Hello everyone,
I am relatively new to the game and I am looking for the easiest way to get a dragon mount. At the moment I am a level 63 orc with just short of 1K gold. Does anyone know which dragon mount is the easiest for me to get?
Thanks
Nick

Also available at level 80 is the red drake for sale for 3000 gold. But not until you are exalted with Wyrmrest.
At your level OP there are no drakes that you can get.

OK guys. Looks like i'll get to level 80 before going after any dragon mounts. Thanks anyway.

Let's wrap up the suggestions so far with links to their Wowhead pages, you will find additional information in the data provided by Wowhead or in the comments:
Reins of the Bronze Drake
- Level 80 heroic dungeon
Netherwing Drakes
- Level 70 reputation grind (may be completed in less than a week with certain dedication, requires at lot of searching for
Netherwing Egg
s though)
Reins of the Red Drake
- Exalted reputation with
The Wyrmrest Accord
(progress possible at about Level 72, but will take a while)
Reins of the Time-Lost Proto-Drake
- Drop from a very rare enemy in
The Storm Peaks
, requires 77 since you need to be able to fly there, while the enemy is rather strong, so you may not be able to defeat it before Level 80, plus there will be a lot of competition from players. What I'm saying is, not something you should count on getting ;)
Reins of the Green Proto-Drake
- Can be contained at a very low chance in
Mysterious Egg
.
I'll elaborate on this mount below.
Reins of the Blue Proto-Drake
- From a boss in a Level 80 heroic dungeon, but with a very low drop chance. Probably best to only return at Level 85 or above, when you can solo this boss.
One rather easy dragon mount that wasn't mentioned yet is
Reins of the Albino Drake
, a reward for
Leading the Cavalry
- Obtain 50 mounts. A good amount of these 50 can be obtained by reaching Exalted reputation with the other Horde cities for the racial mounts. The best way to grind reputation is by wearing
champion tabards
in dungeons.
Note that you don't need to farm reputation with Orgrimmar, as your orc already has access to the wolf mounts - however, don't forget to get all of these, too, if you haven't purchased them yet ;)
The Huojin Pandaren offer a whopping
12 different mounts
, so that should be your first faction to champion.
The Blood Elves of Silvermoon offer
7 mounts
, while the
Tauren of Thunder Bluff
, the
Darkspear Trolls
and the
Undead Forsaken of the Undercity
have 6 mounts each, but the Goblins of the Bilgewater Cartel only offer
2 trikes
.
Also don't forget to get all of the
7 wind rider mounts
.
About
Reins of the Green Proto-Drake
: You can begin to work towards your reputation with
The Oracles
at Level 76. While the chance is low, the questline will grant you a good chunk of experience, and you might get lucky with the mount.
Once you are 76, acquire
The Part-time Hunter
in
Sholazar Basin
(there is a
quest sending you from Dalaran to Sholazar
) and kill the quest mob. This will trigger Frenzyheart Wolvar to appear and offer you the quest
Playing Along
- the Frenzyheart are an enemy faction to the Oracles, but you need to complete both the Frenzyheart and the Oracle questline before you can choose your allegiance (and reach a Revered reputation) during
A Hero's Burden
.
Once you have acquired the Proto-Drake, though, I suggest to switch to the Frenzyheart for their analogue of the egg, the
Disgusting Jar
, which can contain the
Frenzyheart Brew
, a fun transformation item.

The Feldrake mount can be used at level 20.
Yeah but it's a TCG item.

I don't know what class you are, but if you are tank and get max level you can get Reins of the Green Proto-Drake and Reins of the Blue Proto-Drake from the bag they give you sometime.
I'd say don't bother for now if it's a drake or not.

I would recommend doing the Tol Barad dailies for a cool Drake.
Reins of the Drake of the West Wind
is available at lvl 70 for 200 Tol Barad Commendations. The dailies are pretty quick to do and will only take about 30-40 minutes a day to get 12 commendations per day plus another three weekly. Six quests are available at the camp and take place around the island, another six are available over the bridge at the stronghold if your faction controls Tol Barad. If you are Alliance, this is pretty much permanently on my server.
Just keep plugging away and you'll have a really great looking Drake mount before you know it.

Actually, the dailies needed to earn the currency needed for this mount aren't available until you are level 85.

To add a little bit to what Nulgar said -
Keep in mind that most Northrend factions support reputation badges, available in Dalaran by the NPCs near your faction's robot AH. For example
Wyrmrest Commendation Badge
can dramatically increase your reputation with Wyrmrest, for only 16 justice points a pop.
Second, doing all the Oracle quests will get you about halfway to Revered - so around 3-4 days worth of Oracle dailies should be enough to get you to the necessary standing to get the egg. Especially if you are in a guild with the reputation boost award.

Please note that
Mysterious Egg
doesn't guarantee a
Reins of the Green Proto-Drake
. It has about a 5% drop chance. I got mine from my
Satchel of Exotic Mysteries
.
Being at lvl 60-70ish there are no dragon/drake mounts available at that level until the Netherwing dailies, which happens to be some of the longest, grueling, yet most rewarding daily quests out there.
