Edge of ruin is better for Ret pally's as we dont need agility that much.
Not that we dont need it at all, just i wouldnt be sacraficing a shed load of strength for some agility.
Did you not notice the 'shed' load of AP.

They are the same DPS wise, and Marrowstrike is better for pvp.

Edit: With kings + divine strength added in, that 121 strength = 153 strength which then converts to 306 ap.
With a +20 str gem, you get about 50 ap from the gem alone in the marrowstrike +
116 ap from agi(with kings)
+ 154 ap stat = 320 ap. Not to mention the crit gain from agility...holy crap, I think it's better.
since when do we gain AP from agi?
Hunters, Shaman, Rogues, and Cat Form get 1 AP per Agi
Warriors, Paladins, Death Knights and Bear Form get 0 AP from Agi
Edge of Ruin, without a doubt, gives more AP to Warriors, Paladins, and Death Knights than Marrowstrike does.
The question is, how much crit do you have/need?

Arp is basically negligible, right? And crit is just 5 rating different.
Yes, who needs auto attack. Its only a small bit of overall damage anyway, right?

I have both weapons for my ret set, and yea the axe does have seemingly better stats. For me though the pretty looking polearm increases my dps by 200 over the axe. I lose about 100ap, but gain enough crit that it aparently doesn't matter. I have 30ish crit atm, I can't check exactly what it is.
I'm happy, because frankly Marrowstrike looks a hell of a lot cooler than Edge of Ruin!

1 STR gives you 2 AP baseline, multiplied by 1.15 from Divine Strength (Tier 1 Prot) giving us 2.3 AP per STR when specced.
Edge of Ruin AP = 306 __ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ = 306
Marrowstrike AP = 154 + 46 (+20 str socket) = 200
Edge of Ruin % Crit = 65 rating / 45.9 rating/% =1.35% crit
Marrowstrike % Crit = 57 raiting / 45.9 + 106 +10(kings) Agi / 52.08 points =3.32% crit
So there you go, thats the math, of AP and crit with the Kings buff on.
Now someone who knows ret paladins better than me, what would you rather have. 106 AP or 1.97 Crit?
Cheers,
Hat
Small edit for math....forgot my kings buff for the SRT in Edge of ruin

Edge of Ruin
+121 Strength (121 * 1.15 * 1.1 * 2 = 306 AP)
Equip: Improves critical strike rating by 62 (1.35% @ L80).
Equip: Increases your armor penetration rating by 76 (6.17% @ L80).
Marrowstrike
+106 Agility (106 * 1.1 / 52.08 = 2.24% crit)
Yellow Socket (20 * 1.15 * 1.1 * 2 = 51 AP)
Equip: Improves critical strike rating by 57 (1.24% @ L80).
Equip: Increases attack power by 154.
Equip: Increases your armor penetration rating by 60 (4.87% @ L80).
Net difference
Edge of Ruin
Marrowstrike
306 AP 205 AP
1.35% crit 3.48% crit
6.17% ArP 4.87% ArP
In terms of itemization, that 100 AP is worth 40 points.
That 2.13 crit is worth 98 points.
Marrowstrike is far better itemized.

We're not comparing gems, we're comparing weapons. It's already got str/crit on it, the rest is bonus.
You don't avoid it because it has one of the less desirable stats on it. Besides, both weapons have armor pen.
