Can you please require a reputation of at least 2,000 before downvoting is allowed? Or require whoever is downvoting to provide a reason. I'm sure if they actually had to put some thought and effort into it there wouldn't be so many pointless downvotes.
I'm tired of seeing posts that I have upvoted because they are helpful, downvoted within a day.

This does come up fairly often and it's something we're sympathetic to. However, we have systems in place that allow us to see when users rate things faster than they could read them thoroughly and when users target groups of comments by other specific users.
If someone is fully reading a comment and making a judgement on it then it is not for us to say that their decision was right or wrong. We just require that they're not abusing the rating system.
I also want to quell your fear that it's out of control. We ensure that there are no major abuses going on and monitor things carefully.(##RESPBREAK##)16##DELIM##asakawa##DELIM##

also people might have different opions what is usefull then you, and vote different cause of that.
This. Also keep in mind that information posted in comments can be varyingly relevant because of when it was posted, even if it's the exact same type of information posted at different times. Stuff like drop rates and co-ordinates might be interesting just after a patch or similar but once Wowhead's data has caught up to anything new or to changes made they really don't add anything to the page.
It can also depend largely on how the comment is written. A comment on how to solo something as a particular class or spec might only be relevant to a small amount of people coming to the page in question but if it's well written it has a far better chance of being upvoted than a hastily written comment full of spelling errors and bad formatting containing essentially the same information. Goes for any comment, really.

@Czeano, In my day-to-day on the site I definitely see that most users fall into one of two groups. Upvoters and Downvoters. Some people want to promote and reward good content but rarely downvote stuff while others will upvote a few specific, high quality comments while mostly downvoting lower quality contributions. Both of these approaches are valuable to the site.
Removing rep loss for downvoting has been a positive change for us and has made dealing with vote abuse much more manageable. Some of the sorts of comment you mention should probably be reported ("profanity-laden") or forwarded for removal by clicking "Out of Date". However, if a "funny" comment has got a lot of upvotes then that is users giving their opinion that they want to see that comment. I agree that downvotes are every bit as valuable as upvotes and from my point of view, the more votes being placed, in either direction, the better for all of us.
