Clickers vs Pressing numbers/letters/function keys
Return to board index
There is one dispute I see on Youtube all the time when watching World of Warcraft videos: "Omg! He is such a clicking noob." Okay, will somebody explain to me what the big deal is about a person using a mouse to click the spells? And what is so "pro" about using numbers, letters, and function keys on your keyboard to cast spells? I have asked many of my friends on W.O.W, but none seem to know the difference and think both are good, just depends on your playing style, and I believe this too. But will somebody give their view on this subject?
If you use the mouse exclusively to cast from your bars then you can't turn fast. Or you switch to turning with your mouse and then you can't cast while doing so.
I was a "clicker" for a while, but I know use keybinds, and I don't even think about going back. Keybinding allows faster reaction, since reaching out to hit a key is much easier than moving the mouse halfway across the screen. Also, using keys frees up your mouse, so you can use it to move camera/mouse over stuff while still fighting. If you are looking into keybinding I would recomend the addon BindPad, which allows you to bind a spell to a key without even putting on your action bar, as opposed to binding an action bar slot to a key, then dragging the correct spell in.
Edit: I didn't see toldu's post, since I didn't refresh the page till I submitted mine. He brings up a good point, mouse turning is soooo much faster than using a and d.
Hope that helped explain a little.
There's a 4 page discussion about this already.
To summarize: you won't succeed in PvP if you click.
I do a combination of both. I have all my main actions on the number keys (I'm a Warlock). Then I have Some other actions on my second bar that I use frequently rebound to F1-F5. The rest are spells I use infrequently, like all my various Stones, Minions, Unending Breath, Enslave Demon, etc. etc.
