Decided to make a forum dedicated mainly to the upcoming Bethesda RPG ~ Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim
But why leave the other ones out in the stone cold you might ask? Well here's a list of all the Elder Scrolls games Bethesda has released, including Skyrim:
Elder Scrolls I: Arena
Elder Scrolls II:Daggerfall
Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
There's the main series of them, other Elder Scroll related games include
Redguard
and
Battlespire
.
So before we kickstart the forum I have decided to post some collected information that I have scouted out through multiple sources pertaining to the RPG spotlight, Skyrim. Enjoy!
All new Graphics
:
As with a new game, comes a new brand new engine to create beautiful and fantastic art within the cold mountains of Skyrim like never before, from unique skeletal dungeons that can be one of the 150 within Skyrim to the rolling clouds perched high above in the sky, Bethesda is building Skyrim purely from the ground-up. Many new facial emotions are also being integrated to distinctly show the bursting emotions and feelings that the CPU might feel, hate or admiration, the unscripted gameplay can literally have hundreds of outcomes from the same event whatever it may be. The tree's will brustle according to the breeze of the wind, the water will flow, and the dynamic new snow engine is being redone too, instead of just being a texture. There will also be kids, beards, and dynamic shadows. Better customization for the player will be introduced, with many facepaint options.
More Interactive Gameplay
:
Yes there will be kill moves in Skyrim, so if you're an assassin or a hunter, depending on you're weapon and the creature you're fighting there will be many different animations for many different styles of combat, whether you want to be a Battlemage or Warrior it entirely depends upon you and you're playstyle. Dual wielding has been integrated as well, so you can literally
wield
a spell or carry around two daggers, or dual wield the same spell to perform a more powerful spell, but you cannot wield different types of spells at the same time. Players can sprint at the cost of Stamina. Also you cannot run backwards as fast as forward. The leveling system will be leaning towards the leveling system that Fallout had, where enemies will level with you, but some stronger then others in certain areas. The combat system is also being overhauled with finishing moves as I said before. Perk picking at every level-up, of those include 280 perks and 18 skills. Perk skills may also be saved up for later levels. So players can train in specific skills, and each skill has it's own set of perks, such as Destruction - Increased crit chance, and so on and so forth. Randomly generated quests also add to the unique experience of the player and dragons can attack the 5 major cities, Skyrim has less major cities then Oblivion had, but it is more of a Quality vs. Quantity thing, the cities are expected to be larger and contain new things such as blacksmiths, mining, woodcutting, farming, dueling, and cooking. NPCs can perform each of these which creates a more realistic environment for the player. When talking to an NPC, events still occur around them and they will continue their actions while talking.
The main character, "Dragonborn" or "Dovakinn" can perform exotic and unique abilities called Dragon Shouts. There are 20 different shouts that can be empowered through absorbing the souls of the dragon NPC's unscripted gameplay, such as teleporting or summoning a dragon to aid you in combat. There are different types of dragons, (e.g. frost dragons, fire dragons, all that good stuff) that will fight differently and some travel alone or in small groups, so a frost dragon's attacks will slow the player and drain stamina, while a flame dragon's attacks will deal more damage and inflict or burn the player over time, dealing additional damage. Also caves will be much different and unique, as in Oblivion where there were Forts, Ruins, and Caves and that was pretty much it, Skyrim now has a team of 8 dungeon designers as there was only 1 in Oblivion, so every dungeon will be completely unique and distinct. Also, after visiting a dungeon at let's say level 1, the mobs within there will stay at that level, so if you come back at level 8, they will still be level 1, allowing you to explore that hidden path you couldn't reach last time. Animal companions such as dogs will also be introduced.
Each settlement or town will have it's own economy, which the player can stimulate through doing jobs, or harm by sabotaging industrial buildings such as lumber mills. The class system within most role playing games such as Oblivion and World of Warcraft is being removed, the gameplay will naturally envelop the player into his own unique class or role depending on you're playstyle. So if you're into hurling fireballs with blazing currents of fire or just crackin' skulls with you're mace, the possibilities are limitless. Bows will take longer to draw back but deal more damage, and also have a short range defensive attack, shields may also bash enemies, arrows WILL be more expensive. But money should be easier to acquire with jobs. With the new Radiant Story System, side-quests and gameplay will adjust to the player's playstyle as well, so if you're a lone thief type of player then you're more likely to receive a quest to steal a valuable item for someone of great importance or kill a designated target. Or let's say if you drop a valuable weapon and a merchant picks it up he will try to sell it, or if you kill that merchant and retrieve back you're weapon, his brother might take over the shop and sware revenge on you.
You can craft or improve weapons using runes, a forge, enchants, or poison them with a variety of different poisons. Assassination kill animations will be introduced, so instead of just hacking an enemy down with a mace and them yelling "Hey stop that!" you can actually sneak up on them and get the job done. Lockpicking is more similar to Fallout then Oblivion's style. The persuading mini-game has been taken out, but the skill of speechcraft remains. The jailing system has been improved and there will be no bounty on you're head if there have been no witnesses to a crime, or if you murdered the only witness. Furthermore, there are different kinds of bounties for different crimes you have done and guards will attempt to arrest you and place you in jail, much like Oblivion. Also, much like real life, if you commit a crime in let's say the city Whiterun, then flee to another province within Skyrim, you're crimes will be forgotten to the residents inhabiting there, but you will still be wanted within whatever place you have commited a crime containing a witness that you commited.
Story and Setting
:
Skyrim will have fast travel where players can teleport to a previously visited location, but it costs money :\ Creatures include: Sabre-toothed cats, Mammoths, Skeletons (Draugr), Zombies, Trolls, Giants, Wolves, Giant Spiders, Wraiths, Bandits, Atronachs, Ghosts, Bears, Goblins, Dragons, and possibly more. Books are also coming into Skyrim, over 300 of them to be specific. Bards are also confirmed, although I doubt you can fight as one. Spells can be bought or learned from spell tomes. Factions include: The Companions (The Fighter's Guild), College of Winterhold (The Mages' Guild), and The Dark Brotherhood (The Thieves' Guild) Other factions include: "The Stormcloaks" and "The Riverwood Warrior Clan". The armor system is the same to Oblivion, except cuirass and greaves are being combined to form one major set of armor. Skyrim is set north of Cyrodiil and contains 6 to 9 different types of terrain.
200 years after the events of Oblivion, the High King of Skryim has been assassinated and a rebellion has broke out, the Loyalists who want to stay within the Imperial Empire clash against the rebels who want to break free from the Empire's rule. As predicted in the Elder Scrolls, the Nordic God of Destruction, Alduin and his black dragon minions, the "Jills" invade Skyrim, ravaging villages and destroying settlements, but you, (the player) was born with the soul of a dragon and can stand against them. The main storyline takes about 20 hours of gameplay and the optional quests hundreds more. Starting out, the starting experience for the player is much like Oblivion, being an unknown prisoner that is being sent off to execution, one of the main characters, Esbern, one of the last blades helps the hero escape however, and the story engulfs into a sequence of events where the player learns of the dragons and how only he/she can use the shouts to defeat them. Racism will also be introduced, as Nords will hate Elves. There will be ship transportation, houses available to buy, as well as the option to become a vampire like in Oblivion. Don't know about werewolves though.

You know, I hate being the one to tell you this, especially seeing how you've written quite a lot on the subject, but we already
have
several
suitable
threads where you could have dropped this.
Kudos to you, though, that's a pretty extensive list of features. Some of it is news to me, even, and I've been squeezing out all info I could find on the game the last few weeks!
Looking forward to becoming a vampire again ^^
Edit: Anyway - I was under the impression that The Dark Brotherhood (<3) was supposed to be a faction separate from The Thieves' Guild, just like they have been earlier, what with the Thives not at all liking people getting murdered and all. Have I got that wrong?(##RESPBREAK##)2##DELIM##Ashelia##DELIM##I disagree--those threads would have all lost this information and not allowed people to discuss Skyrim. If someone wants to make a new thread and treat it this in-depth and write it this well, they are always welcome to =)

Non-spell combat looks ok at best to me based on everything I've seen. Combat has never been the high point of any of the Elder Scrolls games, but I had hoped that we would see some good, solid, memorable first-person melee combat finally.

Would be nice if they made bows slightly more compelling, too. S+M1, run in backwards circles until stuff is dead.
Also, I have not paid even a quarter of what this game costs for a video game in I cannot remember how long, but good luck those of you willing to pay 60 bucks because of fond memories of previous games in the franchise! I will see you all when it's on Steam super sale in a year.

But by then we'll already know everything and more there is to know about the game and, and, and... I don't know, I just never really saw the appeal of waiting so long for a game that's already out
:p

I have no issue with people that wait X amount of time to get that perfect deal, but to me it was never really a rush to save that extra 20/30/40 dollars. Especially when that amount of time is a year, and you can earn that money back at least 100 times over during that time. So I could get the game a bit later, but I don't feel that it's a waste of money. I don't feel that in 20 years I'll look back and say "Man, I wish that I had that 20/30/40 extra dollars right now."
Of course, it would inevitably stack up over time. If you buy say 4 games a year for 40 dollars extra , that's quite a lot in 20 years from now ^^

It's kind of weird to look at it from the perspective of 20 years in the future. Look at it from the perspective of right now for a lot of people. A lot of people have somewhat of a limited budget for games, maybe $60 every one or two months. If they buy only AAA games at launch, they get 1 game every one or two months, but if they wait until games are down to $30 before they buy them, then they are getting to play twice as many games.

True, but I won't look back in 20 years and think 'man I wish I had started playing Skyrim eight months earlier than I did' either.

I've always had problems with Elder Scrolls. The world is vast, beautiful, and there's a lot to do. I love that aspect. But I really always hated two things:
1) How the characters looked. Sorry, it's a big deal to me if you boast how great of a creation system you have and I can't manage to even look like anything. It annoyed me a lot.
2) Combat.
So if it fixes these regards, I think it will be a great game for me. I think #1 is definitely handled, everything looks loads better, but I worry about #2 a lot.

Guns and Bows were okay, but anything to do with melee (especially in morrowind) was just pants-on-head retarded.

I don't know, taking enemies heads off with a teddy bear gun was kind of fun in Fallout. But yea I'd have to agree with you, repeatedly pressing the right trigger could get boring. As long as they have something like the Knights of the Nine or Battlehorn Castle type add-ons, I will be a happy panda :) Although, Skyrim seems more focused on Norse style lore and game play, while Oblivion leaned towards that Medieval European feel. But I don't know, who cares about my babble? SKYRIM LOOKS AMAZING.
