This list contains items you should try to get before heading in heroics as a holy paladin. These items are easily obtained through reputation, drops, quests or can be bought (no profession specific items). The minimum ilvl on this list will be 325 and up. I've added Justice Points rewards as well due to the fact you couldve saved up some during WotLK.
This list is solely based on my own thoughts and experiences. Suggestions or bug reports can be done in this thread as well and I'll try to fix it asap.

Aren't there JP vendor L85 items that would be better?
Post by

I assume that JP items are considered "heroic" items.
That being said:
Bracers of Umbral Mending
Furybound Waistplate
Captain Hadan's Pauldrons
Legguards of Noon
Repository Gauntlets
Drystone Greaves
Peacemaker's Breastplate
I would not worry about pre-heroic gear since most of them, as can be seen above, are drops, with random chances to get them.

Why? You can get JPs from random dungeons, can't you?
By definition, that's pre-heroic.

70 a day.
Alternatively get 4 buddies and go do all WotLK HCs. They still give JP and far quicker to do than the new heroics. Hell go with 4 DPS and 1 healer, 100k HP pools means I doubt a tank is needed at all.

Hence the " "
Though apparently that's not the OP meant.

Except that you cant random into LK Heroics after 82...and the alternative implies you've found the four nicest, most patient people on your server who are willing to run/fly all over Northrend...instead of just waiting until said people (who, if they are of such temperament, have probably learned to be decent at their classes) hit 85 and the gear level req. and spamming Cata Heroics which Blizz said would give significantly more JP than LK Heroics.

Gauntlets don't go on your waist I'm afraid.
That being said, the wrist section is a bit lacking, not your fault, just... lacking:
Soulheart Bindings
Muffled Bracers
Weapon-Bearer Bracers
are all reasonable pre-heroic loot.

You can add
Diamant's Ring of Temperance
to the rings.
It only requires Revered with Therazane. You almost get that just by completing the Quests in Deepholm. And even if you don't, you have 6 (or 7) dailies at Honored you can do.

Your #2 trinket (apparently I can't link this morning) is, unfortunately, useless as holy. "Your healing and damage
periodic spells
grant..."
I too was saddened when I learned of this. Alas, we have many other options.

What about
Gearbreaker's Bindings
from H Deadmines?
Oh, and I don't see Relics on the list either. There is a relic from Vanessa VanCleef in H Deadmines as well that is good -
http://www.wowhead.com/item=63487
.
I also have
Pipefish Cord
, how does that compare with either of the neck pieces listed above, except for the Spirit gain? Mine has 120 haste on it, is the 112 or 100 spirit worth more? I'm still trying to figure out how best to weigh the stats. Is spirit better than haste and/or crit no matter what?

Tear of Blood
This makes a better healing trinket then
Gale of Shadows
and
Corrupted Egg Shell
. Best case scenario it procs every 45 seconds, you don't need to actively use it, and you don't risk losing some of the mana regen like you would with the egg, unless it procs at 100% mana.

Except that's heroic.
Tear of Blood
<-- non-heroic

And the relics:
Relic

Book of Dark Prophecies
#3
Spearwarden's "Lucky" Charm

I don't see how that's better'n the egg shell?
The egg shell is 475 MP5, while the shield exists. Eh, only ok. The second part's hot, though: "When the effect is cancelled, you gain 5700 mana"
I'm all about a free 6K mana for using a trinket. But that's just me. (Ok, the 2 min cooldown's annoying, but it saves me the cost of a Holy Light cast, gives me a little mana from the 475 mp5 while it's running, and then almost 6K mana when they pop the bubble. Where's the downside?)

I figure there must be an optimal setup to pull out of this, but we would need to determine which substats are best. To that end: do holy paladins love haste, or
love
haste? Mastery? Crit?
I haven't played the expansion yet (but will today!) so I don't know, but my assumption is that we would still prefer haste and spirit over crit or mastery. Is this the case?
Post by
TKitch
Well, since post 4.0 things have changed a lot.
Haste is still awesomesauce. But, Crit, Spirit and Mastery are all hot shizzle, too.
I personally am ranking Spirit > Haste > Mastery = Crit, as Mana is our biggest concern in this xpac so far. (Maybe that'll change once we get to ilvl 475 gear, but as of now, we needs manaz.)

I don't see how that's better'n the egg shell?
Assuming we're talking about the normal version (1290 Spi), and assuming you get the proc once a minute (assuming 45 ICD), that's 322.5 Spi average.
Assuming you place the Corrupted Egg Shell on yourself (because ~5k damage is worth less than ~3000 mana) it gives you an average of ~350 MP5.
Of course, if the time is shorter than 2 minutes, the effective MP5 will be increased.
Say, one minute, and it'll be 700 MP5, but I'll take the Tear of Blood for longer fights.
Post by
TKitch
but don't forget, you lose a chunk of your spirit when casting / in combat.
So that 322 is actually a higher number than you'll actually be using, making the egg shell look better still, since it give straight MP5 and then a mana bonus, too.
Edit: Currently my Holy Light heals for slightly over the 5K that the egg shell procs for, so I'd consider it saving 2200 mana from a HL cast, in addition to the MP5 and Mana boost. That's even better for the shell.

I don't have time to work the math at the moment (I will once I find the appropriate equation for spirit, most online resources are wayyy out of date), but here's the logic.
1710 spirit for 15 seconds every 45 seconds + 285 intellect which provides 4275 mana to your mana pool.
This improves how much mana you get back from replenishment, which also augments much more mana your spirit regenerates. Do not forget you will gain an extra 641.25 mana for each Divine Plea every two minutes (4275 * 0.15). This number is before raid buffs.
Both the intellect and spirit bonuses are affected by raid buffs, which further improve replenishment regen and base mana pool.
All of this is guaranteed without having to activate the Egg trinket, which occurs every two minutes, and the mana gained is directly affected by raid damage to the targeted player.
This is why Tear of Blood would be my trinket of choice.
Currently my Holy Light heals for slightly over the 5K that the egg shell procs for, so I'd consider it saving 2200 mana from a HL cast, in addition to the MP5 and Mana boost. That's even better for the shell.
That's true if all of our heals had a mana cost. They don't. A Word of Glory with 1 Holy Power currently heals for more than the trinket is worth for me. A Light of Dawn with any amount of Holy Power is worth much more than the Egg's damage shield. Go for the heroic Tear of Blood, fire and forget.
Edit: If someone can point me towards the proper math regarding all aspects of spirit and the relationship between intellect and spirit, it would be appreciated. It will be useful in updating my intellect thread for holy paladins.
