At level 70 none should require grouping. I was able to get all 50 and I'm not a stealthing class.

I found the one in Stratholm the most difficult to get for my Hunter. I only used feign. So it's doable, but I would recommend invisibility pots. I found the Ogrimar one the most fun to get as I was being chased by a whole string of NPC's and players but managed to get the coin before getting slaughtered. :)

This will be a lot harder with the lvl75 and 80 elite guards added to the capital cities. (May require being at lvl 80 if you don't have stealth)
Also well worth it to buy 400 Festival Dumplings: http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?item=21537 Fastest mana recharge in the game when taken with water.
Last year, I failed to get the one from Stratholme, but now I have a key..

In WotLK, there is a total of 75 coins of ancestry scattered all around Azeroth and Outland.

It would be kinda easy for a lvl 80 to get two thirds of the coins with decent footwork.

These 'coins received' achievements are at the moment bugged, as they don't count all the coins you got, except the ones you currently have in your inventory. I, for example, have the Elders of Kalimdor achievement complete, which, by itself, would grant me 21 coins, not counting the scattered elders I got from Eastern Kingdoms. and main cities, both horde and Alliance. But this achievement only counts six collected coins, the ones I still have in bank leftover from 2008's lunar festival event.

I have to say this was one of the most fun tasks to do in WoW. I did it a few years ago with a buddy, and damn, going to all the alliance cities as a 60 was fun as hell. Now I get to do it on my new main. Huzzah!

To complete this achievement, do I need to keep all the coins and refrain from spending them on anything until I visit all 50 elders?

It really isn't that hard to get the coins of you are level 80. The system actually counted some of the vendors that I visited last year so I didn't have to go see them to again to get the achievement. However, if you can still go visit them for this years event and get their coins. By far the hardest I found was to get the opposite faction's coins. City guards + players = not a good situation.

For those of you with the TomTom mod, these are the locations where you can get these coins. Hope it helps!
(Everything is broken up into parts, so you can copy/paste into a macro, over and over again. Each 'chunk' is just the right size for macros.)

Actually it makes a substantial difference, and in fact is a horrid bug, if the prior coins do NOT count toward your achievement in one condition: if you can no longer get coins from the prior year elders.

For example, one of my toons, last year, did all of EK and Kal, acquiring all the coins along the way (which falls short of the 50 needed). He never did Northrend nor most of the dungeons. But he did purchase the suit, some fireworks, etc. When all was said and done he had 12 coins left in his inventory. This year comes along and according to the achievement he is 12/50 into his collection, though he clearly acquired many more than that. This introduces a shortfall, since there are only 36 possible coins left from Elders not hit-up the prior year. It would leave me with 48, two shy of the required 50 to get this achievement (and therefore also qualify for To Honor One's Elders, and ultimately What a Long Srange Trip It's Been).

I've not checked the prior elders since I'm so-in-to the new content right now, but I'm checking this evening. If this is a problem (and I suspect it is) I'l be openning a ticket to address it (which , of course, Blizz will just jump right on).

Downgrade if you want, but if you think this isn't a big deal, it is.

I obtained all 50 coins at level 60 by completing Elders of the Horde, Alliance, Kalimdor, Eastern Kingdoms and the 6 from the Classic dungeons. (Zul'Farrak through to Stratholme) This is achievable if you only have the original version of World of Warcraft but you cannot skip a single elder.

There is only a 50 coin requirement, most likely, because there are only 50 to pick up in Azeroth for vanilla WoW. This allows for anyone, not just those with the expansion packs, to get the achievement if they put the effort in.

These coins can be picked up from Elders scattered throughout Azeroth. To get one simply locate an Elder and speak to him/her. For a detailed guide on how to find Elders/coins and the entire Lunar Festival, check out Wowheads Lunar Festival Guide

You only need 50 for the achievemnt but there are things you can buy with the coins, like a pet, the festive dress for another achievement, talioring recipes & engineering recipes.

These coins are obtained during the Lunar Festival Event that begins on the second to last Sunday of January the event ends almost 3 weeks later on the second Saturday of February. A total of 21 days

They are used to purchase items like
