Hi all !
I've been a member of wowhead since a while and wanted to share my little experiment with you.
I will explain my wow background another day but just to say that I totally rebooted my account. Exception of bank alts and 2 low levels toons, ALL my characters were deleted (even the 80' and up).
Short explanation: I wanted the game to feel fresh again and I never liked gray zones so making a new account or using new servers would not be enough.
Anyway...
So I decided to try something interesting: running the iron man challenge but with a twist. I would allow myself ONE heirloom item ("grand Staff of jordan") and NO gear at all (not even grey stuff).
On Cenarius, I rolled a panda mage called "Nakedmage" to fit the challenge I gave myself.
Now I wonder how realistic is my project
. I should be ok until at least level 10 or even 15 but beyond, I'm unsure. Of course, this makes the journey exciting. Jut unsure if I can survive
running naked until end game
, following my twisted rules.
For those who do not know the rules, here they are :

So, what do you think of my project ?

Well, I' am now level 12, in Westfall and things are going bad. I simply keep missing anything higher than level 9 so I guess i'll have to modify my challenge rules.
Still, interesting experience so far.
Edit :
Finally, it was some kind of a bug. Logging in and out fixed the problem. Good ! I'll keep my little challenge as planned.

Doing challenges such as Iron Man can really invigorate your game during content lulls. Your idea has an interesting twist on the "traditional" Iron Man challenge.
If you are looking for a community of "Iron Man" challengers (as well as the related "Blood Thirsty" snd "Pacifist" challenges), I encourage you to check out
WoW Challenges
, there is a vibrsnt community there, with forums, leader board tracking and even a podcast!
Best wishes to you with your project!

Oh crap you reminded me I need to do this someday.
On a side note though, what would be nice is if Blizzard added an option to allow for this in-game somehow. Runescape does it and while it's a little different it lays groundwork for Blizzard to do something with WoW. Would also open the floodgates for even greater replayability by having more ways to play alts.

I'm bored as hell, so I think I'll take up the
Blood Thirsty Challenge
. Essentially, only use crummy gear, no heirlooms, no mounts, MINIMAL QUESTING, and you have to primarily level from killing things at your level or slightly higher.
This kinda reminds me of when Cartman led the SP boys into Elwynn and leveled up just through killing sheep. It should be fun and only mildly annoying. =)

As a little update, my character is now in Duskwood, one of my favorite place ever.
I'm having fun but
its getting a bit long sometimes
. I often need to cast Frostfire Bolt X 3 + X 1 Fire Blast to finish off baddies, one a at time.
General observations :
1/ I like the fact I need to cast Sheep once in a while.
2/ While questing in Redshire, I had to hid behind a a rock to avoid being seen by the Ettins, instead of killing them.
3/ Even with no armor, monsters damage is not that great. They hurt me more but not that much.
I intend to keep playing this character once in a while, but I want to play my others too. A bit a time, I'll finish my little iron man challenge one day : )
It's funny I never thought of that before.

I ended up making a gnome rogue on Zul'jin last night. Named her Fullfrontal since she's not allowed to wear any decent clothing. LOL! I went for a rogue since, at higher levels, she'll gain vanish and be able to get out of danger if she gets in over her head. Made it to level 6 1/2, then went to bed. She's still in the area around Ironforge, killing boars and channeling Eric Cartman's bad attitude with each one.

When you are done with that, try combining the Ironman and Pacifists challenge.
Good luck, I'm too prone to dying stupidly through lack of concentration to even bother to attempt the Ironman. I'd get to level 99 and fall to my death or something like that.
