35 Years Later: The Aftermath of the Destroyer's Fall (Open RP)
Return to board index
Post by
Skreeran
Thirty-five years have passed since the world was sundered, and it has been almost seventy since the unholy Dark Portal was first torn between the world of Azeroth and the red world of Draenor. Our world was never the same after that fateful evening in the Black Morass when the orcish Horde first streamed through the arcane gateway.
Since then, the Horde and the Alliance have fought many wars through the ages. Finally though, it looks as if peace may be possible. Living in fear of the monstrous dragon Deathwing the Destroyer, war between the two factions had been impossible. With Anduin Wrynn once again crowned King of Stormwind, and the wise Warchief Thrall leading the Horde, the two bitter rivals were able to join together to defeat their mutual foe. Deathwing, the ancient wyrm that terrorized the world for millennia, has finally fallen.
Since that day, fifteen years ago, the world has spent its time trying to recover from the long pain that it has endured, both under the Destroyer, and even before, the wars of mortals having left their own scars on the planet. Thura, niece of the great warriors Broxigar the Red and Varok Saurfang, has taken the position of Warchief of the Horde. Meanwhile, Anduin Wrynn, having taken back Capital City for the Alliance, has worked tirelessly to reunite the Seven Kingdoms of the Grand Alliance.
However, not everyone prospers. The New Forsaken, displaced from their homes first as exiles by the Banshee Queen, and then forbidden to return by the humans, have been forced to settle the Eastern Plaguelands. There exists a tension between them and the humans of Lordaeron, each fearing that the other will strike. A few emissaries have been sent to diffuse any potential conflict, but it has done little to quell the fears of the masses.
The fear of war besets the Shatterspear trolls as well. Few have forgotten the massacre enacted upon them by the elf Taelani, and following her escape, the Alliance has done little to try to bring her to justice. While the young chieftain Ji’jiri tries to keep a futile war from breaking out, his brother, Ja’kala, merely fuels the fire. Having lost his mate in the massacre, Ja’kala cares for little besides revenge. He is willing to do whatever it takes to bring his mate’s killer to justice, even at the cost of the entire village, and he is not alone. Dozens of his tribesmen feel the same way, and the balance is starting to tip towards war if something is not done soon.
The world has suffered greatly since the Dark Portal first brought the orcs to Azeroth, but many hope that the tortured planet may finally have earned some respite from the scourge of war. Whether this comes to pass lies squarely on the shoulders of the heroes of the world--some young and some old--and the decisions they make. Only time will tell if peace on Azeroth is possible. We begin now, in the aftermath of the Destroyer’s destruction…
Rules
:
This RP is a sequel to Azeroth 20 Years Later. It is set 35 years since Wrath of the Lich King and the start of Cataclysm. It follows a particular canon, which you can find
here
. If you have not read the first post of that thread yet, please do so before you start a character, because there are some events which have occurred in the canon of the RP which differ than those that happen in the retail game.
Please write your posts with this format:
Character: <Character name>
Location: <Place where your character is>
<Body of post>
Do not godmode other people's characters. This includes, but is not limited to, taking control of another person's character away from them (saying "Character A stabbed Character B in the chest" rather than "Character A lunged at Character B, trying to stab them in the chest") and actually killing another person's character without their permission (if you kill another person's character and they object, it will automatically be invalidated and people probably won't want to RP with you as much afterwards). In addition, please do not take advantage of another person's courtesy in not godmoding by making your character invincible. Know your characters limits, and don't dodge/parry/avoid all of your opponents attacks, it really can become annoying after a while and make people not want to play with you.
Be polite. No one likes a sore loser or a mean winner. Remember, this is a place for friends to gather and have fun roleplaying. Causing a bunch of drama outside the roleplay only ruins the fun for everyone. If you object to something that happens, politely voice your objection in the Aftermath Q&A and explain your reasoning. If someone objects to something you did, consider what the other person has to say, and if you feel that it does not need to be changed, politely explain your reasoning in the Q&A. Please don't fight or get into a flame war. If someone is being unreasonable, the situation will usually solve itself when people stop interacting with that person until they learn to be reasonable. Please don't start a flame war over it.
Lastly, have fun. If you're not having fun, no one is forcing you to keep playing. You should not feel like roleplaying is a chore. If it's not fun, you can stop. However, remember that every RP has its dull moments, and often, you will find that if you just push through the doldrums, you'll find that there is still fun to be had on the other side. Don't feel committed to posting if you don't want to, but you shouldn't give up too easily either. You'd never know what might have happened if you hadn't quit.
You may post now!
Note:
Adams, if you want to write up your own intro to the RP, that's totally fine. For all intents and purposes, this is your thread, and if you want to write up an intro like you did for A20, just post it in the Q&A and I'll edit it in. I'm just getting the RP started because if we delay it any longer, it will just end up falling flat with no one left interested in doing it.

Character:
Skreel Shadowbender
Location: Capital City
Description: Skreel Shadowbender is the head priest of the Church of the Forgotten Shadow, and has volunteered for the role of ambassador to the humans of Lordaeron. He regrets losing the Undercity to the Alliance, but he understands that it was a necessary sacrifice if peace were to be made. He fears, though, that the humans, out of fear of the Forsaken, will continue to push for war to finally wipe the undead out completely.
Skreel walked down the halls of Capital City, his face obscured by his thick cowl. He walked now without his typical covering of fog-like shadow that normally covered him. The humans still feared an misunderstood the Shadow. He hoped to fix that one day.
Right now he was walking with a purpose, for he was needed at a particular meeting. There had been a lot of meetings in recent days, mainly about land and war. Neither side wanted war, but both sides wanted land, and it was his job to represent the Forsaken on those matters. He hoped that in doing so, he could work to eliminate the stigma that surrounded his people in the minds of the humans, and perhaps solve many of these problems at their source.
Character: Mary Swiftarrow
Location: Stormwind City
Description: Mary is the wife of Linmarion Swiftarrow. She is a human, born in Southshore and recently relocated to Stormwind, where she had lived for most of her life in the Orphanage. Her parents were kill by worgen when she was young, and she had been taken to the Orphanage soon after. She has short red-brown hair, and was blinded by a warlock shortly before the Destroyer's fall.
"Glad to see you're back," Mary smiled, moving to the door to embrace her husband. "Tandred's out back. I'm sure he'll be glad to see you."
Character: Taelani Elmwood, alias Shiara Thistlewood
Location: Stormwind City, The Park
Description: Taelani is a night elf woman, who used to be a priestess. She was captured and brutalized by a group of Warsong orcs during the last Horde-Alliance war, and bore a half-orc son as the product of that time. She abandoned the child, and grew to hate the Horde with a frenzied passion. This passion led her to wrongly kill a great deal of Shatterspear trolls, whereupon she was stripped of her title as a priestess, and forced to run for her life to avoid the troll's justice. She has since adopted a new identity.
Shiara walked down by the park, leaning on the edge of the Moonwell there. She'd heard her name--her real name--spoken by a rogue in the inn the day before, and it had unnerved her. Someone was out to get her, and she was terrified of what would happen if they found her. She had to lay low for a little while, or else people might get suspicious.

((Since it's tagged as Open, I'll jump in. In case my description is against the plot of A20L, tell me, please.))
Character:
Valentine Silvermane
Race:
Human
Class:
Hydromancer
(a.k.a. Water Mage)
Age:
67
Appearance:
6'1'', pale skin, silvery gray long hair in a ponytail, large deep blue eyes, an azure silk bandana that covers lower half of his face, blue/silvery longcoat that does not hinder his movements, a long battle staff that is, essentially, just a thin (yet Elementium) pole.
Description:
Calm (most of the time, at least). Calculating. Brooding. Ambitious. Ruthless. Egocentric. Power-hungry. All these match Valentine, who during his time in Kirin Tor have been nicknamed
Frozenheart
by many. When he was five a devastating fire destroyed his parent's home, killing everyone inside - except for him. The experience grayed his hair forever and left some nasty scars on his face, forcing him to wear a mask nearly all the time. Valentine survived the fire invoking his hidden magical abilities and creating a wall of ice that protected him just long enough for a nearby Kirin Tor mage to notice the smoke pillar and a magical outbreak. Since that time, Valentine acquired a deep affinity with water and ice and even deeper hatred for the Pyromancers, since he always believed that a fire of such magnitude could only have magical origins. During the Deathwing accident Valentine descended into the Abyssal Maw and knelt before Neptulon himself, participating in the Elemental Lord's battle against naga that tried to succeed him. As a token of gratitude Neptulon blessed Valentine, granting him an extended lifespan and even greater connection
to water. Now, the Hydromancer wanders across the world, sometimes heeding the call of his Elemental Lord but mostly following his own agenda.
Location:
Stormwind City, The Park
Valentine walked through the Park towards the moonwell.
"Water... claimed by Elune. One may think that made it even more powerful... but few know about the moonlit chains." - he said quietly, but not quiet enough for a Night Elf woman nearby not to hear him.

Alnerigo "Flamehowl"
Race: Former sin'dorei, now worgen.
Class: Pyromancer, Demonologist
Description:
Tall for a worgen, his fur is dark gray. His eyes are glowing green, a remnant of his sin'dorei heritage. Turned into a worgen by Blackbite, and later had almost all of his sin'dorei self sucked out, he managed to retain that small shard and slowly cultivated it through his power, and eventually became able to transform into a blood elf again.
He is calm, yet prone to angry outbursts. He is cunning and calculating, yet since Lighthowl's death he has dropped back into his old ways as a demonologist and arsonist.
He is disillusioned with all forms of government, and has severed ties with everyone he once knew, except for Fundaen Orebeard, the son of the Frost Knight. They stayed in contact until Fundaen's disappearance just before the death of the Destroyer. Flamehowl hasn't given up hope that Fundaen lives, yet 15 years of no contact is slowly wearing at him...
Teldrassil
Flamehowl had heard rumours of a Worgen named Nightbane, the same name that Lighthowl's adopted pup. He strode along the vine covered paths, the weaker of which turned brown under his feet, burned.

Character: Shiara
Location: Stormwind City
Shiara's face twitched imperceptibly when she realized that there was a human near her. She had never particularly liked the humans. The had come across the sea with the orcs, changing her world forever.
However, for a long time, they had wanted to kill orcs, and that meant they were okay with her. They weren't night elves, though, and she didn't completely trust them.
Finally, she decided that it would be less suspicious to act friendly than it was to be seen avoiding attention.
"Pardon me?" she asked the human. "I'm afraid I don't understand."
Character: Mary
Location: Stormwind
"So how was your day?" Mary asked. "What'd you do?"

Stormwind
"This is a dead body of true water, embalmed by unholy light of the two moons... a mere vessel to carry on Elune's essence..." - Valentine continued, than glanced up and realized he was talking to a night elf. - "I beg your pardon,
kaldorei
. I guess what I've just said sounds both weird and rude to you." - he sighed, although that could be left unnoticed provided that azure silk bandana was covering his face for the majority of the past sixty years.

Shiara frowned, disliking this human more by the second.
"Elune is the goddess of this world," she answered back, annoyance in her voice. "You would be wise to show her the respect she deserves."

Sparkbolt
Character:
Aldos "Sparkhowl" Firestar
Location: Stormwind
Race: Half Human/Half Bloodelf
Age: 20
After hearing the last of his family had died Sparkhowl sunk into a rage and blamed the worgen half claiming that it was that animal that cursed his family to death. Now he stayes in his half elf form and has given himself a new name and serves the alliance kirin tor as a blood mage having chosen to use fire and has developed a twisted view on reality.
Aldos walked into Stormwind entering the trade district. "It's not that great." He muttered remembering what the merchants at Pyrewood had said about the rebuilt city and it being better then ever. As he walked he patted his core hounds shoulder. Pyro had grown and now was as tall as Aldos shoulder. "Once we get the package we'll get something to eat." He said and Pyro barked causing a few people nearby to jump.

Stormwind
"Who am I to question the nature of the single most powerful being in the history of our world? On the contrary, I acknowledge the terrible power behind the White Lady and her priesthood. I just imply that these constructs, while granting your folk with a thousand of possibilities to further the cause of the Night Warrior, might lock you from tapping into the primal, true nature of water."
The Hydromancer opened a large flask of water that he carried with him at all times and a liquid serpent flew out of it, doing several circles around him before nesting on his shoulders. Patting its semi-transparent head, Valentine finished.
"The glorious - and yet, merciless - white shine of the Mother Moon casts an even deeper shadow, where secrets untold dwell."

Character: Shiara
Location: Stormwind City
"We are Elune's chosen people," Shiara answered proudly. "To turn away from her would be the greatest treason we could commit. Our devotion to the Goddess is what separates us from the likes of the hated Blood Elves, who seek only power. I... have great respect for her priestesses."

"Few there are among the ranks of Alliance that do not. Understandable your pride is and envious are those not guided... Always a pleasure - speaking to a member of a race so ancient. So let me introduce myself - I am Valentine Silvermane." - bowed the Hydromancer. Now he was speaking in Darnassian, as a token of respect.

"I am Shiara Thistlewood," Shiara answered in Darnassian, noting that the human spoke language. She did not like others speaking the tongue of her people, but she wasn't going to tell him that. "So... where did you learn hydromancy?" she asked, changing the subject. "It is not often I see a human that follows your particular school of magic."

"Dalaran, naturally. It held knowledge from all across this world... Before it fell to Deathwing, of course. Many fires of chaos had I extinguished that day, many flame-breathing lizards had I strangled... But in vain." - Valentine shuddered, reminiscing.
