- Nilon sat in silence, his hands tied together with rope from the ship’s rigging. The Naga had completed their search of the
Tiderunner and had found a fortune in gold and gems – clearly, ‘good ole’ Captain Rocksalt was more then just the captain of a passenger ship. Lady Murkdweller had excused herself from the task of flirting with Nilon – much to the Blood Elf’s relief – to oversee the dividing of the treasure.
- Nilon looked around; Jason was peeking out from his hiding spot. Nilon motioned for him to stay down and the Warrior sunk back behind the boxes. If Nilon could just get to his sword they may have a chance at defeating the Naga, but that was in his cabin, and the entrance to that was on the other side of the ship. There was no way for either him or Jason to get there without being spotted. But, the Naga hadn’t found Celen, and now she was their only hope.
- Nilon glanced over to the doorway and saw Celen hiding in the shadows. She held her mage staff in her hands, which glowed with Arcane magic – most likely a cloaking spell to keep her hidden from the Naga. She mouthed words to him:
What happened?
-
My sword, he mouthed back,
in my cabin, get it, it’s our only chance.
- Celen nodded and then slipped back into the ship. Nilon looked back at the Naga. They were still passing out the treasure, but the pile was considerably smaller now. Lady Murkdweller turned her back on the others and slithered over to Nilon. She was now wearing several of the rings from the pile along with most of the necklaces.
- “What do you think, handsome?” she asked Nilon. “Do these make me look like a queen?”
- “Only the queen you truly are, my dear,” Nilon said back, trying to distract Murkdweller from the fact that he was constantly glancing back to the doorway.
- “Mmmm, someone’s become a bit more talkative,” she said, wrapping her coils around the Paladin. “I like it.”
- “As I would have hoped, my lovely pearl, for truly nothing else can rival you in beauty, not even the majestic sea itself.”
- Murkdweller leaned in closer to Nilon. “Go on,” she said.
- “Ah, but where to begin? Your lovely golden scales, your eyes like polished sapphires, all these things about you are truly perfection.”
- Murkdweller sighed, her head resting on Nilon’s shoulder. “I don’t care whether or not Lord Scalebender allows it,” she said. “You’re a keeper.”
- “I have one last thing to say, my love,” Nilon said.
- Murkdweller looked up into his eyes, “Yes?”
- Celen reappeared at the doorway with Nilon’s sheathed sword. “Get away from me, you vile, smelly old sea hag!” Nilon jumped to his feet, knocking Murkdweller off him and onto the ground as he did. “Jason! Now!” The Warrior leaped out from behind the crates and charged at the Naga, yelling a string of unrepeatable phrases as he barreled into the snake-people.
- Nilon ran for the doorway where Celen stood, and got there just as the High Elf unsheathed his sword.
- “About time you showed up,” Nilon said, using the sword’s blade to cut the ropes the Naga had put on him.
- “Hey!” Celen replied. “At least I was here to save your Demon-ridden self!”
- Nilon made no reply to Celen’s last comment. He took his sword from the High Elf and charged the Naga that Jason was fighting. With a sweeping slash he rent a deep gash into the Naga’s abdomen, the sharpened blade easily cutting through the hardened scales.
- “Good to see you got your sword back,” Jason said. “Not that I couldn’t handle these guys on my own.” Jason parried an axe aimed for his head and then rammed his shield into the Naga’s snout.
- “I’m sure,” Nilon replied then spun around; dodging one of the Naga Male’s enraged attacks.
- “Dorei rekt!” it hissed at the Blood Elf in its native tongue. Nilon outstretched his arm, and holy fire burst from his open palm. The fire engulfed the Naga’s face, burning thorough his scales and igniting the tissues underneath. The creature clawed at his face, leaving deep gashes in it as the tried to put the holy flames out, and finally dove back into the ocean.
- Nilon grinned then caught whiff of a sent in the air. What was that smell? It wasn’t the sea or the serpents, it was –
- Magic!
- But not just any magic,
powerful magic, too powerful for it to be the High Elf. But hen who – No! Nilon turned around, Lady Murkdweller and the Naga Spellcasters were channeling their powers into a single pall of energy, but why?
- “You surface dwellers think you’re so smart,” Murkdweller hissed. “But we’re not stupid either. So let’s see just how well you can swim.” She eyed Nilon, “see you soon, handsome.”
- “Into the water! Now!” Nilon yelled, and ran for the side of the ship. He jumped the railing and dove into the ocean.
- The world went white.
