In the new Warfront, the Altar of Storms now gives you 4 choices, either to buff yourself, or hop in one of three "vehicles" which are the 3 needed for this achieve. Get the Altar of Storms built and then hope you get chosen for a buff. I had to do the Warfront 3 times, got one each time. Once in the vehicle you get 10 minutes, but can leave by right clicking your buff, without it affecting the achievement. Happy hunting.

To embody yourself you need to go to the Alterer of Storms npc called Mizzyk inside Darkshores Bashal'Aran town (second encampment).

In Abomination form I was able to tank Maiev for the duration of the final fight. I'm a blood DK so this might have had something to do with it (threat generation? mitigation?) but at least the form proved to be very durable.

The best pointers I'd give for this, having received two of these Essence of Storms in the same warfront twice, is to be as active as possible on all objectives.

I received my first just as we broke past Ashwood Depot and pressed on towards Lor'danel Landing. Shortly after I returned to the fight in my Abomination, I received the second. I was unable to see if a third was possible, as we finished off the commander.

Second warfront I received one after we captured the mine and the first three camps, again focusing purely on doing as much damage on every wave as possible. And I received a second as we dropped the two Ancient Protectors at Lor'danel Landing. Again, I was unable to see a third, as we finished the warfront shortly after.

If you receive a second, or even a third, you can use the sixth (6) ability Return to Bashal'Aran to quickly pick-up a new hero.

Can confirm that from killing the Rare crap to the left of Ashwood Depot (Glimmerspine), i received an Essence of Storms.

I got Deforester after 18 runs, Essence of Storms is totally random to get, I was top on damage meters,killed rares,taking bases and I did my best on all runs.

Edit: If you get Essence of Storms early you should use Embody Hero: AzerMEK Prototype first and do a ton of damage and I think you will have a higer chance getting another Essence of Storms

Got this today, have some tips:
1) Kill night elf themed mobs - ignore rares and forest creatures. Killing rares for 10+ runs got me nothing, switched to night elf themed mobs and got 3 essences in 2 runs.
2) Get the AzerMEK prototype first as this vehicle excels at killing mobs, which helps you get another essence.
3) A good farm spot is south of Bashal'aran, south-west of the mine. There are a bunch of night elf sentinels in a prison camp area, far off the beaten path of the scenario so no one will be around to compete for kills. I got my last essence in 2 minutes of farming here.

Did this achievement in 2 last games (previous 3 I did different strategy with no luck). And can share my receipt of getting "Essence of Storms".
First of all - I dont think rares / bosses and other crap rly mean anything. Yes you can get buff from them by accident. But In my vision best way to do it is next 2 steps:
1) w8 when altar of storm will be completed. Before that you can do NOTHING.
2) when It completed you have to make a lot of killing blows of any type of creatures. So better choose packs with 10+ elves that spawn from base. Usually they have around 60k hp and one "fat". But you mustnt rly care about fat - just kill all "thin" as fast as you can. Better if you do this in 3 secs. Pretty ez with good gear. And go for next pack. Btw not all of them shown on map! So just camp "left" road (that close to water).

Following this way (kill as much as possible in 1 min) I got 2 essence in 2 games in 1st min after altar was completed. When you get ur monster from temple, better dispawn him imidiatly and run to next pack. I did this in 2nd game. Dispawned "ghost" (her damage is rly low. Probably because this is support unit. But who reads manuals? >.<) and run to my lovely shore described above. Ppl usually avoid this area so you can kill elves w/o "helping" of other ppl. Here I killed another 2 packs. When I w8ed 3d one I decided to kill some time and some deers as well. And got buff from first deer. So I can say next:
1) mass kiling blows most likely affect on process to become choosen
2) doesnt rly matter which npc do you kill. Most likely only counter mean. So choose targets with low hp.

In previous games I killed 2-3 rares every game. Did a tons of dps to fat mobs (who had 1000k+ hp), captured 4+ flags and had no luck. Also I tryed tact to kill elves at south. With same result. But when I started to do many killing blows this achieve become ends pretty quick for me. Maybe that was just random or "luck". I have no idea. I just share my experience and my vision of this situation.

Just got an essence after killing an angry treant that spawned, after I cut down a tree ... pretty much random I would say.

Edit: Getting an essence is most definately tied to killing blows. Did a few more warfronts and went out killhunting on normal mobs. Pretty quickly got an essence, choose the AzerMEK Prototype and just went ham on normal mobs. Pretty quickly a second essence dropped.

TL, DR: Killing blow on mobs gets you Essence of Storms ... happy killhunting

Pretty easy achievement. Here's how to do it:

Kill every single thing, that means AOE and tagging mobs all around you. If you see a rare go and kill it. Kill as much as you can and you will get the item. I managed to get 2 of them in a single game because when I used the first one I continued to kill everything else (I was in a mecha). Then i removed the mecha and used the essence for the last one I needed.

The thing that helps the most is that 40% buff that you can buy with resources.

Im pretty sure I chose the abonimation first, then currently I got the banshee and bot in same run, could it be a possible bug that the achivment is bugged? or am I imagining things? anyone else?
I was so sure I had the abonimation already.

There was ambiguity on this page, so just wanted to say this is NOT an "item" you loot from mobs. I killed a bunch of mobs and couldn't loot anything, then eventually the Essence showed up on my loot chat box. It's not an inventory item either.

Edit: it is defined as currency, just to make that even more clear.

I did it in two battle, ofc you need three things to make this easy for you:

1. Lazy group (which you can do all things easily).
2. Complete Altar of Storms (don't waste your time mass killing until it's completed).
3. Kill much as you can fast as you can (kill everything).

Note: you need all killing blows (alone), once Altar of Storms chosen you, a light sentence will pop in your chat & Essence of Storms.

Just for those who may not realise what this looks like - it apprears as a blue glow around the edge of your screen and there is a comment in your chat log to go back to the Altar of Storms

A perfect example of terrible achievement design. BFA definitely added the most rng achievements that are near impossible if others in the same group are also going for it.

For anyone going after this achievement late in the expac, I can confirm that the advice here worked:

-immediately after establishing your base, get to accessing iron and wood production. Use your resources to build the Alter of Storms as quickly as possible.
-Once it's built, use 40 resources at the Alter to get the damage buff and stack it 4x.
-After you have the buff, seek and destroy alliance patrols. Focus fire on the non-elites to burn them fast and raise your chances of getting the killing blow, lest one of your teammates show up and take it from you.
-Once your team starts assaulting Lor'danel, there will be a pack of Druids of the Claw who spawn periodically and swoop over toward the giant guardians to assist them. I don't have the ability to get coords as I write this, but if you run past the treant guardians, toward the flag, but stop halfway between the trees and the flag and turn to your right, you can see the DOTCs spawn across the water. There are several that spawn at a time (6-8 roughly) but they are low health and don't hit hard. It's also a bit of an out of the way area for the main fighting, so it's unlikely anyone will join to "help" you.

Head to this spot (and if anyone can post coords, that would be helpful) and plant yourself here. Farm the druids and you should have your essence in no time!
