For those of you that clip your Penance because you are too eager to cast the next heal...
#showtooltip
/cast

I prefer just using the
Quartz
cast bar.

Should work fine for use with Smite. It'd probably be something like this:
#showtooltip
/cast Smite
ps- On a side note, I have no issues with Latency when using this Macro... just wondering where you are getting that info, Sinepse, or is it just from personal experience?

You see, you have a cast bar like this:
__________________
|__________________|
With No channel, you can only cast again at the end. So, each spell goes like
___________________________________
|______Smite______|______Smite______|
Latency would make that (say 20ms just to simplify)
----_______1500_____-----______1500_______
20|______Smite_____|20|______Smite______|
Total: 3040
Now, that's with Nochannel. Without it, you are allowed to "calculate" your latency. You can "pipeline" it into
----_______1500_____
20|______Smite_____|
________________----______1500_______
______idle_______20|______Smite______|
total: 3020
As you can see, Latency with a Nochannel macro cannot be "calculated" by the user. That means it will be factored regardless of your own reaction speed. Without a nochannel, you can "fight" Latency with your own reflexes.

Yeah, it was, before the edits. Now it's fairilly understandable.

You'll definitely want to be able to "pipeline" your spells like that, especially if you have higher latency. The Quartz cast bar will show a red highlight near the end of your spellcast, indicating when it's safe to queue up your next spell. The higher your latency, the earlier you can queue your next spell. With nochannel, it prevents you from being able to queue up your next spell while Penance is channeling, thus making your next spell take even longer to start casting. In the end, it would negatively affect your healing, and even more so with higher latency.

Proper UI setup to provide proper feedback on your casting, healing and damaging situation as it's happening plus experience with your spells and your current haste levels are all that are required to stop clipping your channeled spells.
Blocking yourself using nochanneling so you don't have to learn how to use your abilities is just laziness and self-penalizing, to boot.

What I'd really like is a macro for penance that would stop you from casting it if you have an enemy targeted, but would let you cast it if you have no target (aka hit yourself) or have a friendly target (a member of your raid/dungeon group). Can anyone help me with that?

Your opinion of course. I think Quartz and company are lame add-ons, IMO. In fact, I only run with 2 add-ons... macros cover the rest. Nochanneling macros dont tell you when to cast a spell, when to push a button, etc.
Besides, if you really need to do something else like move out of the poo, you can. It's not like your locked into a cast sequence and can do nothing else.
Of course these are my opinions, you are welcome to your own and why you think.
