Buying a laptop - need help (u get this a lot I know)
Return to board index
Hi, I know you guys get this a lot, so thanks for helping out! :)
I have narrowed it down to 2:
Here they are:
Processor: Intel 2.3 GHz Core i7-3610QM
RAM: 6 GB DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA Geforce GT 610M 2G
HDD: 750G/5400 RPM
Processor: AMD 2.3 GHz A-Series Quad-Core A10-4600M
RAM: 6 GB SO-DIMM
Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 7660G
HDD: same as above
The second one is slightly cheaper.
I know the Hard drive's kind of slow, but this is the best I found in my price range and I could maybe upgrade that later if it's a big issue.
They both have Windows 7 Home edition.
Which do you think would run WOW better?
from what I was seeing the 610m card was doing about half of what the 7660g was fps.
The hybrid amd processor also has lower power draw inbetween cpu and graphics.
I have a a-8 and it runs wow borderlands cod and a bunch of others fine only one that was unplayable was darksiders 2 mostly because of port issues though.
If your stuck on laptop I will say the second one but. Desktops are going to be better even with exact same hardware. I was looking what a-10 on their was doing compared to what my friends desktop was doing and it was struggling on games his runs on high with smooth as silk.
A desktop build will cost around 420 with monitor. Upsides monitor will be higher resolution than those of the ones that come with laptops even close to price range. Secondly ram will be much faster which drastically effects performance due to mobo ram also being video ram. And thirdly no underclocking for heat power issues that come with laptops standard a-10 for desktop comes clocked at 3.8ghz. Also laptops due to stress of gaming and components sharing more heat the life of a laptop is about half or even 1/3 of a desktop. And lastly when a laptop breaks its pretty much all broke due to it being one big circuit instead of many components. When a desktop breaks you find the break fix one small part.
The GT 610M is a PoS, useful for nothing more than watching videos and facebook games.
If it was a choice between those two, the second one is definitely better. If you have the choice between laptop and desktop, however, a desktop will get you more performance for your money.
thanks for the advice...
a desktop isn't an option for me, I went with the AMD and it's working out ok.
A couple issues with WOW, but better than the old laptop.
I agree with Fetzie but after using AMD for years on my laptops I am soon going to try NVIDIA and compare, obviously ones around the same price range and specs. I have always heard that NVIDIA was better for gaming (well more people had it that ended up with successful results) I will probably end up posting my theory/opinion on which is better because I know that they are two 'competitors' kind of like Android and Apple (iPhone & SmartPhone) I guess. After messing with the graphics settings and get everything set for WoW let me know how it runs please!
