Aftermath-Witchhunt (Part Two)
Return to board index
Zezi continued to run. She had long ago left behind the terrible place where she was born. She was glad for that but she wasn't far safe yet she felt as she kept on going. A few days ago she had begun to feel great pain in her upper chest as the rag cloth scratched against her developing body and had caused bleeding. She ignored it, deciding to take care of the pain and bleeding once she felt safe. More recently though she had begun to see things, every tree was one of the large machines the goblins used to cut would, coming to get her, and every bush was her goblin master waiting for her. She picked up her pace now afraid that the bushes might catch her.
“Dis be a bad ‘erb to mess wid, oh ye-es,” – mused Ga’crane, carefully gathering a thorned greenish-yellow root. The young troll managed not to make any local sharpjaws angry, and they now were all but ignoring him –“Wonder, how come dem droods not notice dat one… Peace making dem lazy, me thinks.” The calm lap of the oasis waters and only the occasional grunt of a turtle made it more than clear that he was quite alone. However, a lack of sentient being was not an obstacle for conversation, since Ga’Crane firmly believed it was always good to chit-chat with a smart-ass, whom he considered himself to be. He was of a typical darkspear blue, with bristly orange hair which he took good care of. As a potion doc, he had earned a certain respect within the horde, even though his build made it ever so obvious that he was no real fighter. But his quick wit and skill at brew made him a dangerous opponent yet.
However a dangerous opponent he was made no difference when he was suddenly blindsided by a troll girl with sky-blue skin and green hair in no later than her pre-teens in nothing more than rags. The potion doc spewed a few curses in the old Zandalari tongue he was so fond of and scrambled for a flask before he realized just who his assailant was. Zezi, while bleeding still, was trying to scramble away. Her efforts however amounted to a meager whimpering of “Please don’t take me back…I don’ wanna be a slave no more.” She had faltered even as she had tried to make her escape. Ga’Crane stared blankly for a moment, and then sprang into action. His regular habit of talking to himself while he worked once again engaged, “Jus’ hold still now.” He reached into his bag and fetched out a vial with thick red liquid in it, “Dis will keep you nice an’ warm, and restore dat blood.”
“Erm… What are you doing?”
Ga’Crane looked over his shoulder sharply to spot of all people Gurka and Nightbane. It seemed like his day to be snuck up on. The worg took one look at the mess and started to patrol the area. Ga’Crane shook his head, “Who in- Ah, just you mind helpin’ me here?” Even more conveniently, Zezi was already waking again.
Gurka shrugged and trotted over to the troll, determining to do whatever she could, even if she was still in the dark. “Whatcha need me to do?” she asked, kneeling down next to the two trolls.
"Jus' comfort da girl dere, so dat she won't spill every'fin' over 'self. Come on now, its moonberry flavored, and make no mistake dere, it gave me a hard time to make it taste like dat," - said Ga'Crane. He tried to speak quickly, yet clearly, and to sound very, very confident, like a troll who knows what he is doing exactly - and to him, he was actually doing a good job.
Zezi stirred and her eyes fluttered open, “Where am I?”
"Hey, it's okay," Gurka smiled, holding the girl's hand. "My name's Gurka, and you're safe. Your all the way out in the barrens. We won't let anything hurt you. We're just trying to help you get better."
"Yeah, dat young orc be both smart and good-looking, joo'd bettah listen to 'er, methinks." - grinned Ga, placing the vial in Zezi's hand.
She looked at it for a moment then she closed her eye's tipped her head back and quickly emptied the vial into her mouth. She then came up with a small gasp as she took in air after she swallowed it. "It tastes okay." She said having expected it to taste more like the awful stuff her mother use to give her whenever she would get sick, she remembered her father hating when she got that stuff at all, seeing it only as a waste of what little money they had.
"Why, da famoos potion doc's concoctions always taste good, except when dey taste really awful... Oh, wait, Ah haven't properly introdoosed meself - joo be speaking to Ga'Crane of Darkspear, young lady. Now tell da doctah, how joo be feeling right now?"
She gave a bit of a giggle. "A bit bedda," She said smiling at him, "Though I do be feelin some pain on me chest still." She blushed when she said it embarrassed that she even admitted to it.
The embarrassment was so obvious that Ga'Crane thanked the Loa he had a willing female assistant.
"Some pain, joo say? Oh, dat means da doctah turns around while his pretty assistant examines joo - and once she's done, trust me, Ah'll deal wid it." - said Ga, slowly standing bolt upright and turning around. She was relieved when he turned around. She then slowly and carefully removed her blood-stained raggedy top and for the first time saw the damage it had done to her over the last few days of constant running, and how it had rubbed it to the point of bleeding. There was caked on blood from the last few days still on it as she looked though she cringed as she first looked at it.
Gurka chuckled quietly at the troll's comment, before watching the smaller troll down the potion. "That's a good girl," she smiled. "Everything's going to be okay."
She waited as the small girl explained her problem and removed her bloody shirt.
"Hmm..." Gurka frowned, looking at the caked on blood surrounding a number of cuts worn into the girl's skin from days of tight, cheap fabric rubbing against it. "You sure are a brave girl, to be able to keep running even when it hurt," Gurka smiled, trying to make the small troll feel better. "Here..." she paused, digging into her backpack and pulling out a pair of her own clothes.”You can wear this while I talk to the doctor," she smiled.
She took the shirt in her hands and felt it; it was soft, much softer than anything she had ever worn before. She slowly slipped it on over her tiny frame. "Thank you." She said meekly to the female orc.
Gurka, after turning back over to the potionmaster said, "Just a few minor lacerations and a small infection," she reported. “I can heal the cuts and infection fairly easily, though we might want to give her a potion for the pain."
"Ah'd be a disgrace to mah kind if Ah hadn't got on meself any potion joo might need. Dere,"
Ga took out a small vial with gleaming golden liquid and a larger one with what looked like a green gel.
"Da shinin' one be da numbin', da green one be anti-septic, in case da girl needs bandaging. Tho Ah'd rather joo did da healin' itself, me mahself being more into the potions, joo know. Da girl ain't need know dis, tho." - grinned Ga'Crane.
Gurka chuckled, taking the potions and turning back toward the girl.
"Here," she smiled, handing the vials to the little troll. "You can rub these in the cuts, and then I can get to healing them," she nodded. "I forgot to tell you, but I'm a shaman," she chuckled. "I can heal people and talk to animals and stuff..." she grinned.
She took the vials from the female orc first and looked at her in awe for a moment before snapping back to reality after a moment. "Thank you," She said meekly taking the sash and looking at it a moment before running it through her hands a bit feeling it. "Muh name be Zezi'ma." She said meekly as she lifted her new shirt and let it drape around her neck while she applied the two vials, she applied the disinfectant first, it stung for a moment but it wasn't too bad, then she put the other one on and felt the pain from it dull. "Dat feel's so much bedda." She said pulling the shirt back on before removing her piece of rag that served to cover her nether regions. She then proceeded to put on the pants the Gurka had given her.
"Zezi'ma... That's a pretty name," Gurka smiled, holding her hands a few inches over the girl's body and beginning to heal her. While the orc was young, she had had a talent for shamanism since she was very small, and was already an accomplished healer in her neighborhood.
"Thank you." She said. "Me mother said it meant someting important to our tribe, though I never rememba it cause muh tribe really hasn't existed in a really long time."
"Joo be dressed up now? Can da doctah turn around to see how pretty joo got, yes/no?" - asked Ga'Crane, smiling.
"Yah. You can turn around if ya like." She said giggling a bit.
"Dat be a good job well done, friends, hoo-ray!" - said Ga, mentally comparing Zezi before and after. - "Which leads me, tho, to a question - Zezi, can joo tell us how did joo come to da state joo were when we met joo?"
She looked away for a moment as she thought. "Ah was born a slave...da masta whipped me a lot," she pulled up her sleeve and showed one scar that was obviously from a whip that had begun to heal over really nicely. "Ah ran away cause I found out he was gon’ sell me to someone ta be a baby maka." she stopped there not really wanting to continue on with that thought. "So I been runnin’ for at lest a few days and ah been running trou bushes, and tree's and udder tings to try and get away."
Ga put a hand on Zezi's shoulder.
"Everfin's gonna be alright, trust me. No one's gonna whip joo evah again." He hoped that his thoughts could not be read from his face.
She looked up for a moment and straight into his face. She could see he was thinking about something that wasn't making him happy. She hoped it wasn't her that was somehow making him unhappy. "I hope ya right...I dun wanna be whiped no mo. Deh master will prolly find me dough and he will do anytin to get his property back, das da way all dem goblins are." she said turning back down to look at da ground.
"Hey, cheer up, Zezi. If dat goblin wants to find joo, dat means he's gonna find us and we'll make sure he's gonna regret dat. It'll probably take quite a lotta time for him to find us from wherever that jerk is, tho. And Zezi, joo ain't nobody's property, joo be a free troll."
She continued to look at the ground for a moment in thought. "Ah am free....ain't I?" she asked herself meekly. She continued to think about it for a while. "Yeah ah am free." She said her head coming up and a smile spreading across her face.
"Ah fink dat a troll is always best wid da trolls." - Said Ga, comfortingly - "Whaddaya think, Zuri? Zezi, is dere anywhere joo wanna go joorself?"
She wiped the tears that had started away. "I don't know anywhere else udder den me 'ome." She said giving a small sniffle. "Ah don't even know where ah am now."
"If it helps, Ah got a nice lil' piece o'accomodation in Orgrimmar, a luvverly place overlooking a pond." - said Ga'Crane, trying to do anything he could to help - actually, with him being quite a successful potion doc he owned two more houses, in Zul'Farrak and Zul'Gurub, so it was easier for him to make such an offer than one might think.
"Ah don’ wanna go ta orgrimar....dat's near were da masta lives...An’ I don wanna go anywhere near der again." She said scooting back and hiding behind Gurka’s leg.
Gurka smiled reassuringly and put a hand on Zezi’s shoulder, “Its okay. I promise I won’t let him find you again.” She looked over at Ga’Crane, “What about Ashenvale, or Shatterspear? We were headed that way anyways.”
Ga’Crane grinned, “Now that’s a good idea.”
"Yeah....as long as it's not to near Az....Azs...Azsharitus...." Zezi said, struggling to pronounce the name of where she had been a slave. "Near the Az place." She said giving up on trying to remember the difficult pronunciation.
"Forget about da A-place, dere be so much more beautiful places in our world." - smiled Ga.
"Yeah....I heard from mudda dat dere be ton's of places to see in da world. I really wanna see dem all!" She said thinking about some of the places her mother had described to her.
"Dem all, eh? Den it's all da same if we start wid Ashenvale, he-he." Ga’Crane offered her a goofy grin.
"Yeah....starten dere doesn't sound to bad." She said smiling up at Ga.
"Ashenvale's good," Gurka chimed in. "And once Zezi is safe, then we can just head east and go after that slaver," she smiled, hoping that this might be some good experience once she did end up going after that warlock later.
Ga gulped from yet another vial, clutched his teeth and effortlessly lifted Zezi, placing her on his shoulder.
"Joo wanna go for a ride? Ah'm sure joo do." - He smiled.
Zezi giggled as she was picked up and placed on Ga's shoulders the group then began to walk. "So what's this place like we're going to?" She asked curiously.
Nightbane strafed past through the bushes as they started to move, watching the trolls suspiciously. Nonetheless, she spoke, “Ashenvale. It’s a forest, a place with enough trees to block out the heat of the sun.”
"Yep," Gurka smiled. "I've only been there myself once, but it's pretty amazing."
Zezi blinked and then latched onto Ga’Crane’s head, “Ah, a wulf!”
Ga’Crane pat Zezi, and managed to keep himself jumping out of fright, or confusion when it talked, “Relax gel, et’s Gurka’s…Talking worg…”
Gurka looked back, “Oh. That’s Nightbane, we’ve been travelling together.”
Zezi shivered and hid her face in Ga’Crane’s mane, “Don’ let it take me back to da masta’.”
Ga’Crane gave her a reassuring pat, “Ain’t gonna let it happen. Promise.”
Gurka looked up as the sun was starting to set, “We should probably call it a night.
"I will keep vigil then." Nightbane grunted without a pause.
"That's cool," Gurka smiled, walking back over to the group and unrolling her bedroll. "See you in the morning."
'Luck is weirder than life - where have we been several years ago when the girl needed help a lot more than now? Anyway, I've got a good feeling about this. And maybe five years later I'll present Zez a shrunken head of the slave-handler, oh yes.'
Ga'Crane thought to himself, "Yep, see joo." He gave his bedroll to Zezi and was now lying comfortably on a blanket, his hands folded behind his head, looking at the sky.
Gurka rolled over and covered up with her blanket. The ground was hard, but not uncomfortable. It was the spirit of earth beneath her, after all.
Zezi took the bedroll Ga gave her and laid it down next to him. "Thank you." She whispered as she laid down and made herself snug and warm inside it and quickly fell asleep.
Nightbane looked up into the sky and at the moon. She calmed, and words started to fill into her mind. Softly, she began to sing a hymn for elune.
First major clipping and cutting. It's a bit odd to be messing with what is, but it will make more sense in the long run.
