Level 2 Mine offers:

Placing up to 14 work orders, one requires 5x Draenic Stone and produces a shipment of Blackrock Ore and True Iron Ore and occasionally some Apexis Crystal. It takes four hours for one work order to complete.

13 mining nodes which can be either be Blackrock Ore or True Iron Ore nodes (also chance for rich nodes) per day for mining without having Mining. Nodes also contain sometimes Draenic Stone and/or Primal Spirit. When mining the nodes, there's a chance to spawn Goren Protector which drops more ores and has also a chance to drop Red Goren Egg.

Second part of the mine opened which has five more mining nodes in addition to the initial eight.

You can also assign a follower with Mining trait to the building. Doing so increases the work order yield (affected by the follower level) and allows to loot Mine Carts from your mine. The carts can contain the following items:

Blackrock Ore
True Iron Ore
Primal Spirit
Preserved Mining Pick - Faster mining, only in Lunarfall Excavation / Frostwall Mines
Miner's Coffee - 20% more run speed for 10 mins, only in Lunarfall Excavation / Frostwall Mines
Arakkoa Archaeology Fragments
Draenor Clans Archaeology Fragments
Ogre Archaeology Fragments

EDIT: It seems you can currently get mining carts from level 2 Mine without the follower. This means the work order yield boost is the only gain from a working follower in the building. I'll monitor this and update the post accordingly when things settle down.

You can upgrade from Lunarfall Excavation / Frostwall Mines Level 1 simply by buying Garrison Blueprint: Lunarfall Excavation, Level 2 from Sparz Boltwist/Rezlak for 1000 gold (and of course paying the upgrade cost). No achievement/quest necessary.

To match other players speed boost skills in this lengthier level, Paladins with the Long Arm of the Law talent can make this macro;

/tar black rat

You'll automatically target the closest live rat which are everywhere and you don't have to be facing them. Really made the climb back up for my stones turn-in less tedious.

Miner's Coffee drops from mining carts in your Lunarfall Excavation / Frostwall Mines Level 2 or Lunarfall Excavation / Frostwall Mines Level 3.

Miner's Coffee and Preserved Mining Pick drop from the Mine Carts and each Mine Cart randomly contains only one of them. You will never get both items nor will you ever get more than one of either. There is one Mine Cart in each wing:
1. Central Entrance Area (with stairway Lunarfall Excavation / Frostwall Mines Level 1),
2. Right Mine Shaft (Lunarfall Excavation / Frostwall Mines Level 1),
3. Left Mine Shaft (Lunarfall Excavation / Frostwall Mines Level 2),
4. Central Mine Shaft (Lunarfall Excavation / Frostwall Mines Level 3).
So, the Lunarfall Excavation / Frostwall Mines Level 2 has 3 Mine Carts and, the Lunarfall Excavation / Frostwall Mines Level 3 has 4 Mine Carts. It is always random and some days you will get 4xMiner's Coffee and others 4xPreserved Mining Pick.

Miner's Coffee and Preserved Mining Pick each will create one UNIQUE stack of 5. The stack itself is not unique, in that you can split it into 5 separate items if you wish to do so, but you will only be allowed to carry 5 of each Miner's Coffee and Preserved Mining Pick.
This includes items in your BANK.

Miner's Coffee will not work outside of the mine. You can drink it and get the Miner's Coffee buff, but once you begin moving it will drop off.
(The icon graphic for Preserved Mining Pick is bugged and disappears from the cursor when moved.)
The Miner's Coffee buff will not stack with Miner's Coffee (so do not use more than one unless choice 3 below). The most you will get is adding 20% to the speed you do without it. If you are running at 111%, then after you will be running at 131%. Hunters, it does stack with Aspect of the Cheetah so 130% would then become 150%. Shamans, it stacks with ghost wolf 140% becomes 160%.

They nerfed Glyph of Ghostly Speed to not work indoors which includes the mines. For now you can shapeshift outside the mine and still retain the additional 60% speed in the mine (200%). The Miner's Coffee buff will then not stack.

When looting a Mine Cart and you are to receive a Miner's Coffee or Preserved Mining Pick and you already have the limit of 5 (bank included), you will get the message "You cannot carry more of that item."
I always click to auto loot and the first thing I know is when I get that message and the Mine Cart does not vanish after looting.
So you can:
1. Leave it,
2. Shift click the stack and Toss One out - and then loot it,
3. If it is off cooldown, Use One - and then loot it
It depends on your level of OCD and whether, like me, you are trying to best your fastest time (there are rules about carts for standardization). I was thinking of writing an addon that would time our stay in the mine, and be usable to document the FASTEST run on video.

Miner's Coffee and Preserved Mining Pick are to help reduce your daily stay in the mine. The Preserved Mining Pick buff has the same affect as gotten from the Peon's Mining Pick being in your bags. I carry the Peon's Mining Pick and throw the Preserved Mining Pick away.
Preserved Mining Pick gives a 10 minute Preserved Mining Pick buff and brings the cast time for mining down form 3.0 sec, to 2.0 seconds.
Peon's Mining Pick, obtained from Abandoned Mining Pick, brings the cast time for mining down form 3.0 sec, to 2.0 seconds.

Now let us all submit to Blizzard the suggestion to create an item that when carried in our bags will give us the same affect as the Miner's Coffee buff.

I propose the name:

"Draewind's Buckstar togo MUG"

21JAN2015 - MISSING Mine Cart --- You haven't been getting carts? There is a bug reported by some that are not getting carts on occasion. My horde toons do not get them half the time.
