(( This is my attempt at a darker story... No Scourge here... Just madness... Read if you dare... ))
-
They are coming for you...
- "No," Will said. This wasn't the first time he had heard this voice, just the first time he had heard it this strong. It rang inside his mind, telling him things. It put dark, evil ideas inside his mind. Thoughts that he never would of dreamed of having now ran rampant through his brain. And what was worse: he couldn't shut it out.
-
They have turned against you... now, take your revenge...
- "No!" The voice was always demanding things. It told him horrible things, gave him horrible thoughts. It had dove into the depths of his mind and brought his worst fears, the ones he had thought he'd buried under everything else, to the front of his mind. Sometimes it showed him images. Horrible, unbelievable pictures, both of truth and fiction. Past and future.
-
Kill them all... before they kill you...
- "Get out of my head!" he yelled and tried to run. But there was no where he could go to escape the voice.
-
There is no escape... not in this life... not in the next...
- "Leave my alone! Leave me alone!" he tried to fight back, but it was useless. It was like fighting a thousand orcs alone, he fought well and hard but it wasn't enough. Whatever was doing this to him would not relent it's assault.
-
Tell yourself again that these are not truly your friends...
- He ran up the stairs of the keep, pushing other soldiers out of his way as he did. He had to escape. If he ran long enough, then maybe he could outrun it.
-
There is nowhere for you to run...
- The voice wouldn't let him be! He hurried up into his room and locked the door. For a moment, the voice was quiet. But just as he breathed a sigh of relief did it return.
-
All that you know will fade...
- Something happened. His room began to change. Shadows moved without warning, things appeared in the corner of his eye but vanished when he tried to focus on them. Something dripped from above, landing on his shoulder. He wiped some onto his hand and then looked at it. His dark skin turned bleach white for a moment.
- It was
blood
.
- From above the red liquid fell in massive streams, quickly filling the room in a matter of seconds. He struggled with the locks on the door. He'd die in the substance that gave life if he couldn't make it out.
- Just when all seemed lost the door finally gave way and he fell out into the hallway. The blood was gone. But the voice wasn't.
-
Trust is your weakness...
- "Hey, Will, you alright buddy?" on of the soldiers had knelt down next to his friend. Will was about to reply but something happened. The soldier's face and body contorted, turning into a dark thing of shadows and evil. Will screamed and ran his sword through the creatures chest. Only when it fell to the ground, lifeless, did the creature revert to its original form.
- "Light," Will said. "What have I done?"
-
You will be alone in the end...
- The voice! It was doing this! He had to get away from it! He ran up the stairs. High and higher until he was at the top of the tower.
-
You are a pawn of forces unseen...
- The voice was closer now, Will heard it clearly. He turned around, ready to fight whatever it was that was doing this to him. Without warning he found himself in the middle of a cavern. A huge beast with far to many mouths toward above him.
- "
BOW DOWN BEFORE THE GOD OF DEATH
!" the creature demanded.
- Will was to terrified to speak. What kind of creature could fathom even this thing's existence? He took a step backwards.
- And was then falling.
...
- "Well?" the Captain asked. "How is he?"
- "Dead," the medic replied. "Died on impact."
- "Any idea why he might have jumped to his death like that?"
- "Not the slightest. Probably some kind of death wish."
- "Well, he killed one of my best soldiers, I suppose that its better this way, not allowing him to kill again."
- "I suppose," the medic replied, packing up his things. "But still. This man had a perfect record. Spotless. What could drive someone like him to do something like that?"
- The Captain shrugged and walked away. But as he did he could have sworn he heard someone whisper something to him.
-
It WAS your fault...

This could perhaps reveal the true darkness and fear that the Old Gods wanted to strike into the heart of mortals that dared defy them.
Good work so far.

Writer's Commentary:
- Wow, this was, by far, better responses then I had expected. Considering I had come up with the whole thing in a matter of minutes.
- Except for one -
There is nowhere for you to run
, I think - I used only quotes from Yogg-Saron's actual in-game whispers.
- Overall I'm pleased with how this turned out. Maybe I
will
write a sequal...

Very well done. I'm normally hesitant to read Lovecraftian fan-fiction (due to far too many people focusing on the monster, rather than the mind-breaking horror that are the Eldritch abominations), but I liked this one a lot. Psychological horror is infinitely better than gorefests.

True, although gorefest has its high points too, I suppose.

I never really liked gorefest movies/stories. It only ever caused repulsion in me. Now, non-gory torture can be exciting... hand/finger breaking, thermal pain, psychological torture, etc...
Oh damn, I just revealed part of how much of a sick bastard I am... >.>

Incorporate it into a female elf, and you've got some um... *ahem*
Potential!
