Will be the second of a 4-step Achievement chain to collect vanity mini-pets, also known as noncombat pets or small pets. You can get these pets from a range of sources, including rare drops, the WoW:TCG, vendors, holiday events, and more.

Visit WarcraftPets.com for detailed guides on where to obtain every small pet in the game, along with a great community of pet lovers if you find that's your thing. :)

You have to have 15 different small pets to unlock this achievement, so if you have enough more when you first launch Wrath, you'll be automatically bumped past this step of the chain. Noncombat pets (along with mounts) have been made into spells that you will learn (1-time use) from the item you would first obtain, so if you've held back on collecting vanity pets in the past due to the massive amount of bank space they can consume, this gives you two new reasons to start!

Thats 26 pets that you can fly around picking up if you want to work towards the 3 pet achievements, the last one needing I believe 50 pets!

Any Alliance and Horde pets sold through their home faction vendors can be acquired by the opposite Faction through the Steamwheedle Cartel at their neutral auction houses in Booty Bay, Gadgetzan, and Everlook. Simply because of the Pet Achievements there has been a boost towards buying and selling pet Snakes, Cats, Moths, Dragonhawks and etc to the oppisite faction.

Can someone confirm if by unique, they mean the type, or the type and Colour?

IE, Blue Dragonhawk, Golden Dragonhawk, and Silver Dragonhawk Count as 3 unique pets.
Or do they count as one.

Taken from 3.1 patch notes:

Horde characters may now obtain the quest CLUCK! from Chickens. While Farmer Saldean won't be selling Special Chicken Feed to the Horde, perhaps "Westfall" William Saldean in Brill might...

So soon we fellow soldiers of the Horde will be able to say "'Least I have Chicken"

EDIT: This is meant as a reply to the comment about Westfall Chicken not being available to the horde. For some reason it won't appear there.

The pets Lil' Smoky and Pet Bombling can now be obtained from the schematic dropped by Mekgineer Thermaplugg, the final boss in Gnomeregan, and Arcane Nullifier X-21 in the corridor outside. Unfortunately the actual pets are BoP so yet another way of engineers making money down the drain!

The Chicken thing is not Alliance only. You can get as Horde near Brill.

As of the current (15-Apr-2012) Mists of Pandaria Beta Build (15589) The following Pet Achievements have been remove from the General Tab:

Shop Smart, Shop Pet...Smart which awards Stinker (Reeking Pet Carrier)
Lil' Game Hunter which awards Little Fawn (Little Fawn's Salt Lick)
Petting Zoo which awards Nuts (Nuts' Acorn)
Menagerie which awards Brilliant Kaliri (Brilliant Kaliri)
Littlest Pet Shop which awards Celestial Dragon (Celestial Dragon)

That leaves the future of obtaining these pets associated with the achievements uncertain. There is a section in the achievement screen for "Pet Battles" but it's too soon to tell exactly what will happen. If you are close to finishing one of the achievements and getting one of the 5 pets, may be worth trying to finish just in case!

In my opinion they should have kept Companion pets and Battle pets separate.

Getting 100+ Companion pets was pretty hard.
