My rogue has always been on a
PVE
server. I'm seriously considering moving it to a
PVE
server and leveling cata that way.
I can't believe you guys missed that.
But in all seriousness I played a shaman on a PvP server and at the higher levels people have a tendency to go about their business, but if you level from level 1 be prepared for
some
copious amounts of ganking.
And no you don't need PvP gear for leveling.

Your results may vary from server to server. On EU-Ahn'Qiraj, we outnumber the alliance so much it's not even funny anymore. Finding an alliance player outside dalaran is like searching for the proverbial needle.
Anyway, if you're that paranoid about being ganked, stay in-town and level through the LFD system. Won't be as efficient as questing in between runs since you have about 15 minutes nose picking time after each run while the system struggles to fill in the tank and healer roles in the group, but hey, at least no gank, lulz.

I have always been on PVP servers, and only got ganked in Hellfire when each of my toons reached 60. Getting ganked never slowed down my lvling that much.

nothing can beat the feeling if leveling a toon in stranglethorn. with a finger always ready for vanish - sprint.

I've leveled two toons on a PvE server and two on a PvP. I have to say that the PvP servers were more fun to level on. Even though you have to deal with someone ganking you from time to time, that feeling you get stalking alliance filth and demolishing while leveling can't be beat and is a nice break to endlessly pursuing XP.

I wouldn't roll a rogue if I didn't play on a PvP server.
Levelling my rogue 1-80 was probably the most fun I've ever had playing WoW. You have a MASSIVE advantage in world pvp, and being able to go from questing to killing a few equal-leveled characters in PvP is awesome.

I take it you haven't levelled a paladin/warlock recently?
