Correct Targetting - HELP!
Return to board index
As a fairly inexperienced hunter, I do know that in Dungeons I should:
Wait till the tank has pulled plenty of aggro and AoE spells are working, before I attack.
Unless told otherwise, switch off Growl/Taunt on my pet, to avoid pulling aggro from the Tank.
Target the Tank's target(s) unless told otherwise.
Don't target side enemies, it messes up crowd control.
Clicking on the Tank's portrait and pressing F often doesn't work or doesn't last.
From a distance, I often can't tell which targets in the crowd the Tank has pulled.
So all I can do is Tab from one target to the next, hoping I'm attacking the right ones.
Which is not always the case and causes problems for the group.
What have I missed, please?
Just attack whatever you think should be killed first, usually tank attacks the same thing.
You dont need to wait for anything. As a hunter you got an ability called
For easy orientation around targets (what is tanked, whats attacking you and whats cced) you may want to use tidy plates/threat plates addon (and nameplates on).
*) here is my all in one focus/md macro:
Rclick will turn off growl on your current pet and put your current target on focus.
Lclick (or keybind press) will attempt to misdirect the focus target.
With a focus you can make an assist macro:
Or any skill you usually start with like
/use serpent sting
The problem with these is that tank will often switch targets in order to gain aggro on all of them, if there is a mob that should definately die first it should be marked with skull (raid marks). You can either keybind those (prefered) in keybinding menu (i got mine set at f5-f12) or rclick the mob and chose marks. Ideally its a tank's task to do so.
Should you pull aggro anyway you got another excelent ability
PS: You should avoid using tab as ranged dps (hunter especially) as it tends to target everything around you not necesarily closest thing and you may find yourself pulling some more stuff due to nature of autoshot/cobra shot.
