When up close, and presumably when captured, these tiny elementals have a constant 'babbling brook' sound. I can see it potentially getting on some people's nerves, while others (like me) find it incredibly soothing. This could be a favorite!

When clicked, they have a soft rushing, watery growling sound, completely unlike the usual aggro sound of water elementals.

These guys are level 22 battle pets, and they have two other critters with them.

The rare ones will have around 1375 hp.

Water Waveling are also very good for grinding out rare versions of Huge Toad and Arctic Hare and Snake because they're very close together and the respawn is super quick.

Start a battle and Forfeit the battle if a rare version of one of them didn't join the fight.

Captured tonite: battle HP1062 was uncommon, 1095 became rare 1205HP 221/221

at lvl 25 he was used well to take on some of the cata pet battle master and some of the pand pet BM's (in a team with Scourge Whelpling and Clockwork Gnome)

Although the Frost Shock ability says it "Chills the target", it does not actually apply the Chilled debuff, so it will not increase the damage of Ice Lance.

These can be found in the Drak'Sotra Fields waterpools just northeast of Rageclaw lake in Zul'Drak.

These guys are a necessity against most high level pandaren masters, notably Pandaren Spirit Tamers.

To beat those masters, you need strong aquatic attacks, but the master's pets have attacks that can nuke your aquatic pets. One option are Snails, like Rhapana Whelk, which have a strong aquatic attack and themselves are critters.

Wavelings are also good, because they are elementals but have two strong aquatic attacks. Additionally, they will down-level when captured at worst to 20, so leveling them won't take much effort.

I have a rotation I thought I would share, it works great on pet trainers with Elemental and Mechanical pets. I use it for every battle with the Pandaren Spirit Tamers.

Geyser is the first attack I use. When it goes off, his pet will be stunned and he will just switch it out.

So after you use Geyser, use Water Jet one time.

Next, use Frost Nova. It will prevent him from switching pets during battle for two rounds, long enough for Geyser to go off (leaving him stunned). Nuke him with Water Jet until everything is off cool down, and do it all over again.

If you do not get that Frost Nova off, he will just switch his pet out once Geyser goes off (unless Geyser misses).

This works great and it will annihilate Elemental and Mechanical pets!

To sum it up: Geyser, Water Jet, Frost Nova, Water Jet until everything is off cool down.
Rinse and repeat.

Why is it weak against water xD does it get part of it's body washed away? Either way I wanted it. took a while to get a rare one. I think about an hour x.x That's just me though

I want... no... I NEED this for my Frost Mage. Can this be caged and sold in the AH? Asking to see if I can find it there since I don't do pet battles.

I've checked the area of the Water Waveling for a rare for 2 days, I checked every single one of the damn things and there was no rare. All greys or greens. Does a damn rare spawn?

I saw these on my way to check the Unborn Val'kyr spawn and thought, "An Elemental pet with Aquatic attacks? That's perfect! I've needed one of those many times."

Since I began grinding these I've leveled 10 pets to 25 and captured rares of every secondary pet that comes with these without once running into a rare Waveling.

If you're intent on a rare Waveling of your own, beware, the comments on scarcity are terrifyingly accurate.

Edit: 2 more maxed pets later, finally met a rare, only to lose the fight by a single turn after multiple improbable misses and a few crits. I'm convinced developer malice is at play here.

Yes! There is a rare! I battled all the Water Wavelings in four ponds before I finally found one, outside of the pond! (near a band of trolls) As others pointed out, you will find rare Arctic Hare, Snake and Huge Toad as well (I upgraded my Arctic Hare and Huge Toad from common and lower level rare). Best part, I dinged while I was at it. My Water Waveling was 1315, started out at lvl 23, went down to lvl 21 after capture. Have faith!

Can't understand why many think getting rares isn't possible. Pretty much all pets that can be tamed have a rare version. It took me 5 pet battles to get my rare water waveling. Ofcourse you could use the upgrade stone if you can't wait to grind a bit. Unpatient people "sigh".

For anyone else stuck grinding these for the (mythical, coveted) rare, try a Moonshell Crab (2/1/1). Water Jet mows down the trashy failure wavelings. Shell Shield & Renewing Mists give you absolutely bonkers longevity and recovery– you will never be threatened & don't need to bother with team heals/revives unless you want to.

My P/P rare fresh off of Shadowmoon Valley's beaches soloed the wavelings & co from the get-go without swaps or team healing, so if you'd like to level your crab this way you'll have no problems getting it to 25. Or, if you just need to bonk the trash waveling and retreat, you'll have plenty of healing to keep going on and on and on and on.

Am I the only one who has a Water Waveling that identifies as a sheep?

In both the pet window and when summoned, this pet appears as a dark coloured sheep right now.

With the removal of the perma water elemental, this is now my new favourite pet on my Frost Mage. RIP Blubber :(
