WoW.com recently did an article on the evidence left within Wrath's files (models, text, sound files) that there was meant to be much more to this expansion than meets the eye.

One of the more interesting concepts that keeps appearing was the idea of "chapters" for Wrath. Seven chapters were planned for this expansion, each relating to a major content patch. This idea was eventually scrapped around the inclusion of levels 78-80 in the beta.
Being forumgoers and having way to much time on our hands by definition, let us speculate about what these chapters might have been, presented in patch-notes-blurb version.
CHAPTER 1: THE WRATH GATEAfter the battle of the Wrath Gate, open war is declared between the Horde and the Alliance. As tensions mount, the Argent Crusade desperately tries to broker a peace and turn attention back to the Scourge, establishing the Argent Tournament to select worthy candidates for the Crusade's march on Icecrown. The Alliance and Horde, however, both lay claim to the resource-rich Isle of Conquest, and the conflict turns bloody. All the while, the dark specter of the Black Citadel, Naxxramas, looms over Northrend.

CHAPTER 2: THE DRAGONFLIGHTSAs a brittle peace is found between the Horde and Alliance, new conflict erupts beneath Wyrmrest Temple. The Azure and Obsidian Sanctums, long safe havens for the traitorous Blue and Black Dragonflights, are alight with battle. The twisted experiments of Deathwing's servants to create a new flight have finally come to light, while the brazen Blue Aspect, Malygos, reveals that his Sanctum holds the key to his true location. Meanwhile, Brann Bronzebeard of the Explorer's League has discovered two Titan artifacts that could hold the key to opening the lost City of the Titans, Ulduar.

CHAPTER 3: SECRETS OF ULDUARWith the two titan artifacts secured, the Explorer's League, led by Brann Bronzebeard, began an incursion into Ulduar. They discovered, however, not the City of the Titans, but the ancient prison of an Old God, Yogg-Saron. With the Horde and Alliance unwilling to help, the League and the Kirin Tor must fight the God of Death alone. Even beyond this threat, however, are whisperings of an emissary of the Titans themselves, sent to judge the world of Azeroth. Only time will tell what his choice will bring. Meanwhile, the darkening Scarlet Onslaughts toils toward some unknown plan, and the Knights of the Ebon Blade have sworn to prevent it.
Content Patch 3.2CHAPTER 4: STORMS OF GUNDRAKStorms ravage Northrend. Their thunderous might blasts the frozen landscape like a horrific blight. Their source is Gundrak, holy center of the Drakkari Empire. With the deaths of the evil prophets who bound the Primal Gods' souls, their tormented spirits wreak havoc upon the roof of the world. Their terrible energies have possessed the long-dead Frost King Malakk, ancestral leader of the Drakkari. To free their spirits, the corrupt gods must be slain. At the same time, the Kirin Tor battle on against the Blue Dragonflight in Crystalsong Forest, working their way to the final battle against Malygos.

CHAPTER 5: THE NEXUS WARAs the death toll mounts, the Kirin Tor make the final push toward Malygos' sanctum. With his end will come an end to the terrible Nexus War that has ravaged not only the lives of many, but the very magical fibers of Azeroth. For the good of the world and magic, the Spellweaver must fall. Alongside this conflict, the free Nerubians of the Sundered Obelisk work to liberate the outer reaches of their ancient home, Azjol-Nerub.

CHAPTER 6: LIEUTENANTS OF THE SCOURGEThe Vrykul, the Scourge's barbaric warriors, swell in number. As more awaken from their ancient slumber, more are judged worthy of becoming Ymirjar, their honored warrior class - and the Lich King's personal guard. The Ymirjar work tirelessly to awake their ancient king, Ymiron, from his eternal sleep. The Spiderlord, Anub'Arak, also returns, to claim ownership of Azjol-Nerub once more. The free nerubians, however, fight the Crypt King's will.

CHAPTER 7: FALL OF THE LICH KINGThe time has arrived. One by one, the Lich King's allies have fallen. The Argent Crusade and Knights of the Ebon Blade have banded together to defeat the Lich King and bring an end to the Scourge. The terrors of Arthas Menethil's dark citadel will not go out without a fight, however. The perilous journey to Icecrown Citadel's dark summit will not be easy. As the Lich King's end draws near, his servants grow more fearsome. Jaina Proudmoore and Sylvanas Windrunner work to find Frostmourne and destroy the vile sword.
