What to do with old GPUs?
Return to board index
Me being frugal, I bought a 6570. Garbage gfx card, but I didn't really play games back then. I recently found out you can't even crossfire these so they're basically useless if you have more than one. I have another for an unrelated reason.
I'd like to upgrade to a 7850 or 79 something, any suggestions? And what can I use my old one for? I'd mine bitcoins if it was worth it.
Really regret skimping out on a graphics card.
There isn't much you can do with them. I guess you could save it, in case you ever build a pc for the living room and you need a low profile graphics card.
I live in Alberta, Canada, and here we have EcoStations, which accept just about anything that isn't garbage or a deposit-bearing drink container. Well, they'll take those too, but won't pay you the deposit. That's what bottle depots are for in this province.
Anyway, EcoStations take any electronic device or part thereof, break them down, and reuse the components. Perhaps there are similar places where you live that accept TVs, computer parts, VCRs, etc, etc.
Try to sell it and add those funds to putting towards a new card lol.
Overclock it until it blows up - hey, it's worthless anyway, at least you'll get some fun out of it!
On a more serious note, it never hurts to have a spare GPU lying around, especially if your current one dies and your motherboard has no onboard VGA.
