in every possible slot.
It was done a few years ago to prevent hunters like yourself from rolling need on leather gear and mail gear. ( and to prevent shaman and druids from rolling on caster cloth gear).
Despite what many will tell you, there is almost a 99.9% chance that any single item you win that is not the proper gear type will be worse for you... in other words 5% to your main stat is HUGE.
Thank you guys so much! I totally missed that when I turned lvl 50, so you're saying I should stick to mail as much as possible? But I only get those 5% if ALL of my gear is mail? it seems like it's affecting me anyway...
Thanks anyhow :)
What they said. 5% buff is a big deal. (And it only gets bigger as you level. When you hit 10K+ of a main stat, adding 5% of that is a lot.)
This is the
all of these kind folks are referring to, marcusgrip, and as you can see by the description you gain the 5% bonus while wearing -only- mail armor; any cloth or leather in any slot will cause you to lose this benefit.
Just adding (in case it's not obvious) that
only applies to gear in slots which has an armour type - that is, your cloak, shirt, tabard, weapon, trinkets, necklace and rings won’t count as they have no armour type. For everything else, only wear mail.
