Places to eat - a Wowhead collection

Squishalot
Hey guys,
While I was out at dinner tonight, I was thinking that we ought to put together a list of great places that we've been out to for lunch, dinner, drinks, etc., so that if any other fellow Wowhead'er happens to be in the area, they can have a guide of sorts to check out.
As people add their suggestions for places to eat / drink, I'll try to keep up with compiling them into a list on the front page. I'll do my best to categorise them by region.
To prevent this from getting too flooded, I'm thinking it makes sense to have a couple of minor rules:
Suggestions should not include any chain restaurants (e.g. McDonalds, Pizza Hut, etc.), unless that chain is only available in your locality (e.g. city / state).
Ideally, it'll be a place that you've been to at least a couple of times, unless it's really, REALLY good. (Or really expensive, that makes it hard to go back multiple times.)
I'm not sure about posting links to websites for the restaurants, but if this hits off, we can look at including it into the template if applicable.
To make it easier to compile, having suggestions in a template format (bottom of this post, for easy access) will be good, so I can quote / copy / paste into the main post.
That's all I can think of, so contribute away!
Here's a couple of examples to get us going.
United States
Dahl & Di Luca
- Recommended by wooha
Location:
Sedona, Arizona, USA
Cuisine:
Italian
Price:
$30-100/person (depends on what order)
Description:
Owner and head chef is originally from italy. He moved to the US and decided to open a fine dining restaurant with high quality authentic italian food in mind. Great atmosphere and probably the best service i've ever received.
1899 Bar and Grill
- Recommended by wooha
Location:
Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff, Arizona, USA
Cuisine:
Fine Dining/Contemporary
Price:
$30-50/person
Description:
Very modern/contemporary restaurant with a bar. Excellent food, if your ever in flagstaff i highly recommend it. Service can be hit or miss
Ichiban Curryhouse
- Recommended by wooha
Location:
Honolulu, Hawaii, USA
Cuisine:
Japanese Curry
Price:
$6-10/plate
Description:
Basically, it's japanese sticky rice with some form of topping, chicken katsu, stewed shredded beef, etc with japanese curry over everything. Basically, a good place to grab lunch if your looking for a curry style food =D.
Dragon East
- Recommended by Hatman
Location:
Branford, CT, USA
Cuisine:
Chinese
Price:
$7 - $20
Description:
Dragon East is probably the best sit down quick Chinese place I have ever been too. Its very close to my work. My co workers and I usually go 2 times a week, so over the past 4 years, we have probably been there over 300 times. The owner takes the time to learn everyone's name, and you can get any dish made up anyway you want. They have the best Wong Ton Soup in the state. Amazing place.
Sushi Palace
- Recommended by Hatman
Location:
Hamden, CT, USA
Cuisine:
Japanese
Price:
$16 - $26
Description:
All you can eat sushi is always a risk, you never know what you are going to get at one of these places. Will it be fresh, do the people know what they are doing? At Sushi Palace, its NEVER a guess, you always know that you are going to walk away full and happy. They move so much quantity that they always have fresh fish from NYC delivered daily. While the local is very small, the atmosphere is great, and the food is amazing. Mmmmm Sushi ^_^
Benkert's Bakery
- Recommended by Elhonna
Location:
Middle Country Rd., Centereach, NY
Cuisine:
Italian Pastries, Chocolates, Cookies
Price:
$3-6
Description:
Best bakery ever. Their pastries are huge, and so yummy. They do giant Napoleons that are amazing and the best cannolis. The decorations on their cakes and cupcakes are really well-done. They have all sorts of homemade cheesecakes, pies, tarts, regular cakes, etc. They also do bread and bagels. Any time I have a family event, I stop there and get dessert for everyone. And before you ask, this is NOt the bakery I work at :P
Holstein's
- Recommended by sas148
Location: Inside the Cosmopolitan, Las Vegas, NV
Cuisine: Burgers, Milkshakes (Alcoholic)
Price: $15-20 per person
Menu:
Here
Description
:
Holsteins is an exciting new burger concept from Las Vegas restaurateurs Billy Richardson and Chef Anthony Meidenbauer of Block 16 Hospitality. This concept was tailor-made for The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas with an emphasis on fresh, natural and organic ingredients. Undoubtedly, Holsteins brings better burgers to Las Vegas and a funky, homegrown attitude to The Strip. The menu feature's specialty burgers, house-made sausage, riffs on traditional American snacks and appetizers, as well as a wide variety of shakes and sides. All items – including toppings, buns and condiments – are custom crafted in-house, creating Las Vegas Strip burgers unlike any other. The absolute best burger I've ever had in my life was the Gold Standard which you can find on the menu, it's the most expensive burger they have but it is very much worth it!
Clinton Station Diner
- Recommended by Deathbyte
Location:
Clinton, New Jersey, USA
Cuisine:
Casual 24 Hour Diner
Price:
$10-$20
Description:
A diner that NEVER closes. It is known for its burgers, it was on the food network for the size of its burgers. Like
Mt. Olympus
which weighs
only
50 lbs! (This will cost more than $20 though)
The Boathouse
- Recommended by Montezuma7
Location:
Traverse City, MI, USA
Cuisine:
Steak, Seafood, Fine Dining
Price:
$40-60
Description:
A really great fine dining steak and seafood place overlooking lake Michigan. They serve kobe beef steaks (only time I've had one in the US) and a variety of fresh seasonal seafood (swordfish was the special when I was there). Great selection of local wines (traverse city has a lot of good wineries). Meals are around $30 but everything is ala cart so you can rack up a bill with a salad, appetizer, dessert and drinks.
Steve and Rocky's
- Recommended by Montezuma7
Location:
Novi, MI, USA
Cuisine:
American Fine Dining
Price:
$20-40
Description:
This guy named Chuck Mueir has a bunch of restaurants in southeast Michigan and they're all good, but this is the one I've been to the most. Menu varies by the week but it's items like lobster specials, prime rib, roasted duck, portobello mushroom ravioli, lamb shank, filet mingon. All American style fine dining dishes, but not terribly expensive compared to some places.
Menchanko Tei
- Recommended by Orangutan
Location:
131 East 45th Street, between Lexington and 3rd ; 43-45 West 55th Street, between 5th and 6th (personally, I prefer the East 45th location), New York City, New York, USA
Cuisine:
Japanese
Price:
A couple could eat well for around $40.
Description:
Menchanko Tei is a small, but not uncomfortably so, traditional Japanese restaurant. They have all the standard sushi offerings, plenty of chicken and pork dishes, but the star of the menu is the stew that the place is named for. The basic menchanko is thick ramen noodles in a rich soy broth with chicken, shrimp, fish, tofu, ricecake and vegetables added, cooked and served in a huge iron pot. I personally like the Chige Miso Menchanko (spicy miso broth) and the Gyu Suki Menchanko (sliced beef and vegetables with noodles in a sweet soy broth) Be hungry when you go here. One thing about their rice balls. They are excellent, and you'll think you can eat more than two. But you'll be wrong. :)
FIX
- Recommended by Orangutan
Location:
The Bellagio, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
Cuisine:
Contemporary American
Price:
You're gonna pay. Between drinks, appetizers, main course and dessert, a couple can easily get over $200. But damn if it ain't worth it.
Description:
I've dined at FIX twice, and both times it was just amazing. The food is fantastic, the presentation is beautiful, the ambiance is incredible. You must try the Lobster 'Mashed', mashed potatoes with chive butter and Maine lobster. I recommend the Pork Prime Rib and the Scallops, and people whose opinion I trust say the Kobe Sliders are excellent.
Lambert's Cafe (Home of the Throwed Rolls)
- Recommended by Jubilee
Location:
2981 S. McKenzie
Foley, AL, 36535
Cuisine:
Southern homestyle cooking
Price:
$10 to $20
Description:
Really really really fun place to eat. They are famous for their "throwed rolls" which are homemade bread rolls that they literally throw around the restaurant for you to eat. They also have other good southern side dishes like black eyed peas and fried okra that get passed around the place (in a less crazy way) which are free with your meal too. It's a great atmosphere and the food is great home-cooking. There are also two locations in Missouri.
An Important Note about Gatlinburg Directions
Gatlinburg (as anyone who's visited can attest) is a walking town. Few places, including restaurants have dedicated parking, and the ones that do fill very quickly. The best plan for spending a day in Gatlinburg is parking somewhere between Traffic Lights #5 and #8 and walking everywhere from there. The entire length of the strip is just under a mile long, so most people shouldn't have a problem parking one place and walking. Also, there are no Traffic Lights #4 or #7, and #2 and #9 are not full lights (blinking caution on the Parkway, and blinking stop on the cross street). I promise it's not really that confusing once you're on foot. - Pwntiff

Location:
Honolulu, HI, USA
Cuisine:
Authentic Japanese Ramen
Price:
$10-20/person
Description:
Yes this is a ramen shop, but this isn't the packaged ramen crap that we eat at home. You will never be able to eat cup-o-noodles ever again after eating here. There is also a specialty ramen that has a certain cut of pork in it that is delicous (don't remember the name). Unfortunately it's served in limited supply and is first come first serve starting at 11am.
will add more later.

Kowloon
Location:
Hovedgaden 7(?), Aarhus, Denmark
Cuisine:
Chinese and Vietnamese lunch and dinner
Price:
Cheap (for Danish restaurants) around 8-10 USD per meal.
Description:
It's a nice little restaurant owned by a Viatnamese family right in the middle of the city. They offer some of the best food available in the middle of a city which isn't famous for it's fantastic cooking. It's small but comfortable, kind of like your own home, and also offers takeaway.

Piggvars Gatan 3, Fiskebäck, Gothenburg, Sweden
Cuisine:
Pizza and Thai food.
Price:
60 kronor
Description:

Yea, if you happen to be in Fiskebäck of all things to do, not the most fantastic pizzas.
There was this place called Gigis that was totally awesome, cheaper than McDonalds, twice as much food and it all tasted great. Sadly they went bankrupt.

Hey, Squishalot, i was thinking if you could put the template as Code So other players could copy & paste it.
Its just a suggestion, you can ignore this if you want.

Well done Squish. You might need to add more toggles inside the US for individual States if the list gets bigger.

Thanks! And yes, was absolutely intending to. Can we toggle inside toggles? Might need to pick Alf's brain for formatting tips.

Onyx Restaurant, Tapas and Bar
Location:
Surf Parade, Broadbeach, Gold Coast, QLD, Australia
Cuisine:
Contemporary
Price:
Main, dessert and a drink or two should cost around $50-$60
Description:
Located in fancy Broadbeach, this restaurant offers an upmarket, loungey atmosphere. The service is typical Gold Coast friendly, and the food is unbelievable. My personal recommendation is the chicken fillet stuffed with asparagus and goat's milk. The sticky date pudding is the pick of the desserts - it just melts in your mouth. They also do cocktails. Located only 200m from the famous beaches of the Gold Coast, 500m from Jupiter's Casino, and 3km from Surfers Paradise.
Charis Seafoods
Location:
Marine Parade, Labrador, Gold Coast, QLD, Australia
Cuisine:
Seafood
Price:
The burgers are all $6.50 - $8.50
Description:
You could be excused for thinking it's just your run-of-the-mill fishmonger-come-seafood takeaway. It basically is, but the quality of the food makes anything else seem pretty underwhelming. It is in a beautiful spot on the Broadwater in the Gold Coast's northern suburbs.
Kanwal Pizza & Pasta
Location:
Wallarah Road, Kanwal, Central Coast, NSW, Australia
Cuisine:
Italian
Price:
Lunch pastas are $5. Large pastas are $11. Pizzas range from $9-$18.
Description:
Pizzas range from the very simple (plain crust with oil and salt) through to classic flavours done to the max - we're talking toppings over an inch thick. They also do a mean boscaiola.
Barto's Bakehouse
Location:
Victoria Street, East Gosford,Central Coast, NSW, Australia
Cuisine:
Pies and cakes
Price:
A meat pie will cost $3-$4
Description:
The meat pie is the hallmark of Australian cuisine. Quality can range from dodgy, dried-out pieces of crap that you buy from the 7eleven, to exquisite gourmet pies in all manner of flavours. I consider myself a conossieur of meat pies, and these are the best I have ever eaten. I used to grab two for breakfast every morning. I recommend the beef cheese & garlic, beef and mushroom, or chicken and vegetable.
Harajuku Gyoza
Location:
Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley, Brisbane, QLD, Australia
Cuisine:
Japanese
Price:
Gyozas are $8 each. Dessert is apple gyoza with ice cream for $9.
Description:
As far as I know, this is the only gyoza restaurant in Brisbane. (A gyoza is a Japanese dumpling). They also serve beer and saké. Located in Fortitude Valley, which is Brisbane's nightlife, entertainment and dining district, immediately to the east of the CBD.
Fredo's Famous Pies
Location:
Pacific Highway, Frederickton, NSW, Australia
Cuisine:
Australian
Price:
A crocodile pie will set you back about $5
Description:
This is in the middle of country NSW, near Kempsey which is an absolute dump of a town. However, the Pacific Highway is the road from Sydney to Brisbane, so chances are if you come to Australia you will pass through Kempsey. If you want to stop for the night, do it at Port Macquarie to the south or Coffs Harbour to the north, but you absolutely
must
try a crocodile pie. I have personally recommended it to every backpacker I have ever met. Crocodile meat is my absolute favourite meat, however it is unfortunately not very common. Don't be tempted by other flavours like kangaroo or wild boar. Wild boar tastes rancid, and kangaroo is readily available in supermarkets, so you can try it some other time.
