Inspiration and role-models

Where do you derive your inspiration from? Is it from someone you know personally, or do you look to someone more abstract who you aren't in as direct a relationship with? Or maybe you take your inspiration a fictional character?
I personally find the life and story of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, a catholic nun, to be something that I find the most inspiring. It takes someone of remarkable heart and character to do what she did for so many years, and I can respect her deep faith in spite of tribulation.

My inspiration comes from needs.
If I'm starving or low on cash, I will find the inspiration to work hard and grind it out.
Some inspiration comes from my father, who is very hard working.
Spiderman and batman are good role models that I look up to.

Is it sad I honestly can't think of anyone I really consider a 'role model?'

Mother Teresa is an interesting choice. Especially because just before she died she shared that often in her life she doubted God. I liked that; it showed more of her humanity, and that not all Christians are fake pretenders.
I like researching about important figures in history, like Winston Churchill, Cyrus the Great, and
Vasili Arkhipov
. I feel that their character and decisions they made are most fascinating.
Genghis Khan is often seen as a murderous barbarian, but historical fact tells us that he was a fair and giving ruler. He could also be ruthless and cunning. Early in his empire, he sent a trade envoy to an Eastern European kingdom to request a trade agreement. That kingdom slaughtered the envoy mercilessly. Genghis sent another, and it happened again. He then rallied his horsemen and completely obliterated that kingdom and wiped that people from existence.

Kinda the same. I don't really have any role models. There are people that affect my life by what they do and think, but none to a degree that I would say they are an inspiration.

If I could think of anything that applies here, Les Misérables kinda affected my sense of morality >_> so Victor Hugo, I guess.

I wouldn't say I look up to any particular person as a role model. Certainly there are famous sayings, or famous stories, or people I know personally, that affect the way I live my life, but none so strongly that I feel the need to model myself after them.
Here's a few quotes I love:
"Imagination is more important than knowledge." - Albert Einstein.
"There ain't no sin and there ain't no virtue. There's just stuff people do." - John Steinbeck.
“I failed in some subjects in exam, but my friend passed in all. Now he is an engineer in Microsoft and I am the owner of Microsoft.” - Bill Gates.
"Anywhere I roam, where I lay my head is home." - James Hetfield (it's a line from the Metallica song "Wherever I May Roam").
Probably the character who has influenced me most would be Tyler Durden, Brad Pitt's character from Fight Club.

Interesting thing about him, too: Before he attacked a city, he would demand surrender from a white tent. If they acquiesced,
he killed absolutely no one.
Next day, a red tent, which means he would kill all of the men, and the day after that a black tent, which meant no promises.
So not a very patient man, but willing to work with his enemies to prevent loss of life.

Ib4 Adams.
Though I kind of agree with him. It's not that she's unattractive, not by a long shot, but definitely not the 'hottest thing alive.'

I've never had any. And I've always based it on that, if you want to be someone else, it's because you aren't satisfied with yourself.

I'm adding Karl Stefanovic to my list
