I am not sure what you are seeking by creating this thread, but I'll throw out some specs for you here:
There are some flaws with both specs, you spec your pet into Phoenix Heart and into Great Stamina which is not necessary with 2/2 in Bloodthirsty you might even go 1/2 Bloodthirsty just to get Charge or Boar's Speed.
All valid points beside the last one. Boars speed is unecesary talent for BM hunter.
I am not sure if there is a need to go 3/3 in Cobra Strikes. If you feel like it is necessary you should take 1 point out of Mend Pet. Also the points in mend pet can be put into Invigoration if there is a lack of Mana-regen in the raid/group.
3/3 Cobra is absolutely mandatory.
Invigoration is suck talent.
Your viper is 5 times as powerfull as other hunters.
1. You got aspect mastery
2. your pet deals large amount of your damage so turning viper on wont drop your dps by half.
3. you shoot faster > you regen faster.
Also, after the changes to BW talent Survival Instincts is no longer as great. 5/5 Mortal shots are way better.
Spirit beast is far from optimal raiding pet. Its damage will be lower than Devilsaurs.

I am are looking for a spec that will help the hunter and pet stay alive until the end of the boss fight.
Not looking for top dps spec. Top DPS spec is usually how much burst damage can you do before you die. I am looking for a spec that will give the best damage output over the entire fight and that will still allow you to live until the boss is down.

I still need time to weigh out the pros and cons. The counter points and arguments provided by everyone is what I was looking for when I started this post.
There are 2 arguments I am considering:
>>2 points in Revive Pet in the Beast Mastery tree versus the 1 point in Heart of the Pheonix.
My thinking was that the 2 points could be used in a dps increasing talents. There aren't anymore at the lower levels of the tree. I put them into more stamina to increase survivability
>>1 or 2 points in Mend Pet in the Beast Mastery tree versus no points.
I would like to know which boss fights poison you and stuff.
Spirit beast is far from optimal raiding pet. Its damage will be lower than Devilsaurs.
Devilsaurs do have better spreadsheet DPS performance but this thread is about raiding with a Spirit Beast not a Devilsaur.

You are so wrong about this... "Top DPS Spec is usually how much burst damage you can do before you die"
Get recount or some add on that will show you how much your statement makes no sense. I can raid as MM or SRv, top the CHARTS in overall damage and have DPS in the top 3. You need to take TOP dps and TOP damage with a grain of salt.
BM is not worth taking into a raid. Whats does BM bring to a raid? MAYBE 2500 DPS compared to a MM/SRV hunter puting out 5000 DPS *With identical gear*
And then damage.. I might be at 1 Mill when a BM would be at 400k. BM is not a raiding spec anymore.
Even change out the enchants/gems and swap out agility for AP and BM is not even close.

You *MUST* be a very good/skilled player to output a competitive DPS and do fine on raids (ICC is a pain). And if your pet dies it's not that good.

I can out DPS Survival hunters with similar gear but it depends on the fight. From my experience with Lick Your Wounds I never have to use Mend Pet. My pets health only drops about 10%. If the tank loses aggro, for whatever reason, and my pet dies I can use Heart of the Pheonix to instantly revive my pet. Both abilities don't cost me mana. It lets me save mana for my shots. Up keeping my DPS.
