Percentage from Blizzard
Return to board index
Does Blizzard give wowhead a percentage of its profits? It seems when i have a particular problem where I am clueless their support reps will refer me out to wowhead to do homework. I don't mind shelling out to wow head, I do it all the time. Except for something that should seem obvious to me. One would think then, that their online help system would have a direct interface into wowhead.
No, Wowhead is a fan website.
beside that, blizzard offical stand point is that they dont give tips for playing the game.
so if they want too give you a tip, they have too refer you too a fan-site.
atleast that is how i always understood it.
My understanding is that Wowhead is an official fansite recognized by Blizzard, and therefore, if your question has an accurate, concrete answer which could be looked up on Wowhead, it'd make sense for a Blizzard rep to refer you to Wowhead (or any other officially recognized fansite, for that matter, assuming they have the answers as well--Wowhead is probably the most popular fansite for DB lookups.)
Wowhead isn't funded by Blizzard, though. Company-wise, it's an independent media fansite, and is part of the ZAM network. But as a media fansite, most of its financial support comes from advertisements. That alone is a pretty good chunk of money when you consider the Internet traffic Wowhead gets on a daily basis.
Apparently, they do refer to Wowhead in the copypaste ticket response, and they indeed actually mean to use the ressources provided by Wowhead (e.g. the database) but the way it is phrased, it can easily be understood as "go ask someone on the Wowhead forums"
