PVP - Destro Warlocks?
Return to board index
Hi, I am currently leveling a warlock which is going to be my main for Mists of Pandara. I have been playing a protection/holy paladin for years now so I'm pretty new with casters. I'd like to know what do you guys think about Destro in PVP? and what about PVE? I tried Demo and Affliction but they're not as fun as I thought. Destro feels really nice to me except that the burning embers are not regenerating fast enough, is that normal? (I am only level 62 for the moment)
Affliction has always been our best pvp spec. Reason being is you can dot multiple targets. It provides alot of pressure for enemy heals.
That said, I ran into a destro lock last night that was owning me. So the recent changes really seemed to wake them up. I haven't played the new destro, so I can't nitpick it, but it seems viable from what I have seen. Although I still think Affliction is better do to multi dotting. Especially since we can SB:SS instant dots on many targets.
PvE? To soon to tell. Affliction is simming the best, but it's to soon to say for sure.
Well, for randoms, and some arena comps, I'm sure destro is viable. The problem comes when you see real competition.
No other class/spec has the dot damage anywhere near affliction. Especially after 5.0.4, which drastically reduced the dot damage of Balance Druids. And that multi target pressure in organized pvp is far more powerful than the burst on a single target. 2 spells save the single target, it takes a dozen to heal the whole party, and way more time/mana.
But that would be true regardless of destro changes. From what I've heard, destro is pretty much instantly killing players in duels. But without burning embers, I dunno. I have yet to play with the burning embers mechanic, as my new lock is only in his 20's right now, but it doesn't look to be the most easy to deal with resource for pvp.
That said, neither is demonic fury, really. Soul Shards are the easiest to manage in a pvp setting, but also the "most boring" since they've been around in one state or another for years.
I say continue playing destro and keep us informed. With the new patch, none of us can really answer you as any better than you can find out yourself. Personally, I'm leveling Demo/Destro since those are the two specs that saw the most change, while my main is staying affliction, on the occasion that I play him.
I swapped over to Destro from Aff soon after 5.0.4 dropped. The season is over anyway and after being basically forced to play as Aff all Cata I jumped at the chance to play another viable spec.
Destro is pretty fun atm, it is no longer so reliant on immolation (and by extension no longer easy to shut down by spamming dispels). More importantly our main nuke, Chaos Bolt is hitting hard. About 60k on 5k resil targets and over 100k on low/no resil targets. Of course Chaos Bolt has a long cast time and is limited by embers but once the embers are built up it is some serious killing power when combined with a cc chain (instant fear/stun/silence).
Also the on demand self heals are good now. I like using embers to heal more then Aff's slower drain heals especially when I'm getting trained and need big heals right away. Of course we need embers for that too and it cuts into our killing power.
So it's not looking too bad. Destro isn't too likely to knock Aff out of the top lock spec for PvP not only because of Aff's multi-dot pressure but also because of the silence built into UA if it's dispelled. But it doesn't have to knock Aff out of the top spot to be fun and viable. We'll see how things scale at 90 if Chaos Bolt continues to do around around 30-40% of a full resil targets HP and we can instant cast two of them inside of four GCDs with Backdraft effecting them at level 86 I won't be surprised if Destro makes a come back in competitive play.
I'm hoping all three lock specs will be PvP viable at level 90 with Aff as our go to spec for multi-dotting, Destro being our single target nuke spec and Demo having a place as our close combat melee and FC spec.
