As the name of the achievement suggests, this is the continuation of the previous collection of raid drop battle pets achievement: Raiding with Leashes. The battle pets for this achievement will come from boss drops from Karazhan, Serpentshrine Cavern, and Tempest Keep.

Have a bad feeling that the Abyssal will be from the Prince...time to find some people to run Kara to get past Chess.

Edit: Though, considering the other achievement didn't have any of the pets drop from the last boss in the raid, maybe this one will be 'nice' and put the Abyssal on Nightbane or Netherspite instead, since Spite uses portals as well.

Speaking of Attunement, I still hope they reintroduce either a light, or an optional attunement (a quest storyline that takes you through some dungeons/scenarios, and then guides you towards the raid/LFR) slash an attunement for optional bosses.

Though with today's possibilities, even a non-optional attunement doesn't mean a hassle for alts, it could easily be granted by an account-wide achievement.

The sheer existance of this achievement brings utter joy to my heart. Not for what it is but for what it represents.

Methinks my hopes and dreams of there being something to the effect of "Raiding with Leashes: Ulduar Edition" are significantly more likely to come true!

Unless they change the Chess event and make Vashj less of a pain this is going to be a gigantic headache.
Edit: They couldn't bring Kael'thas to you, so they brought you back to Kael'thas.

Vashj is currently not soloable as a non-tank class as long as you aren't able to get tainted cores fast enough and so long as chess is blocking access to prince malchezar. :(

So patch 5.3 launched today and I was really excited to go around attempting to collect all of the pets for this achievement...

Luck was not on my side.

I defeated every boss on the list except for Prince Malchezaar and Lady Vashj... Not one pet dropped. I defeated each boss on my hunter toon (for kicks) and it was a breeze, but not a single pet dropped. I did not get the Big Bad Wolf for the Opera Event so I did not have the chance at the Lil' Bad Wolf pet...
So all in all, out of the seven bosses that could have dropped their pets, none of them did.

I strongly believe that none of the bosses are dropping their pets right now, but if any other players have had any of the pets drop for them please reply to this comment and say so.
If I am right, hopefully the rolling restarts on Wednesday will fix this issue.

EDIT: Thank you for replying! Alrighty then, I guess these pets just have a significantly lower chance to drop than the pets for the original Raiding With Leashes achievement.

Also don't forget to kill Attumen the Huntsman for a weekly try at Fiery Warhorse's Reins while you're at it.

And Ashes of Al'ar dropping from Kael'thas Sunstrider

Karazhan Tip: You need to kill Moroes to activate the Opera event (but no need to kill the Maiden)

It seems every pet has a secondary gimmick when summoned in the world. Out of what I've gotten so far...

- Netherspace Abyssal will stop to hellfire.
- Menagerie Custodian quotes Curator.
- Fiendish Imp is summoned through a red portal, occasionally you can summon Kil'rek instead of the regular imp!
- Lil' Bad Wolf takes a nap occasionally.
- Tainted Waveling transforms between being poisoned or cleansed.
- Coilfang Stalker fears nearby critters.
- Pocket Reaver fires off an arcane orb that explodes nearby.
- Phoenix Hawk Hatchling will spin and breath fire.
- Lesser Voidcaller rarely causes a wandering spirit to appear and roam around near you. Sometimes it lets the spirit pass, sometimes it dies!
- Tito summons a tornado, complete with a house and some other objects in it.
- Tideskipper farts the green bubbles that other sea giants do sometimes

That should be everything!

From my Karazhan runs today on 8 characters these were my findings:

Opera Event:
Got The Big Bad Wolf 3 times and a Spiky Collar each try.
Three times on the Crone and twice on Romulo & Julianne and no drop.

Curator all 8 runs and two Instant Arcane Sanctum Security Kit

Terestian Illhoof all 8 runs and one Satyr Charm

Only first 4 runs for Prince Malchezaar until I got the Netherspace Portal-Stone.

I decided not to do extra attempts on him because of the chess event. I'm a pet collecter not a masochist.

Edit: Did Big Bad Wolf on Opera event today and no pet. Not 100% drop from that event. Will still attempt to see if it drops from the Crone and R&J events. Since the Chess Event nerf this week I also did another run at Prince Malchezaar and got a second Netherspace Abyssal. Which I promptly gave to a friend who assisted me with 3/7 Vashj kills. I don't care what level you are she still hurts.
Out of 4 runs on SSC last week I'd only seen the pet drop off of Morogrim Tidewalker and none out of TK. Since the reset this morning out of 6 runs at TK I was able to get two Phoenix Hawk Hatchling from Al'ar, one each of Lesser Voidcaller and Pocket Reaver. Also I was, finally, after 3 attempts today for 7 total able to Coilfang Stalker off of Lady Vashj. After 15 total tries at Hydross I still was unable to get the Tainted Waveling. In anger I turned to the AH and found a crazy deal on one 1500g on Emerald Dream. Every other server I checked it was 6k-10k

Kara chess event is fun solo, pretty easy strat is be quick and jump from your first line. Get the soldier in front of the King and move 2 soldiers on either side of him to distract the waves sent in, keep jumping out to move the king out of fire. The priest is your best friend in this cause when you move the king up get behind him and just heal and use your shock to kill anything in front of him, the rest of your minions should be taking care of themselves. Fyi i didnt even use the mage he just sat there and sometimes casted lol

And as of 5/23/2013 the cores for Lady Vashj no longer root, was done with a 90 dk and 90 monk only after she got to 275 stacks :)

Unsure if this has been mentioned.

You can simply ask your friends/another collector to cage their pets, give them to you, use them, then give them back.

Counts towards the achievement, doesn't matter if you have them collected or not. (I swapped my Abyssal for the Void and guess what? Abyssal is still ticked!)

Based on personal experience and what experience I've read others have had I am going to guesstimate that each pet has about a 10-15% chance to drop.

Here are some numbers for anyone interested in knowing how often the pets drop.

WEEK 1
Opera Event: 20 attempts > The Big Bad Wolf kills: 10 - Lil' Bad Wolf drops: 4
The Curator kills: 19 - Menagerie Custodian drops: 3 (one of each breed)
Terestian Illhoof kills: 18 - Fiendish Imp drops: 3
Prince Malchezaar kills: 16 - Netherspace Abyssal drops: 3
Hydross the Unstable kills: 9 - Tainted Waveling drops: 3
Morogrim Tidewalker kills: 13 - Tideskipper drops: 0
Lady Vashj kills: 3 - Coilfang Stalker drops: 0
Al'ar kills: 13 - Phoenix Hawk Hatchling drops: 2
Void Reaver kills: 8 - Pocket Reaver drops: 2
High Astromancer Solarian kills: 13 - Lesser Voidcaller drops: 2

I am sorry that I didn't have many Vashj kills... I just didn't have the patience to try and solo her over and over again one toon at a time.
Next week I will just be farming the Opera Event, Morogrim Tidewalker, Lady Vashj, and all of the Tempest Keep: The Eye bosses. I will edit this with more numbers next week.

I kind of lost the impetus to continue grinding through Tempest Keep: The Eye, so I am sorry that I didn't have any more kills in that department. A Tideskipper finally dropped for me this week, and I just got a Coilfang Stalker a few moments ago. I killed Vashj five times in a row with a friend of mine. I HIGHLY recommend asking a friend to help you out with Vashj. Sure, it is definitely possible to solo her (I solo-ed her on my hunter), but if you want to avoid pulling your hair out and raging every time Vashj stun-lock-kills you in the third phase, an extra pair of hands goes a long way.

Since I finally completed this achievement today, I won't be grinding for these pets anymore. So I guess this concludes my "Kill-Drop Ratio Report."

Anecdotally, I had 9 drops this week out of 60 eligible boss kills. The plural of anecdote is data, right ;) ?

Had BBW once, naturally, Oz twice, and Romeo four times, which is just like what happened when I was running Kara as current content. If that pet is BBW only it's going to be a long time before I see it... at least it's not as painful as chess or Vashj.

I posted the following on the Karazhan page, hopefully it may be helpful here as well.

Now that 5.3 is live, this achievement helps us spend more hours in Karazhan. It is now farmable for even more reasons (not least of which have been Fiery Warhorse's Reins and some sweet transmog items).

However, if you've been farming it forever/long enough to get the items you want (and if you are very lucky, Attumen has been nice and given you "a vampire horse that is on fire" rather than simply attempting to disperse some petty rabble--you) you may be looking for the quickest path to try to get your own Instant Arcane Sanctum Security Kit, Spiky Collar, Netherspace Portal-Stone and Satyr Charm.

The only bosses/events you MUST kill/partake in are Moroes (to enable the Opera event), the Opera Event (for the pet!), The Curator (for the pet, also), Terestian Illhoof (yes...for the pet), the Chess Event (sad faces) and Prince Malchezaar.

You can avoid all other mobs and bosses and have a relatively quick run (given that the Chess Event doesn't sap your will to live.)

Once you get whatever pets you need Illhoof becomes optional but Opera, Curator and Chess stay necessary until you get the Netherspace Abyssal.

Hope this helps someone as I was wondering how to do this most quickly. I've spent more time writing this than running Karazhan today.

How to solo the Chess Event in Karazhan:
1. Speak to your King/Chief to start the event and buff your troops (Press 4) before stopping control of the gamepiece. Note: there is a debuff every time you leave a piece that forces you to wait a few seconds before jumping onto the next one. Watch for this and wait until its up or you will be clicking in vain!

2. Move the Pawns in front of the Knights one space forward (Press 1). Move the Rooks (elementals/demons at the outer edges of the board) diagonally where the pawns used to be. This brings their AoE within range of the main battle area in the middle.

3. Move the Pawns in front of the King and Queen pieces so that when Medivh cheats, you can move your King out of the fire. Note: always move him unless the enemy King is almost dead.

4. Jump on the Queen piece and melt the enemy King's face (Press 3) until the match is over. If he's not within range right away, don't worry he'll come to you soon enough. Typically, you will move your own King out of the fire once and the rest of the time you'll be spamming the single target spell until he's down.

5. Loot Dust Covered Chest now that the barrier is down and run upstairs for a chance at Prince Malchezaar's Netherspace Abyssal pet - good luck!

Other important bosses along the way:
Attumen the Huntsman --> Fiery Warhorse's Reins
The Big Bad Wolf --> Lil' Bad Wolf (one of several possible bosses you face after speaking to Barnes for the Opera Event)
The Curator --> Menagerie Custodian
Terestian Illhoof --> Fiendish Imp

I am delighted to see the implementation of yet another Battle Pet Achievement.

Not only does this give us new and exciting pets to collect but furthermore it revitalizes the old content giving us a reason to go back and experience those long forgotten raids.

I see no need to make a list of the pets & their locations as there is already a post doing so. (Just sort by rating and it should be listed first)

However, there are a few remarks I would like to make alongside some tips, so here goes:

Karazhan:

Lil' Bad Wolf - The Big Bad Wolf - As this boss is a random choice of 3 encounters, this can easily cause problems with you getting the wrong encounter and misings out on an opportunity for the pet. As you only get 1 shot, my only advice is if you are a class which can do it, then glitch the encounter to reset it. That is to say, Feign Death as a Hunter, or Vanish as a Rogue. Alternitively you could suicide and wipe it but bear in mind this will take a long time at level 90.
Netherspace Abyssal - Prince Malchezaar - The boss in itself is not challenge, rather it is the requirement of you to pass the Chess Event boss that makes this challenging. Assuming most of you are Solo'ing these raids, you will come across a difficulty in the Chess Event, which ideadly needs 2+ players. That is not to say this is a requirement however, as it is possible to Solo this boss but is infuriatingly hard. Personally I have yet to Solo the Chess Event and resign to unfortunatly skipping this boss. The best advice I can give is watch some YouTube clips to get your head around the sort of tactics used to win and then just practice & keep trying!

Serpent Shrine Cavern:

Coilfang Stalker - Lady Vashj - This battle is not too difficult but is quite long and tedious. The only concern you may have here is running low on HP. However, as all classes have a range of self-healing abilities, this should be managable with some minor changes to Glyphs & Talents.

Tempest Keep:

Lesser Voidcaller - High Astromancer Solarian - Again here, it is not the boss encounter which is challenging but simply a requirement to clear the trash. This must be strictly observed as otherwise when you pull the boss, the trash will aggro and cast a MD spell on your character, reseting the boss.

The droprate is fairly reasonable but in my opinion a little lower than the previous tier of raid pets.
As always do not forget for the pet farmers & collectors out there, you can boost your chances of looting the pets by running the raids multiple times on all of your Alts - this may seem obvious but it's amazing how many people overlook this.
As I'm sure you have gathered, all of these pet's bosses are easily solo-able at 90 and it is my belief that Blizzard intended this to encourage returning to the older raids. (with the caveat of the Chess Event)
If you are stuggling to get the pets to drop yet are desperate for the Achievement, or reward pet, then another option is to trade the caged pets with other Pet Collectors who do have them, in order for you to satisfy the requirements of the missing pets. Obviously this involves an element of trust as you are barganing on any other players returning your hard earned pets.

Well that's all there is to it ... there are far less complications than with the previous tier of raiding pets.

for all those rolling their eyes at the prospect of having to clear the chess event to get the netherspace abyssal, fear not! here is an AWESOME solution to the dreaded chess event. i've been running kara since 5.3 came out and only once did i have to restart out of doing it multiple times on each of four characters

I found that soloing the chess battle is not as hard as it sounds. True you have to control the "king" piece but having the whole board come to you kinda works in your favor. I play as Horde (and I'm assuming it's the same basic "attacks" for both sides) just buff up your team until there is someone within striking range. Then just swing your sword until they're dead. Sounds stupidly simple but that's been my strategy and it's worked like a charm. It can take a couple of times to finish it but for the most part I get through on my first try.

You do NOT have to loot them from the boss to get credit. I bought several through AH, added it to my pet collection and still got the achievement.

Kara drop rate is very high for everyone but Prince. SSK and TK drop rate are abysmal.

It's worth noting that each item is soulbound, but each pet can be recaged and sold (or purchased). It's also worth noting that if you buy one of these pets recaged it counts towards the achievement. So it is possible to get this achievement without ever running a single raid.

I was finally able to get this achievement today after farming various raids on nearly a weekly basis for over a year.

Can't wait for Raiding with Leashes III during WoD.

2015 update - Patch 6.1 - New battle pets have been added to Black Temple, Caverns of Time: Hyjal Summit, and Sunwell Plateau along with a new achievement, Raiding with Leashes III: Drinkin' From the Sunwell to collect them all. Completing the achievement to collect all the new Battle Pets will award a Naaru pet.

is it required to finish the first part of Raiding with Leashes in order to be able to loot the pets from the second part?
I am asking cause I am in 4th week in a row without a single pet looted from TBC raids, I guess I am just extremely unlucky but just to be sure I want a confirmation that I am not doing for nothing :)

Have been running Lady Vashj now for countless weeks but it just won't drop. Annoying because it's the worst boss to solo as a Feral Druid aswell.

If you are an engineer, you can jump down the Serpentshrine Cavern elevator and use Goblin Glider once you get to the opening. This allows you to fly right to Hydross and skip the trash. I highly recommend it.
