These scrubs tanked Patchwerk with a warlock.
I say scrubs in a good way... I think.

We actually generate alot of threat (Soulshatter is here for a reason). Imagine getting threat ON PURPOSE. After tanking Illi and Leothoras, I myself was interested in warlock tanking...
Here is a possible tanking build:
0/33/38
Stack enough +Stam and +Resilience gems, and you have the perfect "absorption" tank (at least for heroics). Think about it this way: Your voidwalker automatically takes 20% of the damage you would. Because he is a voidwalker, you are also taking 10% less physical damage. Add in Demonic Resil (-3% chance to be critically hit).
Now for heals; pretty simple actually. A Paladin with Beacon of light is ideal (place beacon on Voidy, spam FoL on warlock).
As for threat, just spam searing pain! The thing crits like a beast, and has such a fast cast time you can get TONS of those things off. Searing Pain also generates 2 points of threat per point of damage, thus generating TONS of threat. Throw up some instant DoTs, get off an Immo (if you want)... When backlash procs (25% chance on hit every 8 seconds), insta-incinerate. Soul Leech will help with threat as well (restoring health, procs off of SP) generating 1.5 points of threat per point of healing done.
IMO we have alot of things for us... Its just not a "popular" thing to do. It would also be a "difficult" or "expensive" thing to do; in order to get enough +stam to survive we would have to be in full PvP gear gemmed 100% with Stamina.

Why so serious? For those who are geared, bored and rich it can be a fun undertaking. All you need is a couple of friends willing to support your "stupid" idea. Seriously, way to be open minded and intuitive. Sometimes people like to try new things, ya know?
But hey, we all know that int3rn3ts are serious business. Don't even try it or the all other kids will make fun of you, and we wouldn't want that would we?

I disagree with many people because many people are idiots.
As for warlock tanking, yes its not normal, convenient or easy. It wasn't intended either... But that doesn't mean that someone who wants to do it (and has the gold, time and friends) can't do it. Stupid != Out of the ordinary... Saying it would be odd is fine, however by saying something is "stupid" you are condemning it. If thats how you feel, stupid is not the word you are looking for... In my opinion (and what I thought was the opinion of others) "stupid" is a rather strong word... It does not equal silly, and it does not equal fun, it implies utter retardation and futility.
The dictionary agrees with me here
(check definition #3):
lacking intelligence or reason
Its not "smart", no, however not being smart does not imply stupidity. Having a cloth class tank is most definitely not convenient or efficient. It can however be great fun if that's what you are into...
Fingulfin, it seems like all you do is try to pick fights by disagreeing with everything and putting words in other's mouths.
I resent that. I was being 100% positive in this topic before you came in and called some fun theorycrafting "stupid". You brought the negativity, and you picked the fight. Hypocrisy FTW eh?

as a tank i raise my defence so that i can't get critted. i need ~690 defence rating to do this.
i raise my avoidance so that less hits actually land.
after i've got as much of this stuff as possible my last resort is to raise my effective health by getting as much stamina and armour as possible, giving the healers the best chance they can to heal before i go down.
if a warlock wanted to tank they could stack resilience to lower the crit chance. it would take around 500 res to become crit immune. they can't raise their avoidance so they will be taking lots of hits. they wear cloth so they can't mitigate through gear, only talents.
...all that's left is to try and get such a huge health pool that you can take a couple of hits in a row without going down and get enough healing power to keep you up.
for a warlock to try and tank
is
stupid. if any warlock says "i want to tank" just /point and /laugh and walk away. however, if your healers say "we're totally OP, let's see if we could even heal a warlock" then great, give it a go.
what i'm saying is, be in not doubt that the challenge in "warlock tanking" is entirely down the the healers. all the lock does is get a good pvp set and spam searing pain. also, in the case of tanking patchy, you need dps that are good enough to take him down in the timer even when there's 4 healers in a 10man.

The problem with this is a large portion of a 'lock's DPS is down to spellpower, if you gear/gem/enchant for stam then your threat, even with a 2x modifier from Searing Pain, won't be high enough to hold aggro.

I don't think threat is an issue; in full ungemmed, un enchanted PvP gear I was able to pull aggro off of our tank in VH yesterday by SP spamming (purely for experimental purposes). As long as you don't invest in Destructive Reach, your threat should be fine... I think. Needs more testing.
Also, don't forget about Enchants! You can enchant your gloves to cause 12% more threat (I think it was 12%... I could EASILY be wrong though), and there are TONS of stamina and defense enchants. All in all, I think it would actually be rather easy to hit the defense cap...

your tank is awful. in full dps gear (this was a while ago before i raided much, i'd guess my unbuffed SP was at about 1600) i couldn't pull agro off our equally geared tank on a single target pull, spamming SP.
he was way ahead of me.

it's 2%
threat is a big issue.
the defence cap requires 690 defence rating so don't be so foolish as to start talking about def caps in this discussion. if a lock wanted to tank they would have to become crit immune through resilience not defence.
their avoidance would be next to nothing. their effective health would be lower than a fury warrior.
as i said, lock tanking is a healer challenge not a lock thing.

I meant resilience =P I think I said that earlier, but I can't remember. At any rate, we wouldn't need a full 690 anyway, due to Demonic Resil.
As for being a healer challenge... BoL on Voidy, FoL spam on warlock... It doesn't really seem that difficult.
I really don't know why you people are so adverse to the idea, I think the video proves that it can and has been done... No, its not something to be taken seriously, but is a fun thing to think about. If you don't want to help theorycraft on the warlocks part, why are you still posting here?

lol.
i have a tank and a healer and you're undervaluing both.
i think it's a very interesting experiment for a bored guild i just think that your posts are (in most cases) incredibly ignorant and miss the point at every available opportunity.

I meant Uncrittable via resil >.< I said so in an earlier post, and its early in the monring (head is still fuzzy). If you really need me to, I can edit my post.
