I downloaded the wowhead client today and I'm getting the can't find path. I've verified that it is using the correct path. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Windows registry location for Wowhead Client options:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Wowhead\Wowhead Client\Options
If you're not familiar with the Registry Editor, you probably shouldn't mess with it. You can do some real damage in here unless you're careful. But if you feel like poking around, open it up and go to the key listed above. You'll see some stuff in it like Username, Password, and Preferences (your password is encrypted for security that's why it doesn't look like your password). There should hopefully be a string value in here named "WoW Folder", and the data for this value should be the full path to your WoW folder. If you don't have this string value, you can make it yourself by going to Edit>>New>>String Value, and naming it "WoW Folder" (can also be done for "WoW Folder Beta" and "WoW Folder PTR"). Then you can right-click on the value and click Modify. Just type (or better yet, paste) the full path to your WoW folder into the box that pops up and click OK.
Now the path to your WoW folder should show up in your Wowhead Client options the next time you open it. Yes, you'll still get the "invalid path" error if you try to make changes in the options and then click OK, so make sure the options are pretty much how you want them before trying this.
My Wowhead Client is *mostly* working now since I did this - everything has uploaded 100% except the ADB files, which are only at 40% for whatever reason.
Hope this helps. Or makes sense. Toodles.
I tried this solution, but in my case, the path is correct. The folder already exists, but still, I'm having the same issue ("Live World of Warcraft path is invalid").

After playing my new
Demon Hunter
the Wowhead Client is showing 0 items.

I think this is not how it is supposed to work, right?

I posted a Looter bug report before noticing this sticky thread. The bug report and a patch are
here
. I've been playing with the patched version locally for several days now; it fixes the bug described and (AFAICT) causes no other problems.

I am guessing that there is still no word on the fix for not finding the path. I miss uploading information. I know it is silly but feel like I have been doing so much lately that would be useful (mostly pet hunting). Anyway, hope to hear something soon.

Geting "Invalid status code: 500" for last couple of days when trying to upload data... starts to become annoying :/

Just know it's being worked on... and you're not losing any of the acquired data. It's sitting there, patiently waiting to be uploaded. It is not for naught.

It's surprising and disappointing how ancient this "Could not find your World of Warcraft Live folder" issue is:
www.wowhead.com/forums&topic=7833&p=3987978#p3987978
Someone was describing this same issue no less than four years ago, and still it persists? I wouldn't want that accomplishment on my coding resume.

You're talking about similar symptoms of completely different problems. As has been mentioned in this thread, we know about it and are working on it.

No, I was not. I was referring to the "thread rez" post immediately above my reply made before I found this thread - which reply you have now removed - that described to a tee four years ago the
exact
same symptom being discussed here (and four years after that thread's OP).
That comment was off topic for that thread
, but the fact remains that it described this same symptom four years ago and was never given attention, perhaps merely because it was off topic. Even in the process of reacting to me, you still failed to notice it and instead assumed that I was referring to the thread's OP. That nicely compounds the original oversight.
That thread rez was the canary, and it was missed. Now the miners are all dead and it's a retrieval instead of rescue.

I'm getting crashes 100% of the time when I launch the client. Windows 10 x64. It installed the addon into my addons folder but now I cannot run the client program to upload data. I have tried running as admin and redownloading.

Hi,
just encountered this
error
while trying to train Herbalism from npc named
Runda
in Razor Hill. The list of skills she offers to train in herbalism is empty.
It is worth mentioning that it is only Herbalism that pops up the error and is empty, if I try to train mining with her all works as expected.

I'm getting this issue as well.

Managed to get it t stop that message on mine. I work in tech support, so sorry if steps are a bit much, but just because it worked for me doesn't mean it wont work for everyone.
Windows 10 (upgrade from 7).
Had an old external WOW was on before, but did a clean install of wow on a internal SSD I got a few months ago. (Main OS on one SSD, WOW on the other SSD)
1) Tried installing, kept getting the "could not find path".
2) Browse to new WOW install (SSD)
3) "Not a valid wow install" error
4) Tried running as Admin.
5) Picked up the old location (on external).
6) Tried browsing, "not valid WOW install"
7) Ran as admin again, leaving at the old location (external)
8) Opened fine.
9) Attempted changing options.
10) Not a valid wow install
11) Decided to try to change it in the Registry Editor
*** IMPORTANT ***
As a tech support worker, if you are not comfortable messing with the registry, please don't.
12) Searched for old path to the wow folder (G:\Games\World of Warcraft)
13) Found two locations:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Wowhead\Wowhead Client\Options\
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Blizzard Entertainment\World of Warcraft\
14) Changed both of them to the new location (E:\Games\World of Warcraft)
15) Launch WOWhead client (not as admin).
16) No error opening
17) Options show correct location
18) Still get error if clicking "Ok" on options window
19) No error uploading
20) Exited client and renamed "cache" folder for WOW in the new location
21) Launched WOWhead client, showed no data exists (confirms it is looking at the correct location)

Hi,
another Windows 10 user here, I have the same trouble setting the directory
but there is more for me. After installing the client and restarting wow I cannot login. I gives me this
error
. Deleting the cache folder resolves it. This happens on every installation.
It looks like Blizzard messed up the wow client just as I installed the wowhead client. Still the path issue. Is this a general problem on W10? What can I do to help resolve it?
Cheers

The installation path in Blizzards' registration key ends with a backslash, where as Wowheads' one does not.
It is interesting that I have been getting error 500 since today morning, it seems that there is some kind of data overflow on the server side. HTTP 500 usually means that some server script has bugged out and the
error on uploading is on the server side
. Please check your web server logs for errors.
Yes, I use AVG antivirus and I already put it in its exception list. Stopping and deactivating the scanner yielded in the same error message.
Why does the wowhead uploader has a separate registry key for the game installation anyway? It should check the game registry keys for the game itself where it is located. Doing so, it would remove the year-old detection error.

Some notes:
- it seems your server script for uploading data seems not to know to do with the (new) cache file "spellreagents.adb" and falls flat on its face producing HTTP 500.

I too am getting the error others have mentioned, client can't find WoW path and when I try to manually set it, it tells me my WoW exes aren't valid WoW applications.

I'm having the same issue where my uploads fail with "Invalid status code: 500" and if I go to Options, it says "Live World of Warcraft path is invalid." In my case though, it is
not
uploading any data, so I can't ignore the error. How can I fix it?
