Actually treants are not junk. Launch them on healers and they get good healing spell interrupts. Launch them on priests, get them to burn their scream. Launch them on mages, get them to burn their frost nova. Launch them on paladins you get early bubble burb. Basically trees I have noticed force people to burn cooldowns because they do not usually expect them. However, as soon as I stop doing PVP with my druid I plan on ditching trees otherwise they are a liability in PVE since you cannot control them.

In pve the Teant's main use while levelling is to tackle 2-on-1 and 3-on-1 situations... especially in cave quests where you don't have roots. They're a pretty decent DoT too, their scaling is better than many other spells and so they become very efficient damage. So, nice for PvE but not essential. In PvP, as Viva said, they're very good against non-mage casters, often panicking people and at least forcing them to waste time on them, which is a win since they're instant cast and don't cost much mana... mages will clear them fast with AE though.
Nature's Swiftness well, it's certainly going to help your ability to main-heal in PvE, but solo'ing it's not as useful as the treants, because you loose more total casting time compared to getting the treants to OT for you. PvP Nature's Swiftness has the edge tho, imho, mainly because it's a great "team" power.
If you're at 70 or do mostly pvp, I'd say NS is better if you've already got 20 pts in Resto, otherwise stick with the treants ;)
