I always thought a "Healing" pet would be interesting, a pet that stayed by your side and just buffed you and healed raid members in a 40 yard area. I envision the pet's heals scaled with the hunters AP or DPS and it Crit heals when the hunter Crits. You could send it to attack the boss, doing little damage but healing and buffing the tank and melee DPS. Raids would love that!
It could be a new fourth pet spec! What should that spec be named?...

Blizzard intentionally removed class-specific buffs so that raids can get a full set of buffs without having to set aside a raid spot specifically for one class. In light of that, I seriously doubt they would consider adding a new class-specific buff to the game.
A pet with a healing or survival-oriented ability would be nice; at present, only BM gets a pet with a heal. Equalizing survivability between specs is, I think, something that most people could agree with.

Get a spirit beast and throw a spirit mend on your tank whenever you see fit.
You can do it by:
/focus
the tank
and than
/use [] spirit mend
It will put a heal on tank if its on your focus (or whatever friendly is on it).
Otherwise it will use it on your current target.
