i agree, and have known this for awhile. That blizzard doesnt seek to balance arena, or wow for that matter. They effectively aim to keep as many people happy as possible, and to shift which classes (colors) do better. Its also a good thing for spikes who like to break the good combos. I feel that, as a BM Hunter with Holy Pally, we arent overpowered, and that other classes have an amazing ability to run double DPS against us and still win. We are camped at 1550 (due to lack of games) and i find it enjoyable to take down rogue/priest or DK/healer combos. other people do it too. Last season, Destro Lock + Frost Mage was top 2v2. No other team like it emerged in our battlegroup. these were spikes that sought to "break" the rules of the ordinary and use their skill to coordinate destruction. They were the "deck" that countered DK/pally in that season, and thats how they won.
there might be a point in there somewhere, but i still agree with the guy.
great read, btw.

Very interesting indeed. I've played Magic the Gathering for quite some time (on a casual basis though), but it never occured to me how similar WoW and M:tG are. The article really has a good point about the way they "design" class imbalance into the game, and the various types of players (i'm pretty sure we all know a timmy, a spike, and a johnny).

How scary to consider that I am a lot 'spikish'.
He gets one thing wrong thou, class loyalty.
Hi, im spike, i care about my own character like i care about my own life,
Please do note that this idea of "dividing wow players in 3 classes" is a generalization, therefore, it is subject to a lot of possible cricticism. Generalizations are not a deductive thought. It will be quite possible to find players included in all the groups he created. Or in none. Or in parts of each. Do not take it too strictly - its just a way to simplify and illustrate his logic. Nothing more.

There's an analogy I can sink my teeth into. Though i'm not too sure I can agree with his portrayal of the Timmy; they aren't necessarily the noobs... just the people more concerned with 'fun' than with winning, though they may be perfectly competent. Those are the type of people that BG's and WG are designed for.
And Spikes can be loyal when allowed; sometimes in Magic decks survive through a set rotating and thrive in the next competitive season. I know i've been using the same deck for the past 2 seasons...
Besides, rerolling is annoying. But if they have the ability to reroll, level, L2p, and gear another class in a decent amount of time, more power to the spikes.
Johnny for life, though. I think they made Dalaran a floating city just to minimize shenanigans. D=
