For 2s, I would generally go with a healer, but Hunter does work well with some DPS.
Take Feral Druid or Frost Mage, for instance.
For 3s, there are a couple comps out there (I think everyone and their mom is trying PHD). I believe there's lists of viable comps out there for Hunters, such as on Arena Junkies.

I run with a hunter as a feral kitty, and the sheer damage and the amount of control available amazes me.
Cyclone, roots, freezing trap, scatter shot, intimidation or silencing shot, scare beast, hibernation, cat/bear stuns...yeap, has it all.

What would be the best healer to go with a hunter in 2v2? :)
Probably a Shaman, as they can CC very well, have good anti-burst mechanics, and are not likely to get trained because if they do the Hunter will just wreck them.
2's I run Hunter/Frost Mage, and we're planning on picking up a Resto Shaman/Holy Paladin for threes at some point, though may end up having to run Hunter/Mage/Rouge. Your best bet for three's is probably Jungle Cleave (Hunter, Feral, Healer).

Double dps is a lot more fun than Hunter+Healer beacuse the games are more interesting and also shorter, and a Hunter has a hard time exerting enough pressure to kill something on its own.
But I've had good luck running BM+Holy Priest since it has good CC chains and good burst.
In general, any melee class has good synergy with Hunter. Feral, DK, Rogue or Ret Pally all do pretty well with a Hunter.

Feral Druids are really good dps with hunters, Ferals are really OP atm, and the Feral CC is really OP too.
