In this topic i'll post everything useful i know about level 70 PVP'ing for those who are interested.
GEAR
All of the gear below is buyable in Gadgetzan, Area 52 and Dalaran Sewers
The
Brutal Gladiator's
armor sets
can now be bought with Honor.
Chest, Legs and Head costs 175 honor, while Shoulders and Hands costs 150.
All these added are 825 honor.
The
Brutal Gladiator's
weapons
can also be bought with Honor.
2handers cost 350, One hand + Offhand/Shield costs the same added, Ranged costs 350 and Wands/Relics cost 95.
So, normal classes will spend 825 (gear) + 445 (weapons) =
1270
Honor on the full gear currently available, while classes with ranged will spend 255 extra =
1525
Honor.
This may seem like alot, but if you level wisley it will be
no
problem at all. I didn't step outside of Stormwind (except from 1-10) until Outland time. 1-45 in WSG when it was Call to arms there, and 45-60 when it was (and still is atm) Call to arms there. In between the 2 call to arms i didn't play on that character.
The exp for winning a BG when it's Call to arms is
insane
. Depends on something, not sure what, but at low lvls (>40) you get
1/2 - 2/3 LEVELS
for winning! When it's not call to arms, i'd say don't go BGs.
And I got 4000 honor, the cap, at level 48. So, a piece of cake ;-)
The
Guardian's
offsets
(Brutal Gladiator's offsets) vendors has been accidentally removed by Blizzard. They have stated that they will come back, but no further information has been released. Let's hope it's soon.
The gems for level 70 PvP gear are still the old epic ones (Ametrine, Cardinal Ruby etc), and they really cost close to nothing at the moment, since 85s are using another type of gems requiring item level 300+
BATTLEGROUNDS
With the merging of battlegroups for arenas and battlegrounds, twinking is finally possible again. The problem since we got experience in BGs has been that if we chose to disable experience, we'd only get into BGs with other people who had done the same -
from the same battlegroup
. This made the queues take ages, at least for any higher bracket than 20-29.
But now they removed all battlegroups, so twinking in all levels should be possible again.
Another good or bad thing (up to how you feel it) is that in the 70-74 bracket pretty much all the players in the battleground will be 70 and have brutal gear aswell. Who'd stop their exp at 71-74?
ARENA
Arena queues will now also come faster. You have normal rating and MMR just like at 85. The only sad thing, in my opinion, is that they didn't put in a reward for getting high rating. So if you play arena it will be only to have fun and achieve a good rating :)
QUEUE TIMERS
I have only played a little on my 70 Druid, because I'm leveling me Warrior for it (60 when I'm writing this), but my experiences are good.
Wednesday 01.00 - 02.30: Arena queue time around 10 minutes, BG queue time around 10 minutes
Saturday 18.00 - 20.00: Arena queue time around 4 minutes, BG queue time around 6 minutes
Monday 04.30 - 05.00 Arena queue time 20 minutes ;) But even 85 queue timers are that long on the night to monday
These observations were made a little after christmas, so it wasnt
that
long since the release of Cataclysm, people were still gearing their mains and so on. Now i suppose it's even better, can't wait to see!
CLASS STUFF
I'll be saying some useful stuff about some classes (requests) but i won't list enchants. If i did this thread would be wayyy tooo looong :) Also, note that i'll not mention unimportant abilities.
Warrior
Warriors aren't really too good for 70 PvP'ing. Although they lack many abilities they got pretty sick damage at the moment. However, just saying that they are going to be nerfed in 4.0.6 with the merging of CDs of
Charge
and
Intercept
. They then can expect to be kited alot.
Warriors lack
Heroic Leap
(even more kiting),
Collusus Smash
(effectivley reducing your dmg quite a lot),
Heroic Throw
,
Enraged Regen
(Also reducing the survivability) and
Shattering Throw
(mainly for arenas).
Warriors should gem
Crit
in yellow,
Crit/Str
in red and
Crit/Stam
in blue. The reason for all the crit is that the 80 epic gems are kinda OP for a 70. And crit scales very good, in addition it's what 85 Warriors go for. There really shouldn't be much discussion on this one :)
Arms BG spec
Arms Arena spec
- swap
Field Dressing
with
Imp Hamstring
if you're going with a class that can't heal. Keep it if you're going with any offhealing spell class (no enha, feral, protpala, ret)
Prot PvP spec
Fury PvP spec
- last point naturally
Single-Minded Fury
or
Titan's Grip
. You can also swap
Blood Craze
with
Die by the Sword
for arenas.
I think all the specs are good, but fury is very hard to play.
Mage
I play my mage and i think mages are awesome for 70 PvP. Mages have awesome dmg, are missing few abilities and the brutal gear looks awesome.
Mages are missing
Ring of Frost
(kinda bad for arenas and mass BG fights),
Invisibility
and
Spellsteal
. Also Fire and Frost mages lack
Imp Counterspell
Frost and Arcane mages should gem
Int/Crit
in yellow,
Int
in red and
Int/Spene
in blue.
Fire BG spec
Fire arena spec
Frost PvP spec
Arcane PvP spec
(if you really want to)
Fire mages should gem
Crit
in yellow,
Crit/Int
in red and
Crit/Spene
in blue. The crit because of
Ignite
and
Hot Streak
Personally i prefer fire. I like running around
scorching
and having totally awesome DoT dmg.
Blast Wave
,
Dragon's Breath
and
Blazing Speed
in addition to having
Nova
gives you a way better defense vs. melees compared to the other specs. In a fight vs. a melee you should barley let him hit you, and thus
Ice Barrier
becomes much less important.
Arcane is also good, especially vs. casters.
Frost is good vs melees (and kinda bad vs casters) but people will QQ because you often don't cast a single spell with a cast timer in duels. That's why i'm not frost, so people won't QQ that much :)
Hope i didnt forget something or have any errors. If i did, plz notify me :)
And just if someone wondered, yes i got a main, yes he's good :) 2040 rating atm, Enha/BM.

Twinking is like going to an elementary school and beat someone up.

Yes before the exp. in BGs it was indeed. But now you will only face other twinks ;-)
And also, i don't really like to referring to it as "twinking 70", i'd say "70 PvPing" or something like that. because twinking is more when the gear will require lots of farming / gold etc, but the gear is easily accessible by anyone (with a little honor)

It does require farming, not much, but farming nonetheless.

Well unless you play ALOT and have no main (or you for some reason don't play on it), there will most likley be a Call to arms available to you before you reach 70, and as we all know, Call to arms is alot faster than any other leveling way, and gives you tons of honor.

That's only at weekend though.
The fastest way to level is questing whilst in a Dungeon Finder Que or Battleground Finder during CtA
Post by
ragnar1
Yes, mentioning the CtA because most likley one weekend you will get CtA and then you will get the honor needed, and thus you dont have to farm (unless you consider that farming..)

qft
Always gotten a much bigger thrill beating someone on equal footing. Killing someone that is undergeared in comparison really takes the fun out of the game.

Someone pays $15 to play at any level not 85
Must post negatively in thread discussing why it's wrong
This applies to extermianner and unbound (Starting off your Wowhead posting by ignorance is a bad start).
As for the OP's regards to rewards from arena, you can achieve Gladiator I believe at 70. Need to go fetch the link to confirm.

Meant unbound. I should have been more clear.

To stick to the topic at hand, somewhat well written post. Should go a bit more in-depth with BiS gear listing, since some of us like to keep the T6 4 piece by using SWP off set and one main set.

All of the gear below is buyable only in
Gadgetzan
,
Tanaris
, and are sold by
these
NPCs.
Brutal Glad's gear is also purchasable in the Dalaran sewers and Area 52...pretty much from any arena vendor.
Socket with northrend-quality gems and it's possible to create quite the twink set using this gear.
Also, folks crying about this post not only cannot read but probably got destroyed in 70-80 bgs by folks in Brutal gear, and both of those things amuse me.

Twinking is like going to an elementary school and beat someone up.
Not really. That analogy isn't even remotely similar. I enjoy twinking because I love making people nerdrage. I was in a 19 bracket on my pally about a week before the talent changes, and I went 42 and 2.
I don't think griefing people is fun. I just think that if people nerdrage over a game, it's hilarious.
When something irritating happens to me in-game, it's usually because a spell (I'm looking at you, dragons breath.) doesn't work the way I want it to. I mutter something resembling "Alright, cool. Don't do what you're supposed to do. That's fun" and move on. I used to get ganked in pvp by a bunch of people and get pissed. I'd then try to single out the people that killed me, which didn't work because my skills dull in a direct correlation to how agitated I am. So, I eventually learned to just go with the flow. That's how I got not-terrible at pvp.
I say not-terrible because I'm still not that good at pvp, now that cataclysm has hit. I preferred wrath, where everything was more edge-of-your-seat.
So if you're twinking, you can think of it as you very well could be helping people.
By the way, the allure of twinking isn't from killing all of the not-twinked characters, it's from being able to change the course of a match just by you being in that match.
Take that match with my pally for instance. The rest of my team was level 11's with no boas and for the most part 350 or less health. There was no way they would have won without me. However, 3 of them were healers. I ran around with 1500 health one-shotting everyone with a judgement and auto attack, all three healers on me.
I got wrecking ball, iron man, and grim reaper that game.

Thing is though is until the off-set vendors return, you need to run Sunwell to get any form of PvP off set items (I'm even resorting to using some PvE items for off set).
