Jaina and the attack from Theramore?
Return to board index

After watching the Jesse Cox video request, I've been curious of what exactly is going on with Jaina in regards to recent events.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmwyYDbUTbk
As it shows, although the new 'road' has been built from Theramore to barrens, where the alliance have driven the war tanks and brought the war to the barrens from here, the reason question is, why if Jaina was always been fighting for peace with the horde, has she just all a sudden allowed the alliance to use her city for this?
Seeing that she is infact in Theramore, I can only hazzard a few guesses.
1- Garrosh's horde attacked theramore and she gave into Varians word to allow him to use theramore as a staging ground to attack the horde.
2 - Varian did this anyway and overpowered Jaina's rule
3 - Jaina's gone rogue and abandoned all her want for peace.
The last ones the least likely, but I'm sure none jaina fans would like that, so threw it in.

3 - Jaina's gone rogue and abandoned all her want for peace.
nope, her gossip text on cataclysm is "we must avoid this war with the horde at all costs before all is lost" so, she still is commited to peace.
the reason for the militarization of Theramoore is quite simple really.
Varian declared war, and while Thrall didn't accepted it and simply took the stance "if they atack us, we defend" garrosh on the other hand took the stance of "you want a war u filthy pig? you'll get a war"
so, Garrosh's army and Varian's army are in a full-scale "Gloves-off" war all over the globe, and thus jaina has to fortify her city in the (very likely) event that the horde desides to atack.
she is just looking to protect her people, but she has not sanctioned any invations on horde territory, Taurajo was burned down by dwarves, and durotar was atacked by northwatch (wich has soldiers of kul'tiras who dont' exactly report to jaina under normal chain of command)
to put it in a nut-shell, Jaina is taking Thrall's stance on this war "you hit us, we hit back" but she isn't looking to actually invade and / or kill the horde at all.

Thanks for that, ha. I am now imagining Sarah Palin instead of Jaina in all of the cutscenes from WC3 and WoW.
My guess is that the road came before the explanation, as in, the developers wanted a quicker path for the Alliance to the Barrens instead of having to ride all the way up and across and then back down. There were also a lot of mid- to high-level mobs near the old road. If the new road seems safer for low-level characters, that's my bet: quality of life change that needed some in-game explanation and war always explains everything.

Theramore is still the largest Alliance port on the western coast of Kalimdor; makes sense that the Alliance forces would leave and attack from there. She's protecting her people first and for most, same as she did during the founding of Durotar; she still wants peace.... but she's not stupid enough to think that every Horde member thinks as Thrall does, and accepts that war is happening. And Varian wouldn't over throw another Alliance leader; if he did that, he'd be kicked out of the Alliance... because again, it's an Alliance, not the Varian army.

I like Palin, but don't compare Jaina to her.
No one was comparing the two. "Going Rogue" is the name of Palin's first book, so that's what made him think of Palin.
Back to the OP: Thrall wants peace with the Alliance, Garrosh does not. Jaina knows this, so I think two things happened.
First, Jaina fortified her defenses because she knows (from all of the Wrath events) that while Thrall wants peace, Garrosh does not, and knows he won't honor the "truce" or whatever it is with Theramore. She's not just going to leave herself open to an attack.
Second, while she is the leader of Theramore, Theramore is part of the Alliance, and Varian is the "leader" of the Alliance (I use that term loosely in this case). But more importantly, Varian is the military commander, and knows that the Horde under Garrosh will not hestitate to attack any Alliance forces, so he sent more Alliance soldiers to Theramore to bolster their defenses and launch an attack on the Barrens. And Varian can go over her head because he's the military commander. Whether or not he actually does this will be debatable until we know more.
Theramore is still the largest Alliance port on the western coast of Kalimdor
I think you mean eastern coast. ;) But really, I think come Cata Theramore will be the largest Alliance port on Kalimdor, period (maybe the new Ru'theran Village will be larger, but unlikely).

Untrue according to
General Hawkthorne
. Also, I'm not sure if the humans at Northwatch are Kul'tiran but instead from Theramore, to be sure we would need someone on Beta that could tell us what affiliation the humans at Northwatch have.

Sounds familiar with
this thread
. Let's keep it in one, shall we? (Also, in before obligatory necro-claims that will probably be posted there.
