Help with Pick Lock / S&D / Fishing Macro
Return to board index
So I got this working, somewhat. It does everything except for casting "Pick Lock". Using the 'mod:alt' shows the pick lock icon and the pick lock tool tip. but when ever I click the button, it states I need combo points... meaning it's not seeing -even though it's showing- the pick lock.
Any help would be appreciated. I thought I had it working before. But logged in today and I don't.
/cast Pick Lock;
/cast Slice and Dice; /cast Fishing
The problem is your conditionals are not properly routed. When you hold alt, Pick Lock is properly being selected, but so is the next line because it doesn't have any conditionals
mod:alt. Also, the /cast must be on a subsequent line or integrated into the line properly. You can't have a command lingering mid-line.
/use Pick Lock; Fishing; Slice and Dice
Each pair of brackets is evaluated on its own. Evaluation starts from the left until it finds the first true conditional, then executes whatever follows that conditional. The part being executed can either be a single value in a group of multiple conditionals like so:
In which case
gets executed if
of the brackets in front of it evaluate to true.
Or can have multiple values. In the case that multiple values are used, you must separate them with a semi-colon. That's what tells the macro system that it's moving to a totally new clause. So the following is valid:
/use value1; value2; defaultvalue
In this case
is only executed if all the brackets before
the bracket in front of itself is true. If all brackets are false, it then falls back to
, since it has no conditionals therefore is always true.
But something like this is
/use value1 value2; value3; /cast value
To the macro system that makes no sense.
would be understood as a single value since nothing separates them. And
would be understood as its own value. It would be like trying to do the following:
/use /cast value
Which obviously won't work, because there's no spell called "/cast value".
Although if you're even considering combining something highly important to DPS like SnD with something like Fishing and Pick Lock, I
suggest you rethink your button or keybinding layout.
~..."We're not talking paintbrushes and No. 2 pencils or anything. These guys deal with technology the way Mozart dealt with piano keys. ..."
When did he say that, and to whom was he referring? I'm curious about that quote.
Google returns nothing.
First: Thank you for the reply. I'm going through it and trying to make sense of it all. I've deciphered I need to accentuate my 'mod:alt' with a follow-on 'nomod' (?) in there as well. The info is great. Thank you.
For the cast choices of "SnD" / Fishing / Pick Lock. Well... I primarily play wow on my own. The slice and dice should always remain as the default option triggered by my mid-mouse click. The other options of fishing and lock pick are spawned by my laziness. fishing is so much easier for me with using just the mouse by itself.
hmmm... thinking about it a bit. The way I currently expressed the macro would have pick lock as default wouldn't it?
As for the quote. I purchase the CE for Cat and in the accompanying book, there is an interview with him where he states the quoted saying. Being in satcom and dealing with tech all day, I took a liking to it.
I can scan the page he states it in if you like.
Again, thank you for the help.
Pick Lock would not be the default, as it would still only cast when alt is held. The trailing semi-colon at the end of the line was just superfluous, since moving to a new line means a totally new state of execution, and has nothing to do with the previous line (except, of course, if GCD from the previous line causes it to fail: but it still gets evaluated either way).
The first part I wrote will do precisely what you're asking for:
/use Pick Lock; Fishing; Slice and Dice
If you want to split this multi-line to make it more readable, here you go:
/use Pick Lock
/use Fishing; Slice and Dice
The stopmacro does what it suggest, stops the macro if its condition evaluates to true (in this case, if alt is held). This is easier than writing
By the way, /use is just shorthand for /cast. They both do the same thing, whether an item or a spell is passed. /use just saves a letter.
And the scan won't be necessary. I was just wondering if he was trying to compare Blizzard's programmers to Mozart. That would be a good laugh.
Thanks again. And also. Sorry, I miss-spoke from where the quote came from. It was not from one of the CE books. It was from Volume 1, Issue 3 of the World of Warcraft Official Magazine. His interview begins on page 22, and the response is to a question on page 29.
The Nature of Art
There has been a lot of discussion in the gaming world lately, inspired by an opinion put forth by a well-known movie critic, about whether games can be art. What is your opinion on that? Are games art?
His response (shortened by two initial paragraphs): "... ... The only difference is that, like Hollywood, you've got sometimes upwards of hundreds of people all collaboratively shaping products that have the same essential DNA as anything else. We've got original music that a highly artistic musician wrote and composed. We've got dozens of artists, painters, and illustrators all throwing in to create the vision of this thing, whatever it is. You've got the new expressions of coding and design. You can say 'oh, those are just mechanical processes,' but they're not. What's the simple process of coding with 1s and 0s but building things that do not exist, like constructing the invisible, and making rule sets to define the physics of the invisible... Name me a more creative process. We're not talking paintbrushes and No. 2 pencils or anything. These guys deal with technology the way Mozart dealt with piano keys. You just can't tell me it's not art."
There are two more paragraphs that follow. But in a short, sort of off-the-hook manner... Yeah. He was comparing, not just Blizzard, but games in general, to Mozart's ability to create.
Just wanted to acknowledge that router54 is one of the reasons Wowhead's UI&M board is known as a good place to come to get real help, and this thread further demonstrates that point.
Oh in that case I totally agree.
