Yes, we are definitely aware of this concern. This is similar to a response that I posted earlier, but we do want Wild to be a real and viable format. We want Wild to be a format that people can have fun playing. Let's try this out first and see how it goes. If we find that Wild is broken, we will fix it.
Ok, so I take this to mean (correct me if I am wrong) that there are no current preventative measures planned to control the access barriers being created? The rest of this post is based on this assumption.

What tolerances will you be working with? By this I mean currently I have never heard a report of, say, an R20 player facing an R17 player at any point in the season. Would that have to become a "norm" before measures are introduced? Would it be higher or lower than that?

This is concerning for me (even ignoring the above hypothetical) because if you wait until it becomes an issue to introduce measures, the damage might already be done. Your chances of "winning back" old wild players is far less likely than having measures in place to ensure the long term sustainability of the mode in place from the start.

If new players cant, at least somewhat, compensate for natural attrition then its doomed from the start. Yet, with these changes, it will be harder than ever for new players to overcome the entry barriers (for this mode). Sure, they might get a semi-competitive deck built reasonably cheaply, but lets face it no ones happy just playing 1 or 2 decks and when they see the costs involved in building even 6 or 7 competitive decks (they cant just purchase GvG cards to fill out their collection across ALL classes, they have to manually craft each and every card they want) do you honestly think they will go ahead? From Naxx alone you are looking at 3800 dust for the commonly used cards, let alone some of the more gimmicky concepts you may want to try...

Sure, the first "year" as you're calling them, will be fine. But its the year after that which concerns me when even more sets are cycled out of "production". It just becomes harder and harder and harder for new players to replace those that retire (quit) the mode, and leaving it until it becomes an issue is not very reassuring for me looking forward.

tl;dr Prevention is, and always has been, better than cure!

I guess all I can say to this is that we aren't sure that your concerns will really become problems once formats go live. It's very possible that we will be wrong and that real problems will arise, but we can't really know that until we actually try it.

In addition, let's say we agree with your concerns. Then the question becomes, what is the right solution? Unfortunately, we can't determine the right solution unless we know exactly what the problem is, and at what severity. Many of you have been great at suggesting a number of interesting changes that we could make to address perceived problems and those suggestions have all been noted.

Bottom line remains the same, we want to make sure that both Standard and Wild are fun and supported formats. We do believe that the versions that we have right now are pretty exciting, but it's entirely possible that some problems will occur once the formats go live. If problems do occur, we will determine what the problems are and fix them.
