Hellooo. Well I'll just get straight to the point. I've been leveling up my Warrior lately (currently sitting at 69), and I plan on tanking as I level and when I hit 85. But the thing keeping me from actually trying to get past 69 is that I constantly hear people saying things like "Warrior's are the most under-powered class in the game right now, don't waste your time with them" or even as harsh and straight-up as "Warrior tanks suck." I've tanked well (based on what friends/group members have said) on just about every class at 85 (except a Pally) so things like learning to use a Warrior's cooldowns effectively shouldn't be too much of a problem. I'm not really the kind of person that likes playing a class going through a "handicap phase", but I'm the amateur so I'll just listen in on what you guys think..
TL;DR: I want to tank as a Warrior but a majority of people claim they aren't up to par with other tanks, so I'm skeptical to do so. Any knowledge on this subject?
This post should really be in the warrior class forum. But as to your question. Don´t believe the hype. I have all the classes and I tank on those who can (for faster sign up times). The warrior might not have the best aoe threat value of the classes but that can be overcome with the cleave glyph and tying thunderclap and cleave together in a macro so you spam thunderclap on cooldown while cleaving.
What I absolutely adore about the class is it´s mobility.. you can literally play ping pong with your toon, bouncing off foe and friend alike (this is also a really fun feature in PvP btw).
Any perceived shortcomings of the class can be overcome with practice and dare I say it.. love for the class. Keep on truckin´
wrote two fantastic guides that you may want to look at.
Sword and Board - A Protection Warrior Tanking Guide (PvE)
and the follow-up
More Sword and Board - A Protection Warrior Tanking Compendium (PvE)
are highly in-depth looks at how to best play a tanking warrior. All aspects of a tanking warrior are addressed, including stat preference, gemming, rotation, and addons, providing a complete reference for tanking warriors of all skill levels.
Whoops, I thought I at least put the thread in General Discussion.. My apologies for that.
Anyhow thanks a ton for the responses guys, I really appreciate it and it won't happen again! :P
you've been been mislead. the onyl thing warriors arnty strong in is pvp atm and even then a well played warrior in pvp can be devastating.
as far as pve warriors are near the top in all aspects. im speaking as a warrior tank. we are powerfull bro and our aoe isnt weak at all its frickin powerful.
There is nothing drastically wrong with Warrior tanking. For 5 mans and Regular DS there was nothing ever wrong with Warriors even pre-nerf. Some fights was a little harder on healers but we were completely via-able.
The problem lay in certain fights in Heroic DS that made using a non Warrior less of a hassle because other classes had better mechanics to deal with the incoming damage such as DK's vs Yorshaj as they were able to help heal themselves and not cause the stacking debuff when they got healed in addition to the way their blood shields worked.
So keep on leveling your Warrior if you enjoy him.
Side note I would use the guides as general reference only and not and end all be all on how to best play a Warrior. They are a decently good starting point for end game tanking.
