Yes this WILL be a guild achievement - as it's listed under the "Guild Achievements" section. I would love to know if the count starts with the beginning of Cata, or if it's cumulative prior to launch.

Thr best place to get this achievement would be the same cave you do the quest from Gidwin Goldbraids in Eastern Plaguelands. (Coords: 4.2, 36.1). There are thousands of critters running around in there.

there is a great place to far... there are 100 critters very close together in a cave in the eastern plaguelands on the northwester shore. I ran thru it several times and you can aoe all of the critters very quickly...

Deeprun Rats has an instant respawn for thoes who are mad to get the Armadillo Pub as fast as possible. :)

Brown Marmot

Being a Druid, I wrote this amazingly simple macro that targets the Brown Marmots and swipes them gaining 3 kills / 3 sec. (as they are on a 3 sec respawn on closer examination)

Yes, anyone could make that but someone might not think to make a macro so it's a reminder if nothing else.

3 kills / 3 sec = 60 kills / min
60kills x 60 minutes = 3600 kills PER HOUR

I was thinking the other day about Lil Ragnaros and Lil KT, these do kill critters every now and then, even when you're AFK.

Now here's my thought : Spawn Lil Raggy in IC (with all the pinguïns), /afk and there you go!

(While waiting for my Cata to be shipped in, I figured I'd help the guild get a head start on this achievement.)

If you feel like doing a tiny bit of mindless flying and totally bored, you can easily grind out about 800 in an hour killing Tundra Penguins on the southern ice-burgs of the Borean Tundra. They generally range in packs of 5~10 with 1-2 packs on the smaller ice-burgs and 3-4 packs of penguins on the larger ones.

Sometimes they'll instantly respawn, sometimes they don't. Just keep flying back and forth on the south side from Coldarra to Death's Stand. And enjoy the massacre.

There's a very good spot in Uldum as well. There are two groups of sheep that has near-instant respawn. Just pop any DoT AoE on one group and farm the other. Repeat.
I was just exploring Uldum on my warrior when I found it and checked if it counted for the achievement. A few bladestorms and Thunderclaps later and I was up in 200 kills.
I'll go back later on my DK and see how much I can get per hour using DnD and Blood Boil/Howling Blast.

One other way that is not phased is the tunnel in Eastern Plague Lands. If you're just crossing bridge into the zone from WPL, head up North along the river to a cave. Inside there are dozens and dozens of spiders, beetles, cockroaches, and scorpions. I did one run through the cave and netted about 150 critters to our guild's credit. Respawn is about 3-5 minutes for them all to come back (give or take).

EDIT: Did I miss something here? The info I shared at the time was new and relevant--still is while only lacking the name, Terrorweb Tunnel.

I agree, Terrorweb Tunnel is a great place to farm this achievement. Many bugs, and I don't have to worry about the guilt of killing something cute.

Update: I killed 281 critters in 3 minutes 13 seconds in this tunnel. The respawn is probably 3 minutes.

I also highly recommend killing all the critters you see in group runs. 1 regular critter kill can then be multiplied by up to 5 times depending on how many guildmates are with you. I have no tried this as a raid yet. I also have not tried this in Terrorweb Tunnel, but if it worked, you could potentially receive 1400+ kills in a minute or two with a full group.

Something I found out is if you have the Toxic Wasteling minipet from the Love is in the Air world event, any critters it eats count towards the achievement. It's not the fastest way to get critters for the total, but it is a way to go afk and get a few added to the kill total, or have it out and snag a few just while running around .

Life tap every 5 or 6 macro spams and you will never run out of mana or health

It takes 6-7minutes to get 1000 critters killed. You don't even have to look at the screen, just watch TV and hit the macro. When you don't heard casting anymore, Life Tap.

Did they recently fix this so the sheep don't spawn much anymore? I did the critter achievement this morning, left with about 61k down, then came back in the evening and the spawning had all but stopped. Anyone else have this prob?

The spot to kill Sheep in Uldum looks to have been hotfixed in some manner. They no longer spawn instantly like they used to :(

Perhaps most people have not realized this because the recipe is kindof old but...if you sit in deeprun tram and use some Stormchops, you can just go afk and do other things while letting it take care of the achievement!

The rate is a little slow compared to other methods I have read here, about 600 per hour, but I am fine with this because I don't have to sit at my computer while it does it!

It took me 40min to get from 8k to 50k critters from spaming helfire on sheeps in uldum :D But they fixed it

Getting about 600 kills per hour using Stormchops. It is a little slower than the other methods I have read here but I can go idle and study for finals while it works on it!

The buff lasts for 30 mins, which is just enough time to put up a new one before you get logged out for being AFK.

I also was able to confirm that(as of 12/11/2010), if you have someone in a group from another guild and you're both killing critters in the same area(did not test otherwise), both guilds get the tallies.

Edit:

I have found that if I do this by myself in the tram, I get a kill every 6 seconds(so about 600 per hour). If I have a friend in a spot near me where they also spawn, I am finding I get a kill every 1.6 seconds(based on 14 minutes). That is 2250 an hour. I think the reason for the jump might be that the Stormchops have a chain lightning effect, and since we are sitting at spawn points, we are getting faster kills, so they are respawning faster and are closer together.

A good spot for this for all levels is Darnassus itself. Between the squirrels and the toads you can literally run around the city in laps and by the time you get back to where you started things have respawned. Not the best place to kill critters if you're higher level, but great for letting the lowbies help out with the achievement.

Edit: Thanks for all of the upvotes! I put a lot of work into this achievement. As you can see, the comment was made during patch 4.0.3, so some of this information is out-of-date. I'll try to update it if I have the time, but hopefully most of the information will still be of use!

I whipped up a post on my guild forums seeing as how we have plenty of pet collectors that are ooo-ing and ahh-ing over this achievement but are scared about that 50k number. It includes numbers for a few of the known sites in the game currently that are best for critter farming. Feel free to use this post on your own sites!

Alright, pet collectors! We have a new and wonderful guild achievement now available to us called the Critter Kill Squad. Upon killing 50,000 critters as a guild, we will be eligible to obtain an armadillo pup!

50,000? That seems terrible, doesn't it? Well, let me assure you that it's not nearly as bad as it sounds. As pet collectors, we know well how many hours it can take to farm elusive pets with ridiculous drop rates. The only difference here is that we are guaranteed to get this pet after putting the time in.

First things first. Every critter counts! If you see a critter while you're out questing or in a dungeon, kill it! They all add up in the end.

If you have a Toxic Wasteling pet (Toxic Wasteling), get it out while you quest! The critters that it eats DO count for the achievement! (Other similar critter-hungry pets will work as well.)
If you have Stormchops available to you (Stormchops), eat some while you farm critters! Critters zapped by Stormchops DO count for the achievement.
If you group up with others from your guild to farm in the same spot, each person will earn credit for every critter slain! (Meaning, in a full group of 5 players, every critter killed will net 5 critters toward the guild total!) The more, the merrier!
If someone else from another guild is farming in "your" spot, ask to group with them. Your collective kills will count for both guilds!
Be sure to turn on the critter nameplates to make them easier to spot! Critters can be so tiny that they are difficult to see, but if you go to Interface -> Names, it will make it much easier!

Now, for the more dedicated collectors, there are a few places in the game that are perfect for farming. If you have some time to spare, fly on over to the spot of your choice to do a bit of farming.

I've tested all of these places myself using AOE spells. Times listed include respawn rates and drinking for mana, if you so require. Your personal mileage can and will vary, but for all intents and purposes, these numbers are as accurate as can be expected considering the differences between the ways in which different classes will farm. I will add to this list as we find more places.

Terrorweb Tunnel in Eastern Plaguelands (4,35)
Spiders, Scorpions, Cockroaches
Suitable for Level 40+
Approximate Number of Critters: 260
Approximate Clear Time: 10 mins
Critters Per Hour: 1500
Return to the entrance of the cave after clearing, at which point the critters should be respawned.

Zul'Gurub in Northern Stranglethorn (83,35)

Approximate Clear Time: N/A
Critters Per Hour: 1500-2000
Relatively immediate and infinite respawns.

Deeprun Tram in Ironforge

Approximate Clear Time: N/A
Critters Per Hour: 830
Relatively immediate and infinite respawns.

There are certainly other areas with healthy amounts of critters, but so far at this point in the game, these places are the best areas for farming the most critters in the shortest amount of time.

Unsure if this is a bug.

while in a party, each member of the party gets credit for a kill. and if all members of the party (or raid, this is important) are in the guild. a single kill will give each of those members a kill credit. so a 40 man raid, killing a single rat in deeprun tram, will get 40 kills. these rats spawn almost instantly, at several locations. so if it's a 40 man raid, it only takes 1,250 to get this achievement, so theoretically, you can get this achievement within 10 minutes.

actually, the BEST way to do this is make a worgen. make a toon with a pet. go to the starting area quest where you run through the tunnel with all the rats using a torch. quest name is Knee-Deep. use the torch to go to the other end so you have an area to heal up if nessesary. put your pet on aggressive and go watch a show. the number will fly up. get some guildies to come with you to make it go faster. i got 1k in about 20 min by myself.

I've seen a good number of spots listed here to work on this achievement. Now its my turn to put my "two cents" in.

West of Garrosh's Landing in Borean Tundra there is a string of 3 islands close to the fatigue line. As a lock specd demo with "Inferno" talented I can hop back and forth between these three islands and kill penguins with hellfire.

Using the stopwatch I kept track of my kill ratio. I was averaging 1000 kills every 21 mins. (with a 310 speed mount for travel time). My route was to start at the northern most island and work my way south. At the southern island I would turn around and head back north.

Respawns are realitively quick. After leaving the middle island for example and heading to the northern, by the time ive cleared the northern and flew back to the middle 2/3 packs of penguins have alrdy respawned.

Another great spot we found is in Northern Stranglethorn > Zul'Gurub. The snakes there respawn quickly, and with 5 guildies there in a group we got ~1k kill count every 3 minutes.
However, beware there is a quest lowbies do that bring them to this area, and when the quest completes everyone in the immediate area is killed.

Not sure if anyone has said this yet, but i found out while doing guild run achieves that when you kill one critter it counts for each guildie in your group. So with the 4 of us. 1 critter kill gave us 4 twords the achievement. i wonder if this works in raid groups O.O

Can you imagine a 10 man or even 25 man full of guildies just killing critters left and right? poor things.... Now if you excuse me i have to go kill more bunnies

After reading a few comments here, my guild got 0-50,000 critter kills in under 3 hours. Could be done much faster (~half an hour) with a larger guild though (or one that will revel in critter slaughter). We did it like this:

Firstly, set a time and date that you want this done. Get as many guildies as you possibly can on board (ideally have 40).

After setting up your raid go to Terrorweb tunnel in Eastern Plague.

As a group, run through the tunnel spamming AoE. Make sure you go into the little nooks and crevices too, plenty of critters there.

When you reach the other side, wait 3-5 minutes and then go again.

Continue this until 50 or 100k critters reached:)

Alone, I killed about 200 critters for a full run through the tunnel, so in a 40 man raid you will get 40x200= 8,000 per run.
With a generous 5 minutes given for respawn time thats roughly 30 mins for this particular achieve, or an hour to get Crittergeddon.

probably found the best way to do the acm..... even though it has some kind of prequel to do so....

1. create a worgen warri and make sure to equip at least a weapon with crusader enchantment.. (i advise: use items bound to account)
2. lvl the char until you get to the quest called: "Knee-Deep" - *spoiler* it's after you fought Sylvanas
3. to do the quest you need to go through a tunnel with about 300 (or more) critters
respawn time ...about 10sec (approximately)
DONT use the quest item just spam thunder clap the crusader will proc about 7-10 times if you got 100 rats behind you.... meaning it will heal ~ 700-1000

4. maths:

150 critter per pull -> about 30secs (thunder clap dmg splits on large numbers + 6sec cd on thunder clap)
~300 critter overall -> 1min per run through the tunnel -> 100000 / 300 -> ~ 334 runs -> 5,56h till you got 100k

p.s.: only works for alliance
you need a worgen - gilneas is empty if you want to use your other characters -> wont work...
use herbalism & mining as professions for xp boost ;)
sorry if it all seemed a little..."cut off" ... bit tired... xD

So I'm not too sure if anyone had mentioned this before. But if you're just hunting for critters, the best places to go are Borean Tundra, and Howling Fjord, even Ice crown. There are Glacier Penguins, and Borean Penguins. They hang out in groups of 20 and have a decent spawn rate. Happy hunting!

Fastest way to get this achievement is to take a few of your guild members out to Borean Tundra and hunt for Tundra Penguin. Form a raid group, split up and each take a island or few and kill the penguins.

With enough people the penguins will instantly respawn on the other islands (more members = more respawning) and because you are all in the same guild and group, you will get bonus kills for each critter killed. So if you had 10 people in your group, killing a critter will give you 10 kills for the achievement. So instead of needing to kill 50,000, you have to kill 5,000.

With 7 of us farming the penguins, we got it in about 50 minutes.

Do it soon because it most likely is a bug and will get fixed.

Got this on 12/19/2010. Did it with a level 13 worgen warrior & druid in the rat tunnel. It was pretty easy, took a total of about 2.5, 3 hours tops to get from 5K (where my guild was before we really started trying) to 50K. It probably could have taken about half the time, but we were recording a podcast at the same time and died a lot due to laughter. :P

One more instant spawn location and that's the Gilnean Rat Runnel for Knee-Deep. There's a catch though, only players phased at that moment of time for that quest will see the rats. So it's going to take an hour to get there, and the only class capable of surviving and equipped with the AE is a Warrior with heirlooms, weapon enchanted with Crusader. Crusader procs off Thunderclap so you will be topped up every time you TC.

Baring any people charging in and scaring the critters away, you can score 1000 critters per 10 mins by cleaning the tunnel.

Here is a list of good locations to farm critters for this achievement in attempt to cut down on the amount of repeated comments.

Easiest spot: Zul'Gurub's fast respawning Snakes can get you a few hundred kills in just a few minutes. Only works in the un-instanced zone, but it can bug if somebody nearby is doing a quest.
Fastest spot: Feverbite, an elite mob in Krasarang Wilds, spawns critters constantly in combat. If you don't kill her, she will continue to spawn waves of critters every few seconds. Best done in a duo; one kiter and one AoEer.
Rats at the Deeprun Tram have instant respawn times
Terrorweb Tunnel in EPL houses about 280 critters.
Stonetalon Pass in Mulgore has a lot of critters, although they sometimes kill each other (it's true!)
Penguins in Borean Tundra over a dozen on each iceberg.
Agmar's Hammer is a nice spot for Horde characters to farm.
Darnassus is a good spot for alliance lowbies, since you can run around the whole city killing and never run out of respawns.
Tur keys in Borean Tundra. Once you kill 15 turkeys, a horde of Angry Turkeys will appear to attack you. They count to the achievement too!
~~Players questing in Gilneas (on this quest) could kill 1,000 critters in 10 minutes.~~ No longer count as critters.
~~Herds of Sheep in Uldum and in Gilneas were easily aoed down, and were instant respawns.~~ No longer count as critters.

Stormchops will make kills for the achievement even when you're AFK. Stormchops can make 600 kills per hour and lasts 30 mins - just long enough before you get afk logged.

Companions that kill critters (1 2 3 4 5) no longer count! :(

Also, bear in mind that the Armadillo Pup can only be purchased at revered guild rep.

As of 4.0.6 it is not possible to get multiple kill-counts per critter by grouping with several guildies! :( HOWEVER if you group with somebody in a different guild, it does count towards both your guilds' achievement, so team up with your friends in different guilds! :)

me and my friends found really good places :3, one was in northern stangelthorn in ZG (you can pretty much fly over the wall) go to the snake boss straight ahead in a small room. the snakes there spawn pretty fast.
and in Easter plaugelands theirs a cave right next to the lake up left hand corner of the map the cave is on the edge of Eastern and western plauglands :3 theirs a lot of bugs in there that spawn fast as well. hope these help thanks

Doing this achievement in zul'gurub. We had a guild group there..anyways some lvl 35 alli came in on a quest. A shade of the hexxor walks in..sucks all the group of lvl 85s towards him, strangling us. Then bam..dead. Word to the wise. If someone comes in doing a quest..get the hell out of that room or you will die. You cannot escape on the quest blimp if you are not on the quest. Great spot to do the achievement though. lol

Posibly the best spot to farm this achiv is the Howling Fjord Icebergs, 20 Penguins on 1 iceberg and there are about 30 Icebergs, and if you're solo sacrificing for your guild it will take time but when you're finished with all of the icebergs the 1st ones will respawn. Happy Killing! :D

Darnassus is packed with critters. No mobs to fight, just make a circuit and they've respawned by the time you get back around. Easy, lazy way to do this achievement.

Webwinder Hollow in Stonetalon Mountains seems to be a good spot for this..there's groups of about 8 tiny spiders that run around. Not sure how many groups there are or the respawn rate, but just a suggestion.

The BEST place I've found is in ZG, the new uninstanced ZG in Northern Stranglethorn Vale. There is a room, where the snake boss used to be -- it is filled with about ~150 snakes, and they have a respawn of about 1-2 minutes. The priest's name is High Priest Venoxis I believe.. .he's not there unless you have the quest chain.. but his snakes are... pretty nice place to level this up.

The tunnel leading to blackfathom deeps is fairly thick with shore crabs and beetles. Not as good as the eastern plaguelands tunnel, but approachable for toons 18 and up

We spent about 4hrs in the snake pit at Zul Gurub. 1 Paladin, 2 Shaman, 1 Rogue and one Mage spamming our AOE's and running around like made men in order to get our critter kills. (Cave in EPL were too crowded and the respawn rate kinda makes it impossible to run it back n forth unless you have a crap AOE. Like me. :))

Definitely group up for it. The more the merrier (and faster)!

EDIT: And in patch 4.06 it'll only require REVERED instead of exalted in order to get the Armadillo Pup!

One thing worth mentioning is possible use of Stormchops in obtaining this guild achievement. One unmentioned and seemingly useless property of this food is that for 30 minutes you zap nearby critters with no participation from your side. Just as I type this, I have my character parked in Deeprun Tram where I discovered those rats respawn fairly quick. So, as I wait for the heroic random dungeon finder to have mercy on me and chat with my guildmates, my character zaps those poor rats for me without any effort from my side what so ever. I could even go and make myself a cup of coffee and it will continue killing those, even in (away) mode. So as long as you're logged in, the kills are slowly ticking away. Hope this helps.

Edit: Did it with my guild today. There simply isn't a bether way or a better place to do it! Coupla stacks of Stormchops and a group of 10-20 guildies spread around Ironforge side of Deeprun Tram and you have the achievment in no time! Critters respawn the second they are killed so all we had to do was ROFLMAO and /dance as we monitored the achievement progress numbers flying like crazy. As mentioned above, every kill counts towards every present guild member, meaning that if you have 10 guild memebers standing there, every critter killed counts like 10 so even those who were just standing there not killing anything were contributing! All in all, great fun and achievement done with no effort at all.

Please give this post good rating so others can avail of this nice way to get this achievement done.

Flying around off the south coast of borean tundra (From a bit east of Kaskala moving all the way west along the coast until you reach Coldarra) I have found you can farm tundra penguins at a pretty decent rate. There are 8 or so different icebergs with penguins on them on this path, each containing about 20-45 penguins each, give or take a few. Don't really have any per hour calculations, but it seems like it could be just as fast as some of the other methods listed.

Being in a guild group gets you extra kills. This also applies if you group as a raid.
1 guildie + you = 2 points towards achievement per kill, etc. up to as many guildies as you can get as far as I know.
My guild went to Zul'Gurub and killed the snakes in High Priest Venoxis's room, with 8 people. It took us approximately 10 minutes to get about 9,000 critters.

The advantage of this place is the high spawn rate of the snakes, although there are not as many as the cave near where you turn in this quest.

The cave is to the left and across the lake nearest to Western Plaguelands. It has a BOAT load of critters, but if you have a massive group you will massacre the cave in no time and be waiting around for awhile.

i ran across this tunnel as i was working on loremaster achievement and i was able to get 250'ish critters per run with about a 3-4 minute full respawn time. took a break from my questing from time to time to rack up the numbers and happy that achievement is out of the way ... now onto fishing.

Just a little north west from Kharanos (Aprox 50. 36) is Shimmering Ridge. There is a bunch of tame crag boars. I killed about 30 in less then 1 min alone. As prevous posts said get a raid group going and it will count times multiple. The respawn rate is almost instant by the time I cleared one side the others were back up. Rank up if you used/liked

Put a guild group together and we went to zul'gurub to the snakes, amazingly fast respawn rate.... so if you are just looking for the achievement. In an hour we killed 14000 and achievement popped!

You MUST be exalted with guild to get the pup!
We have achievement and no one in guild is exalted!

Needless to say everyone was disappointed.....

Last week I found a macro for targeting all the critters.
But it used their ID#s rather than names.
I know I could just grab all the numbers from the links. But that would take a fair bit of time I'd rather use for gaming. So if somebody could tell me what or where that macro is, I would really appreciate it.

Tried this in a group of 3 of us in the Terrorweb Tunnel in Eastern Plaguelands. It seems that Patch 4.0.6 fixed it so you aren't getting multiple kill counts per critter per member, as we were only getting one kill towards our kill counter.

If you happen to be leveling a goblin, in the area surrounding Town-in-a-Box, the Wild Cluckers count toward this achievement. There are many cluckers and the respawn rate seems to be rather quick, as by time I finished a single circuit around the town, they had respawned.

I had been using just Stormchops then eventually added my Toxic Wasteling to rack up the kills for this achievement. I started out dispatching rats in the Ironforge side of the Deeprun Tram Depot, then went to High Priest Venoxis's altar in Zul'Gurub because I thought the abundance of snakes would improve the opportunities for the toxic wasteling to "feed" since the rats in DR are less numerous. However, I switched back to DR because I got sick of dying when people did the quest and I didn't find the vermin fatality rate to be significantly better.

Here are my numbers. Please note, they are somewhat rough because I did this at work and couldn't always come back at the exact 30 minute mark. Hopefully they're close enough to give folks a feel for what they can expect.

I was killing time in Stormwind and I noticed there were rats everywhere (not sure about Org for Horde). I made a macro to auto target them and kill them. You can get a lot of kills when you are hanging around SW without really trying. This is not going to be a very efficient method, but it doesn't require any special hunting since you will probably spend some time in SW anyway.

I've been experimenting with the locations and tactics here to figure out the fastest critter kill rate. Druegar's numbers (above) are super helpful, but I don't have the Toxic Wasteling to assist--and I wondered about AOE rates as well as Stormchops rates.

I used Stormchops for AFK killing, and my mage's Arcane Explosion for AOE spamming (with Mage Armor to help with mana). I also had Willy out, though he does more sleeping than zapping.

Stormchops is an interesting dynamic that works well in some areas and not so well in others. For smaller critters like roaches, the lightning zap often arced to multiple nearby critters, meaning more dead critters every proc. It would not arc for larger critters like snakes, however. I found that the best case scenario for Stormchops was a small area of small critters, close together, that respawned almost immediately.

AOE did better in areas with lots of critters and fairly rapid respawn, using a character with an AOE that could be cast cheaply and rapidly while moving. Best case scenario was a dense area of critters that respawned quickly enough that you could walk in a circle spamming AOE, and the ones you killed first had already respawned by the time you got back to the beginning.

These are solo numbers. Presumably your kill rate would be higher if you brought along a guildmate or two to someplace like Deeprun Tram and spread out a bit so that you each Stormchopped or AOEd a small area with no overlap.

These are Horde-accessible areas.

Zul'Gurub snakes (where snake boss is, but outside of instance; you do not have to be in the instance to see the snakes): Approx 30-40 snakes, approx 30 second respawn.
AOE kill rate (with pause for mana recharge): 50.2 per minute
Stormchops kill rate: 7.83 per minute.
~~I've heard that there's a quest at this location that kills everyone that is there, but I have yet to encounter this. (Not that I need a reason to do this naked, but...)~~ Several of us have now seen the quest in action, and it seems that the rooting/sudden death no longer occurs. When the quest starts, we stand to the side, take a little break, and allow the quester to take care of their business.

Agmar's Hammer roaches: Approx 2 roaches, 3-6 second respawn
AOE kill rate: 23.4 per minute
Stormchops kill rate: 9.43 per minute
These roaches are near the undead apothecary area. Agmar's Hammer is nice because you don't need to move around to AOE. Stand between the spawn points of the two roaches, and click your AOE every five-count. Or use Stormchops and watch TV/read/surf the Internet/work.

Terrorweb Tunnel bugs: 100-300 bugs, approx 6-7 minute respawn, full tunnel sweep only takes 3-4 mins when spamming AOE
AOE kill rate (first sweep, all critters spawned): 50.2 per minute
AOE kill rate (subsequent sweeps, partial spawns): 36 - 38 per minute
Stormchops: Not worth it
The problem with Terrorweb Tunnel is the very slow respawn. The first sweep through the tunnel was great, but that pace couldn't be maintained because the critters wouldn't spawn for a considerable time, meaning I was either standing around waiting for spawns, or mowing down the handful of bugs that had respawned. For the same reason (slow respawn), Stormchops was useless. Once nearby bugs were dead, Stormchops wouldn't proc for several minutes. Should also mention that there is at least one quest in this tunnel, and those of us who are polite find ourselves walking slowly behind low-levels who are questing through the tunnel, so that our AOEs don't completely wipe out all the mobs they need for the quest. Good manners not only lowers the critter kill rate, it requires a certain level of alertness, so this is not a good place to critter kill while watching TV.

Deeprun Tram (Ironforge end): 5-6 rats, 3-5 sec respawn
AOE kill rate: 24.4 per minute
Stormchops: 8.8 per minute
Deeprun Tram is a neutral "instance," so Horde characters can kill critters there without being PvP as long as you don't accidentally hit the Alliance NPCs that are in there. Pacing or standing at the back wall of the Ironforge end is best for Horde because the Alliance NPCs don't go there. Of course, to get into the tram you will need to fly through Stormwind (or Ironforge), which will flag you for PvP. If you're not a fan of PvP, fly straight into the Deeprun Tram instance portal, then go hide somewhere for 5 minutes until your PvP timer clicks off.

Other promising critters / areas didn't have very good respawn rates and/or required too much running around for my likings. For example, using Stormchops while standing amidst the turkeys in Howling Fjord gave a miserable result, as the turkeys were too far spread out for the Stormchops to hit. The penguins along Northrend coasts did not respawn very quickly, so I had to fly around a lot looking for more--again resulting in a low kill rate per minute.

Conclusion: Agmar's Hammer is best for AFK (Stormchops) critter killing. Zul'Gurub is best for active AOE critter killing. Your results or conclusions may differ.

Best place to do this is the non-instanced Zul'Gurub where High Priest Venoxis would be.
There is endless critters.

Also using a companion that kills critters such as Lil'KT will kill critters too.

Turkeys in Howling Fjord at 69.64 have instant respawn!
Stormchops not working here and you cant AOE em coz they spawns at 30-40y range so you have to target em 1st and then use your ranged wep or any instant cast and if you do that you will have nice kpm (kill per min). Atleast you stay at 1 place and just rotating at diferent directions and selecting criters...

Best spot is Deeprun tram. Find a nice spot on the opposite side of the entrance agaianst the wall and face the middle.
Create a macro that simply does:
/tar deeprun
/cast (cheapest spell or ranged attack)

Bind it to a key and spam it. THe respawn rate is so fast you'll never run out of critters.

If you're a Shammy, and you have Magma totem, and 2/2 Totemic reach, there's a particular spot in the Deeprun Tram where you can stand and put down your magma and earthbind totems, and get about 3 critters per 4 seconds. All you do is stand there and re-cast Magma every 2 minutes. It's about 2700 critters per hour.

Enter on the IF side, and go to the far wall all the way on the other side of the room from the instance portal. If you stand with your back to that far wall, and the portal in front of you on the other side of the room, you'll see two pillars to your left. Put your magma totem just slightly to the left of the nearest pillar. This will place it within range of 3 rat spwan points, but also keep it far enough away that the rats don't come eat your totem. (Putting your totem right on top of a spawn point will let them get a 1 melee hit on it, so 5 rats would mean dead totem and you have to recast it.) The reason I add the earthbind is to aggo the rats on the far right to bring them in range of the magma totem.

I've found my new favorite place to kill critters for this. In the Northwest corner of Mulgore, there is a place called Stonetalon Pass that you can clearly see on the map. I *THINK* you need a flying mount o get up there. I haven't messed around the area yet to see if there is a way to walk up there.

Anyways, this place is full of critters. Bunnies, prairie dogs and mice. They are even three different sizes. Some are tiny, some are medium sized and some are large. The best part is that the waves of large critters changes every time you wipe them out and they respawn. I don't want to ruin the surprise, so I won't say more. Needless to say, the large critters are hilarious to watch for a moment before you kill them.

This isn't an area that you can AE in, and there is running around involved in the killing. But if you're like me and can't stand in one place for long, this is a wonderful and amusing spot to work on the achievement. By the time I get back to where I started, everything has respawned and is ready for killing again.

At Shimmer Ridge (50/36) slightly southwest of Ironforge there is a level 5 questing zone that has trolls and level 1 critters called Tame Crag Boar with almost an immediate respawn-5 minutes better then 250 kills with just AoE (Blood Boil and Death and Decay) also using Stormchops for the additional pleasure. Happy Hunting! Over 6k kills in just over 3 1/2 hours!

A guildie and me went to ZG snake spot today, 4.2 just came out, and each kill was only increasing the achievement counter by 1. We tried grouping in a party and a raid, letting pet kill them and killing them ourselves, but nothing helped. Me and my wasteling were left to afk grind on our own, while my guildie had fun elsewhere.

Maybe Blizzard wanted us to work harder for the achievement?

If you're a pet collector and are farming in Terrorweb Tunnel, I advise picking up Fiona's Lucky Charm beforehand. Then the mobs will drop Hidden Stashes, which have a chance of containing Mr. Grubbs.

My friend and I tag-teamed this over the last couple of days- she ran back and forth through the terrorweb tunnel in EPL (about a 5 min respawn time and a little under 300 kills per run through) and I killed penguins on the islands of Borean Tundra. We averaged 1k kills every 10-15 minutes.

Every day while doing the firelands dailies I also killed bunches of spiders up on the spider hill (forget the name at the moment) which added quite a bit as those spiders re-spawn fast and there are so many.

In Nagrand by Hemmit Nesingwary camp, the crashed plane, you will fing the snakes respawn every 1 1/2 seconds or so, I killed over 1000 in 53 minutes

If you're a mage, just run thru Terrorweb Tunnel spamming Arcane Explosion...

If you have your mage armor on you will never run out of mana...

It takes about 4 minutes to do a run with approx. 275 kills per run.

Fly back to the start of the cave and wait a couple minutes for respawn.

Rinse and repeat...easy peasy!

I just found perfect spot for hunters. Kill Fjord Turkey on spot 69.3/64.6, Howling Fjord. There is like 3 way connect there. On first sight there is 10-12 turkeys around, but after kill all, which is in seconds, they are re-spawned. It's seems that attack of angry turkeys have CD, I found that 1st horde group of turkeys come angry for me, then for my pet. If change pet another group will come for new pet too. Hunter can bring 5 different pets with him. Didn't count on CD of angry turkey group, but after some time they come 2nd time for me, then can begin switch pets again. Happy hunting! :]

I went and farmed in Tol Barad (lower) for 2 hours. I ended up getting a lot of good stuff :D. Farmed 2200 critters for this achievement. Got a Fox Kit and Je'Tze's Sparkling Tiara and A LOT of Cinderbloom and Stormvine from grabbing it when it popped up on the map, and A LOT of savage leather. LvL 85 Frost DK with 375 iLvL i was able to get a lot of stuff, seems like a really good spot for this achieve plus some extra farming.

The setup I've been using nets be about 140 critters per five minute period, or 2800 an hour. It uses the Deeprun Tram, so if someone else is there, you're best off waiting for them to leave. I'm a hunter, and I have the creepy crate.

Station yourself in one of the corners, facing east/west along the wall so you can see the rats on the far end.
Station your pet at that far end, so that it doesn't have to run back to you.
Use the Creepy Crate to massacre critters at close range, your pet to take out the long range ones, and deal with mid-range critters yourself.

I set up a macro so that I could sic my pet on a different critter while I was waiting for my weapon reload or for it to come back in line of sight (A lot of the middle rats run between the pillars, which block line of sight).

The macro:
/petattack
/stopmacro
/run SetRaidTarget("mouseover", 4);
/script PlaySoundFile("Sound/Interface/Magicclick.Wav" )

The latter half plays a soft noise and marks the critter if you've set your pet on it, which is helpful since you're not actually targeting the critter it's going after, so you have no confirmation otherwise. Setting that to a macro button on my mouse allows me to right click one critter, then macro-click another. At this point, it becomes a very fast grind of one-click kills all along that side of the tram.

Fast "easy solo" guide that worked for me:

Had 2 of my chars in 2 different places:
My priest in Terrorweb tunnel in EPL and my DK in The iceberg area in Borean Tundra as stated in the highest rated post by rhinoloupe. (both 85 but i don't think it matters much)
By the time I had finished a terrorweb tunnel run, the critters in the iceberg area had respawned and vice versa, so there was no downtime at all.

With this tactic I managed to kill an average of 340 critters in 6:30 minutes (including minimum downtime, e.g. loading screens or 20 seconds before logging out a char).

So with quick math you get 3238 critters per hour, so you need only 15 hours to get from 0 to 50,000.

Terrorweb Tunnel, in Eastern Plaguelands nets an average of about 185 critters per run. I ran through once on my priest, spamming Holy Nova, didn't stop, didn't go down any side turns, just straight through, and killed 185 critters in about 1 minute.

A nice place to find critters to kill is to fly over into uninstanced Zul'Gurub and go to the first boss room. The place is full of snakes that respawn quickly.

This takes forever with a small guild, mine is at 25k, and we've been working(kinda) on this since cata came out.

I just found out with my companion pets"Creepy Crate" and "Searing Scorchling" when it kills a critter it counts towards the achieve. LOL awesome!
I am gathering that any other companion pet that attacks critters would also count towards the achieve.

Unsure if it's working as intended or not, although I'm inclined to believe it's a deliberate change, but as of build 15799, I found myself unable to kill critters at all in the beta. Frankly, i hadn't noticed it before, but it might have been true in earlier builds as well. My main question is, does anyone know if this is an intended change, and if so is this achievement becoming a Feat of Strength come MIsts?

I have found the best farming spot personally is in Eastern Plaguelands at the cave "Terrorweb Tunnle" located at 4 / 38. its at the northern most tip of the Thronroril River where you first meet Gidwin Goldbraids.

there are about 300 critters in the cave. on my mage spamming Arcane Explosion it takes me 3 minutes to clear the cave and 6 minutes for the critters to respawn.

If you are horde, Agmar's Hammer in Dragonblight is a great place for this. If you're in a guild who just doesn't care about this achievement or no one's ever on, this is a great place to solo it. I was able to kill about 1000 roaches in approximately 9.5 minutes, making that about 6300 roaches per hour. I don't know what the spawn rate for roaches was like before, but as of 5.0.4 they're almost instantaneous. The roaches spawn around the undead apothecary's area on the south side of Agmar's Hammer. From what I can gather 4 or 5 roaches will spawn around the Lucid Test Subject who's locked up in the cage. What I did was stand about 3 steps southeast of the test subject and AOE away. My mage can spam arcane explosion every second or so and that's all it really takes for the roaches to respawn. I was able to hit 4 roaches with every explosion and sometimes 5, depending on how they walk out at first. I do have glyph of arcane explosion which increases its range by 5 yards, so that definitely helps. Haven't tried it on any other class but mage, but this is definitely the way to go if you want to solo the achievement with a mage. Hope it helps and good luck!

I tried doing the Terrorweb Tunnel grind for my guild... but it seems that the spiders, beetles, scorpions and cockroaches in there do not count towards the achievement. Does anyone know if this is a bug from 5.0.4 or a nerf-bat from Blizzard making the achievement a little more difficult to obtain for small guilds?

EDIT: I think this is just a small glitch with the guild interface that happened today (09/16/2012). The guild window and tabs are not showing any news and there are no progress numbers for any of the guild achievements.

A very easy way to complete this achievement is as follows.

1. Go to the area west of Dawnchaser Retreat, Krasarang Wilds. Find the part thats covered in spider webs.
2. There you will find an elite mob called Feverbite, a giant spider.
3. Engage Feverbite in combat but do not kill it. Every ten seconds or so it calls the surrounding spiders to its aid. Usually 100 or so come at once, these are easily killed with AoE. As long as Feverbite is alive this huge waves of critters will come straight to you.

If you accidentally kill Feverbite simply run around the trees nearby, these are also smothered in critters. The above method eliminates the runtime. This is easy to do with a class with healing capability you should be able to keep your health/mana reasonably full at lvl90. Other classes may find this slightly more challenging.

If feverbit is not there when you arrive, killing the surrounding spiders triggers the spawn

I managed to get the last 3k my guild needed towards the achievement in under 30mins.

#1 Fastest spot to farm IS NOT ZG, Read below!

The fastest spot to farm critters is in the Forbidden Jungle (cords 15,99) in Karsarang Wilds.

The area is a small loop full of Feverbite Hatchlings and in the center of the area there is a small mound where Feverbite is located. Feverbite has a short respawn timer and I've usually been able to get her to spawn after doing just one single loop around her mound.

Feverbite is an excellent way to farm additional critters due the the massive amounts of Hatchlings that spawn and gather at your feet during your fight with her. As long as you don't kill her the waves will continue to come about every 8 - 10 secs and will continue until she is killed.

I'll gamble that two guild members could easily farm 10 - 15k+ critters an hour if one ran the loop while one farmed Feverbite when she spawned.

Nice, quick and easy.

Another great spot for this is 'Frog Island', off the southwest coast of Krasarang Wilds (coordinates 18,70). The island is filled with Krasarang Frogs, Krasarang Tideskirters & Krasarang Croakers and they respawn fast. Just watch out for Cro'akan.

I have done a bit of critter farming and Feverbite is by far the best place to do it.
Here's how I did it for those that would like to know how to do it the simplest way possible.

I highly recommend using a hunter for one because your pet can take all the damage of misses Feverbite and you just sit there and kill all the hatchlings as they come.

Recommendation for a hunter.
-A turtle is my favorite pet to use with this situation because your pet isn't do any damage but turtles are more "durable" than other pets (more health, better armor, and more healing taken).
-Marksmanship is the best spec that I used because I only used multi-shot as my AoE and there is the nice chance to reduce the cost of that spell by 50% and if you have thrill of the hunt as a talent it's even better so Marksmanship is best for this situation.
-Equip one of the dinkiest weapons you can find which is most simply done by getting a gun from the ranged weapon vendor in Thunder Bluff. And I mean dinky here, not the best one the guys sells but the dinkiest of them all.
-When Feverbite is getting low on health, which will take a while, just dismiss your pet and feign death. Her health will reset and then you don't have to wait 11 minutes for her to respawn. And then of course summon your pet once more when you are ready to engage her again.
-Make sure your pets Growl is on as that will keep the queen on your pet, I like to tell my pet to Stay which is in the pet spellbook and I also put my pet on passive so no more damage than necessary is being dealt to the queen
-One more tip, don't wait for there to be a large amount of the hatchlings to arrive before killing them just keep a fairly steady attack when there are at least 3 hatchlings there because the little spiders come to the defense of the queen so if you're not attacking her at all you may have to wait longer for them to come to here defense.

I can't say that the hunter is the best class to do it with because that is the only class I've tried it with but it was a piece of cake and there is no need whatsoever for a second person to help.

Walking over Ihgaluk Roach on the Isle of Thunder (Saurok area) especially while under the effects of Skin of the Saurok is a very easy and fast way to complete this.

For the Terrorweb tunnel in EPL, once you make it through you can fly back to the other side and everything will have been regenerated. Also good for farming and

Just an FYI for anyone doing this achievement now, note that 'Frog Island' no longer exists. The Alliance have taken over this island.
I popped down to check while waiting for Feverbite to respawn and saw the Alliance swarming the island.

No more Mother Frog to tell us to F'off on killing her children I guess.

I have seen people mention using the Toxic Wasteling to contribute to this achievement, but I have to say that when I went into the Deeprun Tram and let this little creature loose, while it eagerly ate the multitude of rats that were present, not a one counted toward this achievement. I know these rats do count as critters for this achievement, as killing them myself or using Stormchops and sitting in the Tram works just fine. The kills count toward the achievement, so it seems that only "killing them" or eating or absorbing them, whatever this little blob does, does not count toward Critter Kill Squad. I don't know if anything the Toxic Wasteling eats counts toward the achievement, honestly, because the Tram was the only place I tried and I didn't see any rats or other critters in IF on the way there. If anyone else has any experience with the Wasteling and knows on which critters it counts I'd love to hear about it, please post your results!

It's too bad, too, because using Stormchops in the Ironforge side of the Deeprun Tram is a lovely place to critter farm for this achievement, the rats literally respawn the second one is killed, granting an inexhaustible supply of rats for which to smear all over the place. There's a cooldown on the lightning bolts with the chops, 5 or 10 seconds I forget, but if you stand in the right place (I find right in front of the entrance/exit tunnel midway between the tram and the tunnel is the best place to stand) the rats are always within reach of the lightning zaps and it's maximum zappage non-stop. If you could combine the Wasteling with that to go twice as fast it would be so nice, it's too bad.

Not sure if it has yet been mentioned, but there is a rat in Arathi Basin BG @ farm (just south of the little fence) which respawns <1 sec after you kill it, so if you're defending, why not get some critter kills while you're at it? Food for thought.

As was mentioned earlier, aggoring Feverbite (18.7, 45.5) in Krasarang Wilds is the best way to go imo.

Simply kill about a hundred Feverbite hatchlings around the place, (takes a minute or two,) and Feverbite appears.

Aggro her, (but don't kill her,) and she draws to her 50 to 60 little critter spiders every twenty or thirty seconds or so, which you kill. Priest holy spec found this easy work, but any class any spec could do it easily I'm sure.

Killing 50 critters every twenty seconds, let's make it thirty for the maths, is 100 critters a minute. That's 6,000 an hour (and that's being generous, it was more like 9 or 10k an hour).

Sure beats killing the snakes in old ZG.

If you accidentally kill it, no worries, kill a hundred more critters and it comes back. Or simply reset it by running away when it gets down to around 15%.

Addit: lol Even though my mana never went below 80%, I found my durability went down as I was in effect fighting this one spider for hours on end literally. So it cost me 80 odd gold (being a cloth wearer). There's the downside if that can be called one.

I found the best spot was in Karasang Wilds, with Feverbite. Now this huge spider calls a group of about 64 baby spiders(the critters) about every thirty seconds. Basically in 10 minutes you can get about 1000 critter kills.

I haven't tried any other classes, but 90 Death Knights seem to do really well for this. Basically after I kill lots of the spiders by the trees and Feverbite comes out, I walk up to the spider and face my back to it, allowing it to attack me. When the first wave comes, I target a baby spider and attack it with Death Strike, so I can get some health off it. I then kill a second with Death Strike for more help then kill the rest of the spiders that are gathered around in a circle with blood boil. This works efficiently and can go on for a long time. Worse comes to worse, I use Conversion. Don't kill Fever or attack it with any spells besides when you use blood boil. This makes it survive longer and the better for getting more critter kills.

This definitely takes time, as all will, but it's the fastest and most dependable way I've figured out.

Using the stopwatch feature, I timed myself using Blood Boil killing critters in Terrorweb Tunnel. At the time, I was a Level 65 Blood Elf Death Knight, for what that matters. Over a five-minute period, I killed 98 critters using only Blood Boil. That's an average of 1 critter every 3 seconds. At that rate, it would take roughly 16,667 seconds (roughly 278 minutes or 4 hours, 38 minutes) to get the achievement, barring server resets, server crashes, Blizzard going out of business, Alliance characters getting in the way, glitches, Deathwing spawning in Terrorweb Tunnel, and/or the Gnomepocalypse.

I'm curious if the Sun-Touched Flutterwing counts for this. They hang out in nice AOEable groups that are convenient to pick off while farming Dark Soil for rep items, but the critter kill counter seems to be bugged, so I can't tell if it's counting them or not.

Me and guildie clocked atleast around 5k/hour by doing this;

He was at Zul'Gurub with his fan of knives, pretty constant critter kills.
I ran a mage through terrorweb tunnel(arcane explosion). Good burst of 250+ critters.
At other end i logged off my mage and logged to warlock who was at terrace of gurthan. For 2-3mins(or however long i felt took for terrorweb to respawn) i dropped rain of fire on the spiders there.
Logged back to mage and did a tunnelrun.
Rinse and repeat.

i do apologize if this has been posted before by someone else but i'm not reading through 141 posts plus comments to find out. There's an island in the Krarasang Wilds that has groups of frogs spawn on it and re-spawn every 10-20 seconds and they group together on rocks and run around and stuff, its not a bad place to put some time in for this achievement. its coords are 19-68 and the mini map title is The Southern Isles. for those that don't have coords......... Well! Go Get It, jk its a bit east of domination point , I'm not sure if the island gets taken over by the horde post domination point phasing but ill try to let you know if it does, hopes this helps someone.

While under Skin of the Sauruk buff on Isle of Thunder, there are HUNDREDS of cockroaches in the Ihgaluk Crag. You kill them by stepping on them while under this buff. They count towards the achievement!

By far the best place I've found. Once you do the first PvE daily to go there, you will always get the buff when entering the Crag area.

I found the best spot was in Karasang Wilds, with Feverbite see below comments for cords. If you just run around the tree line killing them they respawn almost immediately. Me and another guild mate killed over 5,000 in about 15minutes. Finally got the guild achievement. Don't see any reason to do the next level of killing 100,000 as you get nothing for it.
