Sub PvP guide for 5.2: seeking input
Return to board index
A little background: I've been playing WoW since mid-2005 and I've been exclusively a PvPer since. I started my first rogue in mid-BC, and while I switched to feral for most of Cata and MOP, I'm going to be picking the rogue back up. I haven't been doing much serious PvP since I started college, but my background in PvP and years of being a rogue should be enough to give the community a solid introductory guide to Sub PvP.
I'm making a guide mostly because I've got a few friends that also play rogues -- one of them is new to WoW, another new to PvPing altogether, and none of them are familiar with the current state of rogues. I'm always getting asked questions about rogue PvP matters and I haven't found a good Sub PvP guide updated for MoP to refer them to -- so I'm writing my own.
As I said, I haven't been much into serious PvP lately, so my knowledge of a lot of
classes with relation to MoP is stale. Therefore, I'll be leaving class-specific tactics and comp recommendations empty until I can accrue some solid feedback from the community. That's why I'm making this thread.
I'm mostly going to cover things like professions, races, talents/glyphs, stat priorities and gemming/reforging/enchanting, macros, and general feedback in particular abilities and situational rotations. If you have unusual or uncommon feedback related to these areas, feel free to post it. Otherwise, I've got the
amply covered. What I'm mostly looking for is tactics when dealing with particular classes or situations, and feedback about arena comps -- in the current season and the 5.2 season to come.
Thanks in advance for any feedback.
As a Combat Rogue I don't almost anything which would help you.
But if you want Max out of Sub I would say either Orc or Human. Orc couse of its racials, damage cd and shorter stun duration and Human couse of its free trinket.
For profession I would say Alchemy/Bs. BS gives you extra socket where you can put PvP Power gem. Alchemy couse of their potions.
For gems you should use PvP Power gems and Resi gems. Sometimes you may ignore socket bonus.
Also when you are getting geared you should always get weapons before armor couse of the PvP Power.
When you fight against Warrior use your Stun off trinket and CoS and Vanish when Warrior uses all cds. Then you just wait till cds wear off and go nuke him.
Against Paladin dont use your cds until it has bubbled. Wait till bubble wears off and nuke it.
Use always Wound Poison. Always! You may only use Deadly Poison against Hunter.
I dont know anything about Sub reforging but you must have Weapon Chain in other hand at least.
Clad if I could help.
Rogues were all over PvP in Cata. Now, with the laughably sad state of affairs that Rogues find themselves in with MoP - gimped DPS, pitifully few burst abilities, either-or choices of core Rogue abilities, painfully long CDs - only the truly committed are still playing their Rogues.
Strangely, Blizzard's Rogue forums don't even have a PvP guide for MoP, which speaks volumes of just how weak we are compared with other classes.
Hopefully, your guide will provide some useful information. Even a basic go-to guide for a fresh 90 Rogue would be helpful - gems (Agility vs PvP Power vs PvP Resil), chants, first source of weapons (Arena of Annihilation, Klaxxi rep), assessment of PvP glyphs, assessment of Talents, recommendations for poisons, and suggestions for openers and rotations with explanations.
When in doubt, check arena junkies. Needs an update to combat stats to include calculations for weapon dps for mh/oh, new combat stats ratings for when in next season's gear, and PvE vs. PvP gear section.
I didn't know the guide had been updated.
I probably still will make a guide for Wowhead. But thanks for the link. I'll definitely provide a link to that in the "further reading material" section.
