Random live encounters with WoW players?

Hi guys, so... i was thinking about making a topic like this for a while. Got some stories to share, and i would also be interested in the stories of other forum members! :3
What this topic should be about? Well, have you ever just randomly met someone who plays WoW IRL? Has the meeting been interesting somehow?
In my country, it is not common to meet a WoW player, and when i do bump into some, i try to chat with them a little. So here are some of my experiences.
It was morning, and i was going to work from my girlfriend's. I was pretty tired, and my work was on the other side of the city. Luckilly for me, i only had to hop on a single tram, without having to transition anywhere. Since i knew i had about a 50 minute-trip in front of me, i just fell asleep (i usually fall into the kind of a soft-sleep when i travel by bus or tram. used to that). I woke up when someone, right in front of me, said "Spell Power". Now that is not something people would use in common conversation, especially in my country, which is not English speaking. So i woke up, and looked who was talking. Two guys, sitting right in front of me. After a few seconds of listening to their conversation, it was quite clear that they were talking about holy Paladin changes in Cataclysm. I wanted to talk to them, so i started like "huuuh, i would not expect learning stuff about Cataclysm in a tram, on my way to work". That caught their interest, and we started chatting. Turned out one of them was a priest that played on my realm, and the other guy only played on a private server. It was fun talking with them, they were mostly asking me about raids and stuff, because they have not seen much of ICC. So yeah, and then they got off the tram after a while. We did not exchange contacts or anything, it was just a nice encounter :B
Then i have had this weird one. When i first came to this job, i was interested if anyone in here was a WoW player. So... of course i went to the IT guys, who are like... 5 guys about my age. They were all like nah, we do not play, but one of our colleagues does... i have never seen the guy they talked about (i use to go to lunch with the IT guys regularly, so i was kinda surprised that there was one extra secret guy :B ). I went to talk to him. He was really... weird. I came to him all like "heyy, so i herd u play WoW?" and he was like "uhhhhhh, yeahh...", thats what kinda surprised me o_O He sounded like if it was awkward to talk to me, or what. So i asked him a few things about his char, turned out he was a horde warrior on my realm... but i have noticed that the conversation pretty much went like me squeezing out information from him... so i cut it, said bye, never talked to him again. Never seen him again, even. So odd, i really wondered why he acted like he did. Was he ashamed for being a WoW player?
I have also had a good chat with WoW players on the midnight sale of Starcraft 2, but that is probably obvious! Everyone there was a WoW player. Some guys even made official guild T-shirts, and there was a bunch of people from the same guild.
So, then i remember... once i was out with my friend, and we were like, in a pub, drinking some beer. I have noticed that there were a lot of young (about 19-23 young) guys sitting behind us right when we came to the pub, but i did not really pay attention to anything they were talking about, until someone in the crowd said "Sindragosa". Heh, yeah, thats a word that catches my attention easily. I figured they were having a guild meeting. I found it pretty cool. So when me and my friend were on our way out of the pub, i stopped by, and i was like "hey, so you guys are having a guild meeting? Which realm?" Of course they played on my realm. But they were horde. When i said i was an Ally, they were all like "bawwww", then one guy asked if i was a gnome, i said "oh god, i do have Some dignity!" So i asked them which guild they were from, they told me (i do not remember), and said that they are a small guild, that i probably do not know them... before i left, i told them that some larger and "better" guilds could be jealous of how friendly these guys were.
And my last story! Kind of a bad experience, and there was no chatting this time. I was on my way home from work, and i stopped by a kiosk to buy a kebab. I was wearing my WoW-Alliance shirt. Then these five kids were passing me by, and they noticed my shirt. WoW kids. I would say about 10-14 years old. You know what they did? They stood behind me in the queue, and the proceeded to trash talk about alliance all the time it took me to buy my kebab o_O They were pretty silly, this one child was like "So after i go home i am totally gonna go kill those stinking allies..." and the other kid was like "Yeah, by the way, whats your arena rating?" and the first one was like "500... i am farming for my Wrathful set." ...yeah. I had no idea what to do. Arguing with five kids would not lead to anything, they would not care about anything i would say, and just mock me all the way. I sure could beat them all five into oblivion, but that is not really the wisest thing to do when there are many people around. I just ignored them. But seriously, the kids were so much into the game, that they actually mocked a real living person just because of a shirt. I had mixed feeling about that. What will they become when they get older?
So, yeah. Those would be my stories. Have you people had any similar experiences?
(also, sorry for my english D: i must have like a billion grammar errors up there)

Recently I was at McDonalds, and the guy in line behind me had a Horde hoodie. I said "Nice jumper!" and he was like "Meh".
I was perplexed, so I walked away. I always look forward to meeting fellow players, but some of you need to learn basic social skills!

I met a girl in an icecream store with a warrior shirt. She was annoyed because I play Paladin/warlock.
I also found out that all the math teachers at my old junior high and one at my high school played WoW.

Was on a plane, dreading an 8-9 hour flight. Flanking me were two pretty old and pretty chatty women, who apparently had a terrible lot to say to each other. Just as I was giving in to despair, a third one came by and asked me if we could arrange something so the three of them could sit together. Happy to excuse myself from their company, I switched seats with the third lady... only to find myself sitting next to some guy around my age who (as I quickly discovered) also plays The Game. Not as much to provide an adequate match of wits for a lore guru like me, but enough to kill at least 3-4 hours. Slept a little, talked about music a little, but finally arrived in Paris.
On a similar note, today in my physics class I heard 3-4 people behind me talk something about StarCraft. Couldn't quite join, as the class was starting, but I'll catch them some time.

I was at Best Buy looking for a PS3 game then I just heard this person on the phone randomly talking about how she was so smart by preordering Cataclysm and going there at midnight because no one else will think of that.

FOR THE HORDE ! !

I don't think that's poor form, to be honest. Despite what you might think, he is under no obligation to talk to you or entertain your gaming tastes. If a random person came up to me and told me and my girlfriend that we had a nice umbrella (once of those black on outside, sky-blue-with-clouds on inside), I'd probably tell them to get lost / get out of my way / abuse them for interrupting a private conversation, to be honest.
Something about social networking has made it somehow 'allowable' to insert oneself in other people's lives, without their consent, and that it's somehow 'rude' to reject such attempts. No, I don't want to add you as a friend on Facebook, no I don't want to conform to your behavioural standards just because it's 'cool', and no, I don't want to talk to you for hours
just because
you happen to share a minor interest of mine.
Of course, if there are other factors at play that are conducive to interpersonal relations, then that's a different story.

Your situation is completely different. Cambo attempted to start a conversation with a person waiting in line, which is completely different than walking up to a stranger, not pausing for a lul in conversation and saying "HAI I LIK UR UMBRELA PERTY LADEY".
insert oneself in other people's lives
That's just idiotic. Trying to start a conversation with a stranger wasn't allowable before social networking? And here I was thinking that social networking was so that people COULD start talking with people they don't know.

You have never met one of those grannies that just decide they want to talk to you, and keep talking and talking until you run away, or start talking back? They can be kinda cute sometimes. Mostly, they are just annoying, but sometimes it can sprout into an interesting conversation.
Something about internet has made some people more isolated, and less open.

You both missed my point. There is nothing wrong with starting a conversation with someone random. There is something wrong with assuming that they're socially inept because they don't want to talk to you.
Cambo initiated a conversation. Stranger said 'meh', shortform for "I don't care, and I don't want to talk to you". Cambo assumed that stranger lacked basic social skills, when stranger actually wanted to communicate just that - "I don't care, and I don't want to talk to you." Again, the issue I have isn't that Cambo started the conversation, the issue is the assumption that the stranger was somehow required to care enough about Cambo and his question to give him more than a one-word response.
Something about internet has made some people more isolated, and less open.
Probably because the internet has made people more vulnerable by creating open space for people to intrude upon. Closing up and being less open is a direct result from abuse of that open space. You wouldn't troll someone in real life for expressing an opinion, for example, but we see regular examples of such behaviour online, leading people to feel less welcomed and more isolated.
