How to fix "Item is still being rolled for" bug?

When me and my friend were on a quest, I was trying to get an item from a dead monster, but it said that the item was still being rolled for when it seemed that there was nothing being rolled for at the moment. We tried picking it up one at a time, but it still didn't work. The message persisted until the monster disappeared, and neither of us got the item. How could we fix this bug?
Issues with looting can usually be fixed by relogging, that way your client will hopefully receive the proper position and loot status of a mob again.
Anyway, which quest, and which monster? There are some where I think a bug like this could arise.
Actually, there were 2 quests in which we encountered that bug so far; one was The Bear Necessities with Elder Brown Bear, and the other was Constrictor Vines with Mutated Constrictor. Both of them were in Bloodmyst Isle. My friend and I used to join together as a group, but when this bug occurred, we hadn't. Could this be one of the reasons this bug was arisen?

Normally as Nathanyel said relogging helps with this. The way to do it is to use the game menu (esc) and select the option log off. Once back to the character selection screen come back in to the same character and you will be in the same place with the dead mob able to be looted. If you were in a group when the mob was killed the other player may be the one designated to loot that particular mob and they may have to do the same. If you are wanting to continue to run grouped you may have to reform the group.

Well, the looting problems that I know of are your client believing the corpse to be at a different spot than it actually is, and your character getting "stuck" in the looting state, again mostly a client problem, and both can be fixed by relogging, as mentioned.
Your error message, however, usually only comes up in dungeons or other situations where several players can roll on an item - I forgot to ask, was the item in question even something that would require rolling (green or better quality) or was it a quest item, or just a normal white item?
I've had it solo in Icecrown looting the mobs there. I get the message once, then the mobs show the grey loot sack and no longer respond to my attempt to loot.
Logging off and on again fixes it for me.
Yeah, sometimes there's a big loot lag. I've even experienced it while running dungeons and I was stuck hunched over tanking mobs and bosses for the rest of the place. It was funny, so I didn't bother relogging xD
