I recently read the Darth Bane trilogy from Star Wars, I found them a very nice read. My other recent readings have been parodies (The Soddit, Barry Trotter etc.). Entertaining, but not that superb tbh.

I also really liked with the Darth Bane series. I just finished the
Red Mars trilogy
by Kim Stanley Robinson, it was
quite
good (sort of reminded me of Starship Troopers by Robert Heinlein, which is also a really good book -- almost nothing like the movie). In the non-Fantasy realm, I also recently finished a few of Thomas Paine's writings a few months ago, which were absolutely amazing (esp. Age of Reason and Rights of Man).
I'm going to have to buy a new book this weekend now that I'm done with Blue Mars, so I like where this thread is going =D

Tadaa!
I actually find

Yay for SG-1 lovers!
I'm a huge fantasy fan Lespaul, loved the Magician series. Busy finishing off George RR Martin's
Song of Ice and Fire
series. Also just finished the 13th book of
The Wheel of Time
series. Can't wait for Sanderson to finish that. Moving on to read the rest of Sanderson's stuff. Got some book vouchers for my birthday on Sunday and planning on buying as much as I can! Also a huge fan of Neil Gaiman (read every book he's written to date >.<). Busy reading the Sandman graphic novels.
Maybe I'll join you guys on Lightbringer (if my druid ever fishes up that stupid turtle :( )

It takes so long to watch a whole SG-1 Season,
I watched all 10 seasons and both movies over a 3 week period! Somehow I've yet to really sit down and star Atlantis but am thoroughly enjoying Universe.
So many people are comparing Universe to BSG... I think they have missed the mark just a tad... It's STILL Stargate in all it's awesome, it's just a serial rather then one-off version of it.
Also just finished the 13th book of
The Wheel of Time
series. Can't wait for Sanderson to finish that. Moving on to read the rest of Sanderson's stuff.
It is completed, however Jordan's wife is spacing out the releases. If you enjoy his writing you should take up
Elantris
as well as the
Mistborn Trilogy
.
For the George R. R. Martin fans... I hate the way he creates a character, gives it life, gives it an amazingly detailed back story... Just to have him killed out of hand. Sometimes he does not even write about the event itself... just suddenly jumps to a completely different perspective and writes about that characters death almost as an afterthought...
But, Eh, the guy only lives like an hour away from me >.<
Edit: If you've read the
Mistborn
or
Elantris
then pickup
The Belgariad
and
The Malloreon
.

I don't really like Richard Dean Anderson, so I never could watch SG-1. SG:U to BSG comparisons are, I think, mostly rooted in the fact that it's following the spirit of a more space-based character drama formula that was widely popularized by BSG.
Wheel of Time pissed me off and then Jordan died. I may never have the strength to finish that. I stopped after Bowl of the Winds or whatever it was. Same deal with Sword of Truth and Terry Goodkind.
GRRM, on the other hand ... reading those books is like drinking honey ... for me, at least. I mean, without the bad things that go with drinking honey. Erm, well, I enjoy reading them, a lot, at least. WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN WITH DANAERYS? JON NEEDS TO KICK SOME BUTT! ETC!
Any of you read
The Name of the Wind
by Patrick Rothfuss? New series (ugh), but it was very good, IMO. Waiting on #2. I also enjoyed
Anathem
, recently, by Stephenson. I never got into his Baroque Cycle books, but my absolute favorite of his other books was
The Diamond Age
. I liked that better than
Snow Crash
.
Thanks Paul. Will look into those.
EDIT
: For your edit, curly (grr). I've read Belgariad & Mallorean so many times I have lost count. Total classics. Elenium and Tamuli weren't as good, but certainly satisfying.

This is worth detailing: (214 Episodes at 44 minutes each) + (94 minute movie) + (97 minute movie) = 9607 minutes = ~160 Hours = 6.7
Days
of Watching, accomplished in a 21-day period; an average of 7.62 Hours per day -- Bravo =D

AT FIRST I WAS AFRAID! I WAS PETRIFIED!
We now know where the term "Out Of Mana" actually came from!
Some funny comments from us during our first visit to Shadow Fang Keep. The loading screen for it is full of win, and the place itself has been fully revamped as well.
First boss is an absolute bar steward but I think we may do a write up later about the place as a whole.
Your first image doesn't work mate :(
Lol @ the second image, it's so true ^_^
WTB boost in shadowfang keep on my shammy tonight! :D (date is off due to freezing weather)

The groundwork and general storyline is completed, yes. But the actual writing and making it a book is not finished AFAIK.
And Sanderson is doing one helluva job at imitating Jordan's writing.
Yeah - what I understood as well. And personally, (I feel like a traitor saying this) I think Sanderson is writing the series BETTER than Jordan did. His insight into the characters is incredible.
My copies of the Belgariad and Mallorean are very well worn :P Read them numerous times each >.<

It drives me nuts. He has no regard for the lives (or limbs) of his characters. But I still can't stop reading.
I'm busy trying to get a copy of the mistborn series (very difficult to get much fantasy here in South Africa) and have just finished the Chronicles of Conan :P
