Quest Helper
Altoholic <-- If you have alts, you need this, it's that simple
Auctioneer Advanced Suite
Gatherer
X-Perl (I'll probably switch to Pitbull when I take the time to learn it)
Recipe Book / Recipe Radar / Ackis Recipe List (for the crafters)
SellJunk (one-click selling of all junk items)
Necrosis LdC (Warlocks only)
DoubleWide (it's old, but it still works!)
LightHeaded (easier than alt-tabbing to Wowhead)

--Questing Mod--
I would suggest getting Cabonite Quest. It's a better questing addon and also is much lighter on your processor.
--Unit Frames--
If you dont' mind the default portraits, player, target, party frames, ect. then I would suggest getting Pitbull. It's a bit weird at first but you can do so much with it. Xperl is also nice, seems a bit chunky for me though.
--Action Bars--
Personally, I like to go as light on my computer as i can while using questing mods so I use the default spell bars. If you want to move them around, resize them, ect. then get either Bartender4 or Dominos. You can move and resize your action bars so you have less / more bars showing, tailoring to what you need.
--World Map--
If your using Carbonite Quest, don't worry about this one, they customize your map for you. If you are not, Cartographer is a very nice mod. It lets you resize your world map as well as the transparency of it.
--Casting Bar--
At least get one for so you can see your target's casting bar if you don't majorly cast much. Quartz is the one to get, it's customizable to where you can change the texture, font, width and height. I love this casting bar to death.
Thos are pretty much all the basic ones you would need / want for now. If you have anything else that you might want or need, I'll see what I think of.
Hope this helped you out man.

I would like to chime in a nod to Carbonite Quest, (available from wow.curse.com or a paid version at their own website, which is carbonite.org i believe, but I'm not sure of the URL so don't quote me)
It is sort of like QuestHelper and Cartographer built in one - you can see all the areas of the game (even if you haven't been there yet!) and it provides co-ordinates, and it drops spots on your map for quests. Like all quest-assisting add-ons (I'm looking at YOU, QuestHelper) it has its little bugs and glitches (for instance, telling you you can acquire an Overcharged Capacitor in every area you go to) but for the most part its spot-on. Easily my favorite add-on.
Auctioneer is also wonderful if you want to know whether or not something is worth farming to sell, or just to compare prices... your auction house window will have a 'scan' button, and after a long scanning, it will be able to provide accurate averages on what things cost... and it comes packaged with enchantrix, which is nice if you have enchanters, because it tells you precisely what your item can be disenchanted into (by percentages). It is a little memory-heavy, however, and as I said you must frequently scan so its truly accurate (and you'll still want to sort by % to see who's selling for the lowest!)
Lastly, for raids and dungeons, everybody and their mother (literally, someone AND their mom told me) that I must have a threat meter add-on. The most popular one is Omen.

Cartographer and (I think) Carbonite do this, but TBH since achievements arrived I've turned that feature off so I can see which areas I haven't explored yet.

Because Shift+ B was SOOOOOO hard
It's more the way the standard interface sploshes your inventory across the lower right corner of the screen. I like having it all in a nice, neat, movable rectangle.
I like ArkInventory and its ability to sort your bagspace into custom categories, but it does take a little getting used to.
