Wowhead Profiler Released!By Malgayne on 06/25/2009 at 11:33 AM PST
I know, I know—caps lock. But every now and then, an announcement is a big enough deal to be worth it. It's been over 2 years of work. It's been created, scrapped, and re-created six times, by 2 different developers. And now, just when it looked set to become the Duke Nukem Forever of Wowhead, the time has finally come. Ladies and gentlemen, the Wowhead Profiler is here. The Wowhead Profiler is a full-featured system that represents an entirely new phase in Wowhead's development. Using the Profiler, you can: Access all of your Armory information in an elegant, Wowhead-style tabbed interface. Do advanced, Wowhead-style filtered searches of Armory profiles. Check your gear score, and compare it to your friends. Do a background on a potential raid-mate, to find out how much raid experience they have. View your character in full, rotatable 3D, wearing your gear just as the listed in the Armory—or wearing any theoretical set of gear you can think of. Try on alternate sets of gear, and watch your stats update in real-time. Automatically search for the easiest upgrades for your character in any slot, using Wowhead's powerful weight scale system—and then further filter down the list using any criteria you like. Save a complete profile—any possible combination of race, class, level, and gear—to your user page, and use it for your own personal reference or link it to your friends. Save an up-to-date armory profile to your Characters list with the "Bookmark" button, or save a custom profile to your Profiles list with the "Save As" button. As you may expect, this is an entirely new project, and we're trying to do something that's never fully been done before—so there are bound to be bugs in the system. If you find any, please report them to us immediately via our contact email at feedback@wowhead.com, or via our forum post here. We're tremendously excited about this feature, not only for the things it does but for the things it will allow us to do in the future. We have tremendous plans to expand the Profiler's integration with the rest of the site. Just as a few examples: we want to add the ability to embed a 3D widget of your character on your own website, or to auto-generate forum sigs based on your profiles. We intend to add further integration with the item comparison, to allow you to automatically compare items in the database with the items on your profile of choice. We're going to add integration with our weight scale system, to let you see instantly on each item page whether the item is better or worse than what you currently have in slot. Just fill your character information out in the "Lookup" field to see your character! Go to town, guys. I hope you're as pleased with the results of our efforts as I am. :)
