For the past couple of days now, I've noticed this issue in my item level:
Screenshot (http://www.jpaterson.net/wowilvl.jpg)
My character sheet shows that my item level is 480/481, and I don't know why.
Two things:
1) All my items, including everything in my bank, are repaired. Assuming damaged items count against your equipped item level (I don't know if it does), them being repaired should change that.
2) All items in my bank are either materials or novelty items; I have cloth, herbs, outfits from Brewfest, Noblegarden, flowers, picnic basket, etc. In addition, I've moved all of my non-unique novelty items to the void storage. There are no weapons nor armor anywhere in my characters bank or void storage, and no items of any use in the guild bank.
Is there a reason for this? Should my equipped item level not match my overall item level when I have nothing to swap it out for? It's been bugging me. I was going to wait until Tuesday evening to check this, in case Blizzard were to do maintenance tomorrow, but I'm confused. I've disabled all addons, checked; the same. I even did the time-tested Blizzard tip of "deleting your cache" folder, checked; same.
I'm not upset, and this is by no means a game breaking issue, but it's quite a curiosity to me.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Tabards have different item levels, not sure if they count towards your item level you have equipped.
Apart from that, no ideas.. sorry

This. Also, I remember there being a shirt that would bump your ilvl. Can't remember what it is off the top of my head, but it was a way people would fudge their Gearscore back in LK when that was the measure of how good you were.

Really? I never would've thought that shirts or tabards could affect your item level. That's kind of amusing, actually.
I'll remove both when I get home tonight and see what it says. What I'm wearing is the
Stylish Black Shirt
for my shirt and
Order of the Cloud Serpent Tabard
for my tabard, both of which have a level of one.
Weird.
Edit: But, considering I'm 480/481 for a one point difference, maybe it actually is the tabard.

If i'm right the left one is ilvl what you are wearing and the right one is what your ilvl that you are carying like if you have 360ilvl pvp item on and 376ilvl pve item on your bag it will take the 376ilvl one to your right one.
I'm not sure does it go like that but I guess so.

Guess neither of you read this part of his post...There are no weapons nor armor anywhere in my characters bank or void storage, and no items of any use in the guild bank.

His main chest slot item would overwrite the ilvl from the Spring Robes and the Brewfest Regalia. Shirts however have ilvls.

Example
All the shirts available in the game have an ilvl of 1.
EDIT: However, it looks like tabards can have different item levels, the highest being the Cata rep tabards at 85. I'm not sure they are actually involved in the average ilvl calculation though.
EDIT2: Thinking about it, I highly doubt that it is so. If it was, wearing an ilvl 85 tabard instead of no tabard would provide a whopping 5 average ilvl (dividing 85 by the number of item slots). Getting a Cata rep tabard would be mandatory for anyone who wants to meet the ilvl requirements for LFR.
EDIT3: Just tested to be absolutely sure, and indeed replacing my ilvl 1 tabard with
Tabard of Ramkahen
resulted in no change to average ilvl. So I very much doubt a tabard or shirt could be the cause of this.

I get this but i have an epic pvp trinket from the krasarang rare in my bank.

I'm fairly certain they made sure that shirts and tabards don't add to your ilvl. There could be something in your bags or bank, even an item won from a heroic or rare that you don't or can't use that hasn't been vendored yet, even if you say there's nothing there.

Indeed, which is why last night I spent a good hour going through every single item in both my bank and void storage, just to be sure. Every single shirt I have is item level 1; I have no "special" or "unique" shirts that may add to the iLevel total.
Same goes for tabards; I believe the most rare or unique or whichever word you want to use is
Tabard of the Achiever
, which is also iLevel 1.
I have literally no gear that I could possibly see contributing to it. I have an epic fishing pole, but it's from the Kula'ak, which is an older rep, which I couldn't see contributing to the total. There's nothing in my bank or inventory waiting to be vendored, disenchanted, etc.
This is why it's confusing me! Lol.
Edit: @Elanorea: That is what I thought as well, in reference to the Cata tabards, but they've all since been deleted. The only tabards I have currently are the
Order of the Cloud Serpent Tabard
and
Tillers Tabard
.

That is kinda weird. I'm looking at my toon right now and it says I have 476 equipped but a total of 478. Maybe upgrading an item affects your ilvl?

That's possible. Hmm. I believe I only have one upgraded piece, and one reforged piece. Maybe I'll "reset" those and see what happens.

Some areas of the game likely use different ways of rounding, I had the problem that my displayed iLvl, both on the character screen and the LFR mouseover said 470, but when I tried to queue, it said I only had 469.
However, even more likely is that you simply overlooked some item in your bank, maybe a third ring or trinket which you didn't think would count.
Btw you could've just linked your
Armory profile
, which states the same.

When I take the time to add up each slot and do the math, it gives you an exact ilvl of 480.3125. It could be like Nulgar points out...maybe Blizz just sucks at rounding.
Set the equipped to round down and the owned to round up....who knows with those guys.

Damage doesn't affect I-level, and I would guarantee that shirts and tabards don't either. What is most likely happening is that there is a vanity item in your bags or bank somewhere, that also has a legitimate item level that you might not be aware of.
I noticed that you have a blue trinket equipped- do you have the Brewfest trinket that summons the Barmaid in your bags or bank? I think a lot of people forget that's actually a stamina trinket with a legitimate Ilevel, as well as a vanity item. And that would be about the appropriate level to bump your overall Ilevel up one point, if you replaced the blue trinket with it.

Thanks for the replies all.
As it turns out, I don't have any upgraded items (I had upgraded a couple of blues, which have since been replaced), so I'm not sure if upgraded items count towards your item level or not.
I also did go through my bank, and yes, I have the brewmaiden's trinket, which I saw when I originally went through my bank for items, the one with stamina, but it's such an old item compared to my current blue, I don't see it affecting the item level. I tried it on, and my item level dropped, but it still retained the one-point difference.
Perhaps it is a rounding issue on Blizzard's part? I'm all out of ideas!
Thanks everyone for the replies though!
