(take note i am looking into gems right now and i want to hold off on enchants until i have gear i know i'll keep for some time)
Welcome back! One of the newer features on Wowhead is the Guides section, which can be accessed through the "Guides" tab on the top of Wowhead pages. Within there, you may want to check out
Living in the Shadows: Shadow PVE
Also of note is the
Shadow Priest (PvE)
guide by Noxxic and the
PvE Shadow Priest
guide by Icy Veins, as both are in-depth and comprehensively detail the various components of being a shadow priest.
Pro Tip: Switch the armory page to "Advanced" and it will tell you if you are missing any gems or enchants or glyphs or talents or profession bonuses.
Also, have a look at wowheros.com which will rate your enchants based on your spec.
I notice most people just suggest guides... and if you want a good website to peruse, i suggest the noxxic website as well. However, my main is a shadow priest, and I'm bored so I just feel like typing some thoughts out here.
First: You should reforge your spell hit back down to the cap, which is 1742, or 17% spell hit. Any spell hit beyond that does not provide any extra benefit. As a spriest I know that mana can sometimes run out quickly, which is why I find it important to use gear that is either all or mostly spirit gear, instead of hit gear. And, though it looks like the current strategies may change in MoP, continue to use SW: Death, Dark Archangel, and Shadowfiend to get your mana back (or dispersion if you really have to).
Second: the stat Priority for Shadow Priests in 4.3 is as follows:
Intellect > Spell Hit Cap 17% > Haste > Mastery > Crit
With three DoTs, haste is incredibly important, the more of it you can get the better. I mention this because I notice you are stacking 20+Int and 20+Crit gems, which you should switch to 20 Int and 20 Haste gems (Reckless Ember Topaz).
Also any opportunity you have to use a red gem in the gem slots, the better. 40+ int gives you much more dps than any 20 Int + 20 other stat combination. And gems have been getting cheaper and cheaper lately so It should be easier to get those brilliant inferno rubies.
As you get into LFR and the Dragon Soul normal raid, you might want to consider just buying the 397 bracers and boots as they are both bind on equip, so you could easily find those on the Auction House or just find a person who is looking to make some gold off of their VP.
If you are interested in taking a look, my priest is Evrae on Cenarius. She is 399 ilvl, but you can see the gems and enchants that I have.
