The achievement just say collect 500 of them, which would mean you could get them from your garrison.

But mmo-champion claimed "The Level 3 version of this building is unlocked by completing the Draenic Stone Collector achievement, which requires you to collect 500 Draenic Stone from mining nodes."

So according to them, you need to mine it yourself. Which is bad for those who have for example engineering and not mining.

Non-miners: Can get Draenic Stone from within their level 1 & 2 Garrison Mine. You'll get it gradually every day.

Miners: Can get Draenic stone the same way as non-miners, plus they'll pick it up from ore nodes around Draenor too.

And it is account wide.

So with a couple of alts and/or a miner that's leveling from 600->700, you'll be able to get this achievement fairly rapidly. I expect it'd take week or two with no particular effort - I got it somewhat accidentally in 4 days via 4x alts with level 2 Mines + a miner leveling.

This achievement currently doesn't seem to update properly. I've mined around 600 draenic stone but the achievement shows only 360-something. Hopefully this will get fixed soon.

Edit: Just leveled an alt to 92 and built the garrison mine. After mining 18 draenic stone the achievement changed from 368 to 348. Something smells fishy here.

Note that while the achievement is required to unlock the plan, you have to be level 100 to see it on the vendor.

I got this Achievement, but did not see the plans in my garrison vendor's list (Sparz Boltwist) until I upgraded my garrison to Level 3.

In order to get the achievement, do I need to hold onto the 500 DS as I mine them, or I can I send them to toons that need them / use them?

BUILDING/ZONE	REQUIREMENTS/PLANS	CONTAINS
Level 1, Zone (A/H)	Level 92 + Quest (A/H)	Only contains mining nodes.
Level 2, Zone (A/H)	No level requirement. Quest Chain (A/H) + Plans (A/H)	Mine Carts (spell) become active.* More mining nodes and more work orders.
Level 3, Zone (A/H)	Level 100 + Achievement + Plans (A/H)	More mining nodes and more work orders.

*Despite the tooltip, you currently do not need to have any follower assigned to have access to Mine Carts.
This means the only current benefit to having a follower with the Mining trait assigned to your mine is higher work order yields (affected by follower level).

OTHER INFORMATION

The ability to mine ore within these garrison mines does not required the Mining profession.
The only benefit to having the Mining profession is the ability to mine ore OUTSIDE of your garrison. (Same goes with Herbalism).
